Default Carr calling plays in first half? why?

Was this a Dan Reeves thing to see what we have and experimented.. I didn't get to see the game, but we put 24 points on the board in the first half with Carr calling the plays and second half he didn't call the plays (ala Houston chronicle http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3533916.html
now was that a suggestion from Dan also to see how our coaches adjust with the playcalling ..was this an evaluation of both coaches and Carr or was this Capers decision to let Carr do this.. i am just curious on why it took so long to evaluate

This was the first pass of the game that DC made that was beyond the LOS, 5 yards:
1-10-HOU37 (10:11) D.Carr pass to D.Morgan ran ob at HST 46 for 9 yards (D.Macklin). (4 yards after catch.)

Pretty sad when you have zero confidence in yourself and your line. Pretty sad when a team pays you 5.5 million dollars to do this. Pretty sad when fans say that Vince Young can't or is not ready to play in the NFL when you have a guy like this collecting a check.

But hey, maybe McNair offered DC some ice cream if they won.

Let's see, the team moves the ball up and down the field after that first drive with Carr calling the plays. Score a team record for points in a quarter. Second half, Pendry calls the plays....the offense boggs down. I think the problem of the offensive playing calling is what we have suspected all along; the playcalling by the coaches. This tells me David Carr has a good understanding of the offense IF the coaches give him freedom.

And Carr understood properly that our back up running back was a better option than his throwing downfield. I am all for signing Carr up as OC and getting rid of Pendry for the remaning of the year.

Carr certainly seems to understand his players better than Pendry. I asked this question yesterday and I'm going to try again. Since they did so well under Carr - why did Pendry take back the play calling during the second half? That makes absolutely no sense.:brickwall

To try and lose the game. It was getting away from them by half-time and they had to do something.. so they had the coaches make the calls and threw repeatedly to Bradford in an attempt but they couldn't control the clock and ran out of time..

Bad coaches don't know they're bad coaches maybe?

I think (100% Pure Opinion follows) Pendry came here to be our OC and it took him a year to gum up the works enough to get Palmer thrown under the bus. Now he must appear to be part of the solution to the mess Palmer supposedly caused.

In the immortal words of Spinal Tap lead singer David St. Hubbins "It's a very fine line between clever and stupid."

I do not think you are way off. If McNair truly has a Carr crush, lets sit Carr have him call the plays and let Ragone dink and dunk all day. Heck Ragone can only get this type of live game experience, in a dink and dunk offense, on the field or at a local coffee shop.

Whether you like Carr or don't (And I've thrown a few shots at him myself) you can't argue the fact that the first half was played with an extremely efficient offense.

[quote=jerekAs for Carr calling the plays, I say, it's about damned time. He even went deep a couple times, and while he didn't complete it, I like the philosophy. I still don't understand how, taking it back to our first W of the year against Cleveland when he hit Mathis on that deep ball ... it absolutely bamboozles me how we have run maybe five of those routes since then. It's not like Mathis still can't beat these DB's we go against..[/QUOTE]

Now, that is another question I've been asking after every game. Why the devil don't they let Mathis play anything besides punt/kickoff returns? Almost every week Capers says Mathis is practicing at WR and is doing well. But do we ever see Mathis in the lineup? Once, last week and then we get Bradford. Bradford, like Riley before him, needs to find a day job. I've come to the decision that the Capers/Pendry philosophy is really, "Don't do anything to win - just play not to lose by more than 10 points." It is like they are working against us.

I think my favorite part out of the whole game was us going for it on 4th down in the first drive. Granted, we didn't get it but I liked that call.

Agreed, but I would have liked it better if we had put in our 4th and 1 player package.

Not looking for a fight, but I thought it was a bad call. Our defense arguably opened the game with their best defesive series all year, two sacks, and we hand over the momentum to them back at midfield.

Notice how Carr threw screens only to AJ in the first half. Pendry called for screens to Bradford.. nuff said

Becuase that is about how many times this season Carr has had time to drop back and let a WR get down the field.

Carr managed the game to a victory, just like if he had led the team to a loss. You can't have it both ways. If Carr had not done a good job this game then wouldn't he be held accountable? Sure he would. You would have torched Carr for calling so many "running" plays or not throwing downfield. Way to play the fence. Fact still remains, a David Carr led offense scored many points and gave us a victory....that is of course if you want to give Carr all the blame all the time. But take a step back and notice that this is a team game with both running and passing and you need a QB to be in charge. Our defense needs to create turnovers and offense needs to not turnover the ball. The whole did played as a team yesterday.

I have commended him for managing the team. I just feel that is an indictment upon his own ability and the money we pay for it.
