How come football has never taken to the idea of having a 7'5 player. Think about it. You sign yao ming, and he only comes in on redzone situations. He runs his giant self into the end zone, raises his hands up, and you train your qb to lob it up there. Tell me how a 5'10 cb covers that. He would set the nfl record for touchdowns. any takers?

thats what im saying tho...he doesnt have to be strong or agile......all he has to be is tall, and can catch a softly thrown pass . besides.....one of these days he is gonna wake up and realize that he is soft.

I've thought about this long ago. It's one thing if a guy(Yao) was trained in basketball and only used to minimal contact in a sport. It would be another thing if Yao has played through football seasons and is used to being pounded. You don't just go out to the streets and find a giant to propose playing WR or TE for a football team.
<<EDIT>> Why is this in the draft section? |

no particular reason......but its Tgif, and danged if i dont think its 5 oclock somewheres...just trying to lighten the tension in this section with an irrelevant arguement...i suppose i could justify it by saying i think we should draft yao ming....

it's done pretty often, just not to the extreme you're looking at. the falcons' brian finneran (6'5") is used as a mismatch "lob" in the redzone against short corners. antonio gates (6'4" + hops) is also a good example although his lob catches appear all over the field. it would be easy to defend against though if you go to the extreme of yao because today's linemen are reaching 6'7"+ and are MUCH more athletic than yao could ever be ... he'd never get positioning.

1) Anyone that is 7'5" will make a whole lot more money in the NBA than the NFL.
2) People that are 7'5" generally are not very coordinated, and if a QB lobbed a ball up to him he is going get nailed and not come down with the ball and likely get injured on the play. That's assuming he can actually get off the line of scrimmage when he's jammed by the DB. |

Somebody would end up broken in half at about
knee level. The bigger they are the hard they fall.

my prediction is one day in our lifetime we will see a player like this. Every year players gets bigger, stronger, and faster. There will come a time where a absolute super freak will enter the leauge.

His names Kyle Ingrenhausen and he's 6'9'' and a WR for Purdue. In high school we actually got to scrimmage against him and he's a good athlete who plays basketball so he knows how to get the ball out of the air. Wether it'll work in the NFL or not, we'll find out soon enough.

again ... brian finneran for the falcons. a proven 6'5" "go up & get it" receiver in the redzone.
