You are the head coach for the rest of the year.
What players are you going to play the rest of the year to get a good look at, to see what they can do? My choices: Seth Wand ...IMHO the most abused player on this team! Pendry has some hidden agenda against him. He has looked good sometimes, not so good other times. You learn on the job in this business. Play him dammit. Vernand Morency....Why did we draft this guy if we aren't even going to give him a look? Tony Hollings....Not too impressive when he has played, but deserves a good look in a regular season game before we give up on him. Jerome Mathis...Is gaining valuable experience as a wide reciever while sitting the bench behind Bradford. :brickwall Dave Ragone....Carr is our starter. We need to see Ragone with the first team against another first team defense. What can he do? What do all these players have in common? Glad you asked. They are all at the mercy of our inept O line coach promoted to inept O coordinator. ![]() I believe in our players. Any talk of them throwing games is nauseating.

Not much to gain but pride, and a whole lot to loose if we keep playing the players we have been. Perhaps putting new people in real game scenarios
would give us a better idea what else to go after come Draft time. |

They can't do any worse that's for sure. It would help us a great deal going into the offseason to have some game tape of them.

I would like to see if Ragone can repeat his success he seemed to have in
Europe. Not for just a play or two but for an extended period of quarters if not games. We've seen what Banks can do under better conditions, lets see how the kid can do. Imagine a Ragone to Mathis touchdown toss. Probably would be some sparks where sparks are needed. Nothing implied by that either. |

I wouldn't mind seeing Ragone either IF and ONLY IF David Carr IS getting the bonus. Otehrwise, I think it's Carr who should be evaluated by letting him throw 25-30 times a game and see if he can get a rhythm going.
I would DEF like to see Morency and Mathis more. |

I believe we've seen enough of Carr to know he's a quality QB and could be better with a good OL. But I just don't see the need of risking injury with nothing to gain using the starters. It would be a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the rest of the squad for our future coach...err I mean consultant...
in real game situations. |

Fan of Morency and Mathis more, but Ragone and Wand can sit on the bench. Ragone is a NFLE MVP and likely the backup next year. Wand was a project that did not work. One they put him at LT instead of RT and he got used, then they did not try him at RG, the kid may end up having a long career, but it will be with another team.

The talk, looking forward, might be that. But the talk looking back from next season would more than likely be most favorable.

There should be more emphasis on a point of this thread and that is we need to develop players who can take over when injury occurs. Given where we are at in the season it would seem the latter priority should fall in place. This organization has done fairly well at times with its starters, but injuries have blunted the progress of the organization because we have not developed back up players. Our 2nd tier of players is basically nonexsistent. We have let a number of highly qualified players, it turns out, go probably because a lack of evalutation and development. This turns out to be one of the more noticeable weaknesses of this organization. Perhaps the achillies heel.

Any hint of playing the reserves in the remaining 3 games will only bring accusations that you're playing for the first pick.
I wonder how mad the players are with the fans these days with all the 'lose the game' talk. Enough to inspire them to ruin those fans' draft day maybe? |

You play the season with 52 guys. This season is a loss from a playoff standpoint, but not a loss to see what the players are worth. Moreover, quality depth is huge for any potential playoff team. We do not know what the true measurement of our depth is bacuse they cannot get on the field. For the future health of this team we need to put them in and get them quality minutes. If they do not perform then we are only reaffirming that they have no value to us.

The best arena for a players talents and short comings to come out in are in real game scenarios. What better time would you have, other than now, to evaluate and work on the 2nd and 3rd position players? Who cares what the rest of the teams say. We'll let know how it worked out next year when we're talking from a winning perspective.

Okay! Remember when Ragone played against Jville and Tampa? Well, this season's oline is worse than that.
Need I say more? |

How come David Carr doesn't get told to sit a few out and think about his game? I know why Brett Favre is going to start right up to the bitter end of the 2005 season but I wasn't aware that David Carr had built up that kind of clout in his four years here. The 49ers have played more than one QB this season. The Raiders have tried a change too. Chad Pennington was lost due to injury but the Jets have still made moves to try and make something happen. Not the Texans though. Never the Texans. It's really like nothing I've ever seen before. He was given the starting job from day one and to this very day the team will do nothing to push this man or challenge him. I'm not a Carr hater either. I admire his toughness and his physical tools. I think the biggest problems with Carr come from his head and I think some of that is due to the beating he has taken. I just don't see anything that makes me feel good about the way they have tried to "develop" this guy. He's going nowhere right now without some sort of guidence from his coaches and competition from his fellow players.

Like the idea of playing the reserves more CaC - good call with the last 3 games - Maybe not starting them - but givinf them minutes in second half for sure.
As for Carr - I'm certainly a Carr backer - but think the guy needs a break and get his total mental game together and come back fresh. I also think Ragone needs minutes to get a feel for his long term use and possible trade bait to another team looking for a good QB next year.
