I was just curious on everyones thoughts on how David Carr has done so far. I still believe that he is a franchise QB. It isn't easy to be thrown into a brand new franchise your rookie year and expect to take off.

true maturation of this truly gifted QB. With that being said, if nothing is done than the value of DC is wasted if we continue on our present course of playing around with getting the right personel for the OL. |

Agreed regarding the OL. However, the dink and dunk offense that we are running is not going to give us an accurate picture of what Carr has to offer long term. I would like to see some shotgun/2 minute run offense during the game to let him get the ball downfield. I have the sneaking suspicion that Reeves will "request" that Carr make more deep throws so he can asses his skills.

Carr is a prototype QB who is tough, with a big arm and can make all the throws. He also has a wooden style in the pocket and has a poor feel for the pass rush. He is a slow decision maker and tends to throw better when he is chunking the rock to someone standing still, sitting in a zone, or in the flat. I don't see that he is very accurate on passes other than hitches, come backs, slants and outs. Carr could be a late bloomer but with his lack of instinct and little to no innate feel for the game, I think his improvement over the next few years will not be big. I think he is a low level starter in the NFL but is no franchise QB.

Have you ever noticed that DC never looses his temper? With the hits he's
taken and the dropped passes my 4 year old could catch makes you wonder if his interaction with the other players has been reined in just like is passing skills. |

Vinny,
If you don't think that Reeves will have that kind of stroke by the end of this season, I think you are sorely mistaken. He is here to evaluate the team, which I think equates to more power than any of us realize...yet. |

Vinny,
Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part. I don't think he (Reeves) is really evaluating the coaching/GM positions because they are already cooked. I believe he is looking at various players (O-line/Carr/DD/entire defense sans Robinson) to evaluate their abilities and long-term value to this franchise. If that means requesting, via Casserly, to Capers that they want to see certain things...I think he would easily get that - especially if McNair has given him cart blanche. Regardless, I appreciate the good dialogue on this topic and hope we can find a way to right this ship - preferably without Reeves as the next HC. |

I think QB's are hard to gauge because they are a direct reflection of the talent around them...but that being said, the only way I think we could get a fair judgement on carr is to see someone else, any one else play with our current team...

Definitely regressed. I agree that the O-line needs to get the long overdue upgrades in the off season. Last season and as well as season 2 I was very excited about David Carr. This season has been disappointing. I hope he's able to shake getting sacked - that seems to be a phobia that has haunted him to the point of him sacking himself.
I HOPE THEY MAKE THE RIGHT MOVES IN THE OFFSEASON!!!!!

With the number of games that Carr has played, i believe he is what he is. he belongs the middle group QBs in the league and is not a difference maker, but is good enough if he has most of the parts in place. As for positive difference makers there are only a handful maybe around 5 and even by the most liberal judgement 8-10. the question is really where in that middle is he? He finished somewhere around 16 in passer rating and i think that is pretty accurate.
IMO, last year was reflective of what can be expected from Carr. At times, he is going to look the part of a really good player. Others he is going to seem to forget even the basics. The inconsistent play will vary to game to game; season to season. I never expected Carr to totally suck for an extended period, but only to tease fans on the upper end. Like QBs in this range, Plummer, Bledsoe, Collins, etc, if he has really good surroundings with a coach he understands what Carr's strengths and weaknesses are and do not ask too much of him, a team can be fine with him at QB. If a team depends on Carr to be a savior, then they are in trouble. |

To answer the original question, I haven't given up on him. I do think he should have been benched for Tony Banks and forced to compete for his starting job, but I think he has the skill and talent to achieve in this league. He just can't do it under this regime. |

David is great i think he should be the face of the franchise for years to come he is way ahead of all the young QB's in the league. i mean what more do you want from a QB he can read and pick apart every defense in this league. i can honestly say he never Lock on to his primary target. so in other words his progression has been good. |
