Trade back in pursuit of Brick (pick 4-5, get a high 3rd/low 2nd), Winston (pick 7-10, get high 2nd or a 1st next year), defensive stud like Hawk, Ngata or Williams for a 4-3 change (similar to Winston) or make a serious move back and get an extra first plus change targetting one of the other 3 OTs (McNeill, Justice, Scott).

There's some serious talent out there this year. It's almost like there's two 1st rounds. We can easily get "Top 15" talent in the late 1st/early second. Possible players falling might include TE Vernon Davis (pushed down by Lewis), LB Demico Ryans or Chad Greenway (pushed down by Hawk and Ahmad Brooks), one of the tackles I mentioned above MIGHT slip to the late first (since I mentioned FIVE of them), or even a DB prospect like Michael Huff or LaRon Landry.

Early second round prospects include anyone of the above plus a slew of Dline guys, OG Max Jean-Giles or TE Leonard Pope.

Pretty darn good selection this year. If you have to have a high draft pick sometime, it's the right year for it.

Another option as I see it is to let Carr test the market before he gets paid. The Texans could put a transition tag on him at the end of the season, which would give him the right to get a deal from one of the other 31 teams and bring it back to the Texans. Houston would have the right to match the deal and keep Carr or decide to move on in another direction.
I can't find anyone who evaluates talent to tell me this young quarterback could secure a deal that tops what the Texans have on the table with the option-bonus packages. It is possible the Texans are going to overpay to keep a talented young prospect who has been sacked too many times to count and is a risk for the big money. The lack of an extension to the collective bargaining agreement at this point might also mean no team is willing to drop a lot of guaranteed money on a QB from a 1-9 team.

I like this plan because the market will set the value on a player that no one is sure about after four years. If I'm wrong and another team offers a great deal, the Texans can match or walk away. Last year, the transition tag cap charge was $6.8 million, which the Texans could afford and would actually be less than the cap charge for 2006 in either the two- or three-year option plan.

Why keep paying Carr all that money? If some team offers him more than us, fine, you won't see me crying about it.

Letting Carr go and having to go bring in someone else at QB sets us back another 3-4 years.

HofH. Are you looking at the fact that Mario Williams could be a poor man's Ju. Peppers. I dont think McNeil falls to the second round now that he is getting some serious hype. He is a RT that grades out better than Jamal Brown so I doubt he makes it out of the first. Greg Blue is interesting, but I would like to hear your thoughts on the kid cause he has not impressed me in my limited views of him. McIntosh is solid and will be a steal in later rounds at least as good as Odell Thurman. I am not sold on needing to draft a TE until the second day. Jopporu has one more year, Rivers looks competent, Bruener can block. Plus Chris Baker and Teyo Johnson are FAs this year and could be brought in as receiving TE options. Teyo Johnson interest me alot since the guy has talent and looked good with the Raiders. He would also come cheap.

Did you forget that we're on track to go 1-15 this season? We're already set back!

I would like for someone here to justify to me why we should A) guarantee Carr all that money, and B) guarantee him a starting job without blaming his woes on the OL.

I find it hard to believe someone who keeps advocating the "smart thing" to do with trading the Reggie Bush pick back wants to lock Carr up for another 3 years and dump a ton of money in his lap when he hasn't done squat.

If either of those teams want to over pay for Carr's services, then let them.

I'm not saying we should cut Carr loose completely, I just want some competition (Jon Kitna) breathing down his neck at the very least.

Well we need to rethink our deals i think. I am taking SF out of my trading to #1 radar. I started thinking last night. They are doing kinda what we are doing cleaning house. To trade up will involve more players then picks. So i think we should shift our eyes to looking at NYJ, NO, GB... All those teams are top 5. We should bust out the draft chart and see what we can get. Then put some names to that list.

On the SA (Cowboy loving) sports radio station, they were discussing if the fans would be interested in the Cowboys giving all 7 of their picks to the Texans so they could draft Leinart. As Texans fans would that interest you?

I personally have mixed feelings. It would be a mid to low first rounder, but would give us at least two picks in every round.

Most of the time, I'd say it wouldn't happen, but Parcells does undervalue draft picks a lot and they just got a big rookie haul last year.

I'd consider it, but I'd try to bilk the 49ers into flipping picks first (assuming we had the #1 and they had the #2) for Reggie Bush. If the deal was done, I'd package the late 2nd and late 3rd to make it an early 2nd and get at some of what would be first round material last year.

I still think the 49ers will be major trading candidates because they just drafted Alex Smith and they literally have no offensive weapons to go with him, their RBs are terrible (Gore is ok as a backup I guess) and their WRs are terrible (Brandon Lloyd would make an ok #2 or #3 WR but no better). I think they would love to get Bush (I know he would like to play there) to build the rest of their offense around Bush and Smith. While that would cost a lot of money it would give them two good stars to build their team around for many years. I do agree with you about them rebuilding though and don't think we could take a ton of picks off of them, maybe grab this year and next years' 2nd rounders, or we could grab a player off their team in and get maybe their 3rd rounders for this and next year. Julian Peterson sounds like he's looking to get out of there and it sounds like they would be willing to trade him, plus he is the only player on their team I'd be interested in. We could quite possibly swap the top picks with them, pick up a 3rd rounder for this year and next year and add Julian Peterson, then trade down from there to the Jets, Cardinals, Ravens, Lions, or anyone else interested in drafting Leinart.

Right now it looks like Alex Smith isn't too great either. Granted, it still is his rookie year, but zero touchdowns and nine interceptions is not a very promising start. There apparently is also some questions being raised about the size of his hands and the lack of his ability to hold on to the ball. But I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Joel Klopfenstein? Are you kidding me? This guy is a decent pass catcher, but compared to the others, is unathletic and cant block to save his life!! Reminds me of Doug Jolley too much. Go with Tim Day, Leonard Pope, or Dominique Byrd. All 3 can be drafted in the 2nd - 3rd round of the draft and have alot of upside.

No offense sir, but to put in Option B is a joke. Anyone who knows football knows that any QB in this league (Tony DUngy spoke that Peyton Manning would not have success with this team) cannot survive or win wiht the O-line we have.
