with aj unable to consisantly catch a football i would have to say d.davis is our best offensive player. he's probably better than anyone on the defense except for robinson.
so to my point.. is the best way to start fixing this team is to replace your best player on offense and maybe 2cnd best player on the team. thats not the way i would go about getting better but i know some of you disagree.

I agree 100%. Davis is a player.. is he the best RB in the NFL? no.. is Bush the best RB in the NFL? no.
No matter how sure you may think you are about the abilities of Bush.. he is still a risk.. a 50/50 chance. And there is even less chance that he will be alot better than DD. We can get alot of value for that #1 pick... there are teams out there that NEED a good young prospect at RB like Bush.. we arent one of them. We dont need to take a chance to replace a player who is not a weakness. Trade down.. get a few more good picks.. grab us some Olinemen..a TE.. a CB. |

Our beat offensive player is a wide receiver who sadly can't call the plays that gets him 10-12 chances a game. DD may have been our best o player today, but his running performance for most of the year has left something to be desired.

Dre needs opportunities to catch the ball, and he gets the fewest looks of any premium receiver I know of in the league. It has been discussesd ad nauseum on this board why that is. I have just one question - if you had an average NFL team and could take one player from the Texan offense, would it be a) Dre b) DD c) other? |

Hate to say it, but it's true. AJ had some big drops early in the season, then got hurt, then has had some big drops since coming back--the by-his-lonesome drop in the end zone today was a catch that a Pro Bowler should make. Nice outing against the Rams, but the big picture just isn't as pretty this time around.
Doesn't matter, though. Not this year. He's still going to be the man around here for a long, long time. He'll be so much better in '06, when healthier and when put into an offensive scheme that (God willing) can use him to full advantage--plus, even a modest improvement on the O-line will let him run more productive routes. Hard to make a huge name for yourself as a WR when your QB has to release to SOMEWHERE after 2 seconds or risk getting killed....and when your QB tends to radar-lock onto that chosen receiver immediately after the snap. And maybe, just maybe, a legitimate other target could take a little more heat off him? Not a knock on Gaffney--more a prayer for a real TE. I continue to be baffled at how rarely we're seeing Derick Armstrong, though. Sure, he's dropped a couple too, but the dude really can make plays on 3rd down. |

One stat you need to know:
Since Dominak Davis has started for this team in 2003 against the Jets, he has counted for over 62% of this teams total offense. Case closed.

I'd go with Andre Johnson for a similar reason. While accounting for 62% of this teams offense is impressive one has to consider that since Domanick Davis as started for this team in 2003 against the Jets this team is 11-28. Since he accounted for the majority of the offense during that time I'd go with AJ instead of DD.

In terms of total ability and potential I'd go with Andre any day, but Davis has been a more consistent performer this year, although I blame much of that on the offensive play calling. I wish they'd start using Johnson as more of a star WR than as a diversion to get others open.
