Default Happening Again - This years Sean Taylor or Derrick Johnson - Reggie Bush

You all are going to be screaming again when we pass on Bush, and get picks instead of him. We passed on both Taylor (who only has 38 tackles this year) and Johnson (who ONLY has 1 sack this year). Is Bush a playmaker, yes. But he will NOT be on this team. We will trade down and pick up more picks to better stock the rest of the team since we have so many needs and depth. The only place we have depth is RB.

Our RB's arent that good, so that could be worked on, but I still think it was wrong to pass on DJ.

We didn't pass on Taylor. We just didn't trade up to get him. There is a big difference.

yeah people are gonna go crazy if we trade down and pass on Bush but they have to realize that the RB position is stable right now and as somebody stated before picking a great RB to replace a Good One is not good drafting at all..

We NEED more talent.. Bush can not turn this whole team around.. as much as I hate to say it but it's true..

Gotta agree with Jerek S. on this one. DJ would be an improvement over Greenwood or Wong in every way. Bush would be an improvement over Morency, Hollings, and Wells. But wait we have DD who put up 1776 tyds and 14 TDs in 15 games and is also a rookie of the year. Well I guess bush will do the same thing his first year in the league. Doubt it though.

Yup, there is going to be some MAJOR wailing and knashing of teeth when we trade down.

As someone pointed out, we have already spent a 2nd, 3rd, and two 4ths on RB's. That is basically one top 4 pick every year we have drafted.

That just seems to be the way things go. You can't please all of the people all of the time. The board always blows up with 'I Can't Believe They Passed On...Insert Name Here' posts after the draft. Generally things start getting back to normal around a week or so after the draft when cooler heads prevail.

that is true. I am astonished by all the office space avatar mods on this board. I still think passing on DJ was a bad move either way you slice it.

The Texans will find a way to grind out a couple of wins to drop in the sweepstakes. 3-13 will probably only get them a #3 pick. With their schedule a tie in record will set them back. It might come down to week 17 but the #1 is hardly set in stone. This is a five win team that choked against the Titans and Rams.

Yes every year there is usually a fan favorite pick and any pick can blow up in your face. Right now it does indeed look like we were fortunate to not have selected Sean Taylor but I don't say that because he only has 38 tackles this year. I say that because of his off the field behavior.

Derrick Johnson having only 1 sack this year isn't evidence that he wasn't a better pick than Travis Johnson. That's like saying that Travis Johnson was a bad pick because he only has 22 tackles instead of the 55 that Derrick Johnson has. It doesn't take into account their respective positions and what they're being asked to do. More than anything judging a pair of rookies is tough to do accurately until they've played a couple of years.

Depth at running back is two deep. Our starter can't stay healthy, can't get yards when we must control the ball and run out the clock, can't lay a block down when we're trying to throw the ball, and while elusive cannot hit another higher gear because frankly he doesn't have one.

His backup was left for dead and almost run out of town no more than two years ago (start of 2004) and if he hadn't learned how to contribute on special teams then he'd have already been sent packing.

HIS backup is Tony Hollings and that should tell you all about how good our #3 is.

You are forgetting Morency, Hollings is not our #3 back. Just thought I'd point that out.

You are correct. My entire "Our #3" portion of the previous post is withrawn.

Morency is merely an unknown at this time.

That is something that we should all consider. I for one have given very little time to thoughts of a draft where we don't pick first.

Ok, say for instance that the Texans have the #1 pick in the draft. I personally use that to draft Reggie Bush. That's just what I would do and if you don't agree with me then fine but that's what I would do. All of the talk I've generated about the draft has centered on whether or not we should take Reggie Bush with the first pick in the draft instead of trading down and I've come around to thinking that yes, we should take Reggie Bush when we have the chance.

What if we don't have the first pick in the draft. What if we have the second or third pick in the draft. What if it's San Francisco that picks first and they don't want Leinhart because they just drafted themselves a franchise QB in 2005? They're going to take the amazing running back and we're going to be doing what?

Probably trading down and depending on how good a deal we get to trade down and how far down we have to go we'll either be drafting a LT (not so far down) or we'll be drafting another position and the team will still be trying to convince us that Chester Pitts is our franchise LT (trading way down).

If that ends up being the case then I sure hope we get value for that kind of drop.

Ok, let me ask this.
Let say we are offered a 1st, and 2nd this year and a 1st next year, do you still take Bush if this years pick is 6-15 for the first rounder this year? The reason I ask this is because Bush is such a plus to people, this will be similiar to offers that will be on the table for the first pick (if we have it)

That is a huge spread in value. At 6 you would have to look at it long and hard. That is 3 picks in the top 38 of the draft with one in very rarified air--#6 is looking at AJ Hawk, Mathias Kiwanuka, Eric Winston, Jimmy Williams. One of those plus Darnell Bing and Leonard Pope in the 2nd sure would help the Texans out. At #15--no deal.

we need to stay in the top 9 of the draft, and to even go that low i would expect: 1st and second this year, 1st and 4th next year.

he really didnt have a "great" year at FSU, and wasnt even the best DT on his team, let alone the best player. I was against trading up, but when DJ fell we should have taken him.

Am I missing something? Sean Taylor was picked well before we were even on the clock. We passed on Taylor just like we passed on Demarcus Ware who was picked two picks ahead of this. You can make an argument for Derrick Johnson, but you can't really blame a team for not trading up and picking someone because you don't know what deals were offered and counter offered.
