See the field the same time Andre Johnson was on the field and what was the result of it if he did? I ask because the game was not on TV in Austin. Thanks for the update. I guess I will wait yet another week for my free Bengal Coffee.

thats what I was thinking when they ran that, i use it alot in madden and it works pretty well, but i bet it would work in a real game as well, seeing as he can out run almost everyone on the field

Nope, after AJ had the great first half, they were double teaming him to death. And guess what, our coaching staff
won't put a threat in with AJ such as Mathis or Armstrong. They insist on keeping Gaffney and Bradford in the offense.bobby 119C:brickwall |

I liked seeing Mathis on punts too. He barely fell out of bounds on that one PR.

See this is exactly why I feel that our coaches have to go. I mean here is a kid that is basically the only reason we won our only game. He has already caught a deep pass that resulted in a TD and yet he can't get on the field because they insist that Bradford is good. One time they made the excuse that it was because he didn't practice much during the week. How hard is it to ask a guy to run a deep route. Even if the play is not for him the team has to respect his big play potential. Also, what in the world is it going to do if we lose a game because we are trying to implement guys like Mathis so that they can get game time experience and we don't have to worrry about them during training camp or preseason?

Mathis is one of our few playmakers, and the coaches should get playmakers on the field. Mathis has made more plays in his 5-6 games this year than Bradford has in 4 years... at very least have the guy line up and run down field as a decoy... with his speed, he can take a safety and/or CB out of a play..

That's exactly what I am saying. Or vice versa with him and Andre. Let andre go deep and bring Mathis under. Hopefully this can be done next season and noone knows about it.

Stop making these threads! Mathis doesn't play offense because that would make him tired when playing special teams. Look at Dante Hall.

Mathis had lots of long returns in college as well as averaging 26.4 per reception as a receiver. We are constantly being told that he is a football player first and a track guy second. If they meant it, he'd play more. This coaching staff annoints guys as starters, no one has to earn it. That's why Bradford is still our #3. As for the Randy Moss comment, speed and height are pretty much all that makes him. He admittedly takes plays off and does not always run the cleanest routes. It's his great speed and height that make him a threat. He only has 38 receptions on the year, 3rd on the Raiders, for 697 yards, 2nd on the team, for an 18.3 yard average, 1st on the team. He's not running great routes and moving the sticks, he's making the opponent respect his speed and still burning by them. |

I think he could be in offensive plays and still be fresh for the kick-off returns... plus he'll have atleast 4 or 5 plays to rest while the defense slows the other team from scoring..
Also... I'm not saying start Mathis... I'm just saying to get him in the game more.. He's a play maker AND if there are some questions... use him as a decoy... I would imagine after his work on Kickoffs, the opposing defense will know when he's in the game... fake a reverse, run a reverse, fake him deep, fake him short and throw deep... |

Mathis is not readyto be a fulltime starter. He's missed to much time with injuries. He needs to work into the slot, and see what happens from there.

I would love to see Mathis out there at WR but right now he is not ready to be a full-time WR, although I'd still like to see him in there on certain situations. Still, he has had injury problems this year and with other injuries to some of our other returners I think the coaches are trying to make sure he stays healthy for special teams since he has definitely made a huge impact on that part of our game. Other than Mathis, Domanick Davis and Dunta Robinson are our next available returners and I don't really like the idea of our starting RB, who we already run with too much during the game IMO, or our lone start DB returning kicks for us.
