Transition tag him. See what other teams offer for him. I doubt they will offer more than it would cost us to kick in his options. With the 8 mill bonus and all.

And if another team offers more than we want to pay, we get compensation for him.

Best idea to date.

That's the way it has to be done.

Thumbs up Should we keep Carr?

I don't believe that Carr is the problem. No quarterback can succeed either on his back or running for his life. The coaching staff needs to be replaced, and possibly the GM. An offensive line that can protect the quarterback should be the priority next season. Any quarterback playing behind our line is not going to succeed. Carr is a classic drop back 5 to 7 step quarterback. The fact that he can run is an added feature. Protect him, and he will hit his receivers.

Keep David Carr! He is the man for our team and I do not want to see him go somewhere else and become an All-Pro QB there.

Definately transition tag him... I think that as compensation we would get a 1st round pick, seeing as that is where we drafted him?

A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation. That means we would have to offer Carr AT LEAST the average of the top 10 salaries of this season's QB OR 120 percent of what Carr's salary in 2005. Do you guys really think any team would offer Carr this much money? If Carr was offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries of last season at QB, or 120 percent of Carr’s previous year’s salary, he becomes a “non-exclusive” franchise player and can negotiate with other clubs. The Texans can match a new team's offer, or receive two first-round draft choices if it decides not to match.

I thought the same thing and deffended Carr, but I was WRONG! The last couple of games Carr has had time to thorw the ball downfield. He locks in on his primary reciever and never looks off at number two. At least 4 times during the KC game he threw the ball on the ground in front of his recievers.
Carr advertises bigtime exactly where he is going to thow the ball!

You are right about more time to throw the last couple of games. However, if you are used to getting slapped upside the head every three seconds, you might have a hard time being relaxed enough to scan the field. Unfortunately, it's going to take more than a couple of games for him to not flinch around two and half seconds. He needs enough success at going towards five seconds before getting hammered for awhile... then he wll forget about it. But, he's been flattened constantly since he's been here. But, he's courageous and tough.

Does anyone know the exacts of a transition tag? Is there a link we can research it on?

Who do you think is going to give a 1st round pick for him? Just curious. Shop him but keep under consideration that no QB is going to do any better under the circumstances.

Keep Carr. I just think w/ new coaches, new philosophy, and the overdue upgrades on the O-line we'll see David Carr play much better than he has this season and even last season.

In what league does a QB get 5 seconds behind the Oline?

Funny thing about Carr is the longer he plays the better he was . He used to do things I don't remember seeing .
The thing with this whole situation is nobody is sure what happens behind the scenes . ( CARR LOVERS THESE ARE STRICTLY WHAT IFS DON"T GET RUFFLED ) Does Carr have the respect of his teammates ? Is Carr capable of going through his progressions ? Why has Carr regressed in his mechanics ? Does all of this mean he's hard to coach ? These are alot of Questions for a 4th year QB that due a bonus .

You have to keep Carr! We have invested way too much in him to let him go elsewhere and do what he can't do here: PRODUCE! I think he'd fit well with the Dolphins, Ravens or who knows maybe even the Jets seeing as no one knows what's going to happen up there next season.

Give him a slightly better line to protect him and I'm more than sure we will see what he is actually capable of when he isn't on his back or running for his life play after play as mentioned above...

I'm not sure about the investment angle . What is it that Carr has that you can't do without .
As bad as the OL is theres more to the story . As bad as the coaching is theres gotta be something else . The OL is not the worst group ever assembled talent wise . So is it there as dumb as a bucket of rocks or is it the coaching is the worst ever ( Palmer and Pendry have coached on playoff teams ) . Somewhere along the line they've had to dumb down the scheme to the point of being comical . The Texans know the problem and maybe thats why they have'nt drafted an OL .
If Carr leaves they are still in a QB quandry looking for answers ... just like today but for far less money .
