Default my hope for texans

I'm tired of seeing the same old mocks, so i've decided to change my opinion for a bit and see what happens if i play around with some picks. it's been a slow day so i've decided to post which players i would most like to see in a Texan uni.

Now i have been seeing a lot of mocks recently that have winston falling to the bottem of the first/top second. This will not happen.

after reviewing film of top LT's and Pitts, i have come to the conclusion for today that i would rather trade down to about spot 8-10 and draft Winston. I would startwinston off at RT for a year, and then put him at LT.
Winston has proven to be a better run blocking T than Furgeson and has held his own to him in pass blocking against better comp.

I have also seen MANY mocks that have Ahmad Brooks slipping out of the first. I feel this is unlikely, but i would like to see us pick him up in the second if he is there.

Assuming we get another second from the trade down, i would also like to see us persue one of the top 3 safty's. Idealy, huff falls, but i would be happy with either of the top three.

In the third im going to assume we have three picks now: our own, NO's pick, and the pick from the trade down. The first place i look now is Elvis Dumervile for pass rush. Next, i look for some run stopping DT's. The first one that sticks out this late would be Orin Harris. With our third third round pick, i look for a big, run blocking OG. I find that in Taitusi Lutui from USC.

In this senerio, in the fourth we only have our own fourth round pick. We attempt to address our TE problem by taking David Thomasfrom UT.

Recap:
1. Winston
2. Brooks
2. Huff
3. Dumervile
3. Harris
3. Lutui
4. Thomas

thats a lot of picks, and a lot of players who fill holes. What do you think?

Damn now this is mock that I can get behind. couple of issues in the third though. Harris and Lutui dont think they are really a needed type of player. The pick of Dumerville obviously means we are going to a 4-3. Well then I think we take another LB Rocky McIntosh in particular. Then with the last one we take a G/C not sure who I am for yet, need to review some tape. I think there are some tackles in college right now that project really well at G. thomas even though I hate UT is nice, but if Olsen or Nix from Auburn is available I say take them in the fourth. Nix is a WR in college, but he reminds me so much of Antonio Gates. 6-5 252 the kid is a talent, but it will take him a year to learn the TE posistion.

Nice to see everybody coming around on Winston, lets just hope that Casserly is smart enough to see that he is back to the form that made him the top tackle in the country before the knee injury.

hey reddevil63 Coach C. and I have been on Winston the whole time it is nice to see that you watched some film and came over to the top side. Winston is a NE type lineman a guy that can learn and make the probowl at any position except for Center. I cannot wait to see him in Battle Red.

the poll would suggest otherwise, but at least you can see who voted for who early on before the bandwagon pulled up http://www.houstontexans.com/fan_zon...ad.php?t=13584

I'm not on a particular bandwagon, as i try to avoid those.

I am, however, evaluating our current talent and needs. Fuerguson is not quite the guy that i feel will help this team the most. He only has one position, LT.

I feel that right now, based more on need, we should take Winston to play RT first. He is more of a mauler and has amazing upperbody and hand strength.

My main reason though for switching OL prospects like this is draft location. D'brick has not fallen off his hype this year, but is more of a project with almost no chance of failure. Winston is more NFL ready and also has little chance of failure. D'brick will go higher, and there will be a bidding war for the USC guys.

Trading down allows us to draft the more complete NFL prospect, and recieve extra draft picks.

i looked at the poll as well, but at that point, we did not have pitts playing well at LT, and Winston had not shown enough recovery to warent our pick.

Winston nor D'brick are worthy of the first overall pick and I dont know if we need to pick OL in the first round at all, I think its more of a coaching problem...but if we do trade down which we probably will, I really dont know who we should go with, I just hope it isnt winston....Haven't seen D'Brick that much, but I've watched Winston enough to know that he's not that good or at least he hasnt been playing that well as of late...and Im basing this on his pass pro...dont care about his run blocking because thats not the Texans problem...

If you have been watching him as of late then maybe you are watching the wrong guy. Winston has dominated his side of the line atleast the past 2 weeks. Powerful run blocking, speed and bull rushes, picking up LB and CB blitzes, he looked great.

No, Im talking about winston...He has looked decent at times, but Ive seen times where he has been dominated...and I hevent seen too many times where he's totally dominated opposition. He isnt going against top DE's every week is he? Is he picking up Top Blitzing LB's every week ? No I dont think so. If he was then his mediocre to Decent play would be a little more excusable... Point is, Hes not dominating nor is D'Brick...We dont have to get Bush with our first pick, but at least let it be someone who is dominating.

Can someone with appropriate authority ban these "draft Vince Young" comments? Vince isn't coming out and he's about the last person we should draft.

Also, Miami faced VT as well. Winston was lined up against Tapp as well, and handled him better than D'brick. Tapp is a very highly rated DE.

Well I know you may not have heard of him because he is not on Mel Kipers Draft board, but Winston was one on one with a DE named Eric Henderson who is a 2-time All-ACC player, so the argument that he isnt facing top talent goes out the window. Its the ACC, there arent really bad football players.
