hot of the presses here is the GBN breakdown year to date for the Texans and all the rest of the NFL teams along with top offensive and defensive performers-

Houston… The Texans have played as many rookies as any team in the league so far this season, although with somewhat mixed results. DT Travis Johnson, the 16th player selected this year, for example, has been a regular in the Houston defensive line rotation, but has just 15 tackles and 1 sack to date. Meanwhile, 3rd round RB Vernand Morency had only 10 carries - for 39 yards - through the first half of the campaigh, while 4th round WR Jerome Mathis had but 3 receptions, although one was for a TD. The speedy Mathis, though, is second in the entire NFL with a plus 30-yard average on KO returns which included an 89-yarder for another TD. In fact, the Texans' best rookies to date this year may have been 5th round C Drew Hogdon and 6th round DB C.C. Brown. Hogdon worked his way into the starting lineup and started 3 games, but may miss some time with a foot injury, while Brown is 5th on the team with 41 tackles... Preliminary grade: B-

Then here's what they say about Dallas...

Meanwhile, DEs Marcus Spears and Chris Canty, first and fourth round picks respectively, have provided some useful minutes on the 3-4 front, combining for 31 tackles and a couple of sacks.

So Johnson has 'just' 15 tackles and 1 sack while Spears and Canty "have provided useful minutes" by collecting 31 tackles and a couple of sacks...combined.

If those numbers are combined, then they're averaging 15.5 tackles and 1 sack each. In other words, the same numbers as Johnson.

Make sense to anybody else?

Clearly it is an example of the teams' records clouding someone's evaluation of the players' contributions to each team.

I think when we look back at this draft next year we will be very happy with what Cass & Company did for us, barring any injury of course.

Unfortunately a key injury has already hit. Hodg may be out for the year. Instead of playing him for the year and knowing if we have the center we need, we now have 3.5 games worth of tape, a hope and a need.

the Texans production from a high #1 pick (original #13 draft slot) in Travis Johnson does not reflect great value, meanwhile the Cowboys net just as much production from TWO later rd picks (#20 & #132) with emphasis on Canty. its also pretty well established the Texans track record reflects better success in the latter rounds, starting in the 4th than what they have done on the 1st day
