does anyone recall the coaches the texans first talked to before they hired capers? i was told that the talked with kubiak and he turned them down

I believe the Texans did interview Kubiak. But, I'm pretty sure that the story was that Kubiak pulled himself from consideration for the Browns' HC job a couple of years earlier.

Other coaches I recall who interviewed for Texan HC:
Butch Davis
Ted Cottrell
Wade Phillips
Al Saunders
Art Shell

Kubiak was the next to last interview (on 1-15-01) four days before they selected Capers as head coach. They also had permission to talk to Herm Edwards and Gregg Williams but didn't interview them because they took other jobs. Casserly also made contact with Walt Harris but it didn't lead to a formal interview.
