At the midpoint of the NFL season, who do you think is the MVP thusfar?

Carson Palmer:
First-Half Stats: 70% completions, 2285 yards, 18 TD, 5 INT, 106.3 QB rating, Cincinnati is 7-2;
Projected Stats: 70% completions, 4062 yards, 32 TD, 9 INT, 106.3 QB rating

Peyton Manning:
First-Half Stats: 69.3% completions, 1872 yards, 14 TD, 6 INT, 101.2 QB rating, Indianapolis is 8-0;
Projected stats: 69.3% completions, 3744 yards, 28 TD, 12 INT, 101.2 QB rating

Shaun Alexander:
First-Half Stats: 949 rushing yards, 5.4 yards per carry, 14 TD, 32 receiving yards, Seattle is 6-2;
Projected Stats: 1898 rushing yards, 28 TD, 64 receiving yards

Edgerrin James:
First-Half Stats: 905 rushing yards, 4.6 yards per carry, 8 TD, 181 receiving yards, 1 TD, Indianapolis is 8-0;
Projected Stats: 1810 rushing yards, 16 TD, 362 receiving yards, 2 TD

LaDanian Tomlinson:
First-Half Stats: 835 rushing yards, 4.3 yards per carry, 13 TD, 264 receiving yards, 2 TD, 3 passing TDs, San Diego is 5-4;
Projected Stats: 1484 rushing yards, 23 TDs, 469 receiving yards, 4 TD, 3+ passing TDs

I think you have to include Steve Smith in that discussion. He has 55 catches and 903 yards, with 9 TDs. Those are Rice-like numbers at the halfway point.

I would go with LT because his game is so multi-faceted. I mean how many 3 way threat players are there in the league? But, Steve Smith should get some respect for putting up the monster numbers that he is this season. His half season stats are decent full season stats.

Hate to say it, but I voted Manning. It's a close call, though, so I wouldn't argue with most of those choices.

And I disagree with Manning getting votes. This offense only goes where Edge takes us this year.

I went with Carson Palmer for the simple fact that he is having a season we probably expected David Carr to be having at this point in time. He has led that offense well in Cincinatti despite some people saying they haven't played great opposition...

LT is an obvious choice but with Antonio Gates and Drew Brees again having good seasons they are still a great team all over the field... would be my #2 pick on that list and definite MVP for the RB position...

But like evryone else has said, Steve Smith is THE absolute stand-out for MVP of the year at this point. He has brought that franchise back into the headlines for all the right reasons and has picked up where he left off like he has never missed one rep at practice or in a real game situation...

I personally voted for LT because he is such a good runner and has a great, well-rounded game. Manning and James are both putting up pretty good numbers and are on an undefeated team, but it might be like the Miami Hurricanes a couple years ago with Dorsey and McGahee taking votes away from each other. Shaun Alexander is on pace to put up arguably the best year ever for a RB, and his team is 6-2 so I had a bit of a hard time picking LT over him, especially since Alexander carries more of the load for his team. I thought about putting Steve Smith on the list but it's hard to vote a WR for MVP, but he has had an excellent year and I should have included him. He is also definitely the choice for comeback player of the year, but he also has a great defense and Stephen Davis on the team to help carry the offensive load. If the season ended today, I'd probably say Shaun Alexander was MVP and LaDanian Tomlinson was offensive player of the year since he's more well-rounded and has those three passing TDs, which unfortunately don't count towards the single-season total TD record, but he still has 13 rushing and 2 receiving TDs.

LT in the AFC, Alexander in the NFC. If Alexander weren't such an *** to the media, you'd hear a lot more about him. Somehow he manages to quietly lead the league in rushing yards and TDs all the time. Maybe it's just that I'm on the opposite coast, but I don't hear many references to him on national shows.
