I personally would never call a team the Texans and I made fun of it when I first heard that was their name. But then I moved to Houston and they became my hometown team so I've supported them ever since, especially after seeing them beat the Cowgirls in their inaugural game. If they want to call themselves the Texans them I'm all for it.

We didn't run him out of town. He packed up his team and left after trying to hold the city hostage.

If you notice, Reliant Stadium is not the sole property of the Houston Texans. A 'little' organization known as the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is also a big part of the stadium deal.

The fact of the matter is that Bud would never have become partners with the HLSR, because he wanted to control ALL the marbles.

Read "Oiler Blues" sometime, and then get back to us if you still want to be a homer for Bud Adams. Dude has been pulling this kind of garbage from year one in the AFL.

Good riddance, IMHO.

I'll take the Texans and whatever the future holds over any organization owned/controlled by Bud Adams.

Speaking of honeymoon, why don't you go ask Titan fans how they feel about ol' Bud now that their's is over.

Default I did read Oiler Blues....

It was an excellent read!

No doubt Bud held the city of Houston hoistage but didn;'t you guys end up spending way more money for the Texans than it would have cost to keep the Oilers?

But never mind all that...it's beside the point.

This is an argument and opinion born more out of emotion than rationale. I think it sucks thatt the Oilers aren't even arouynd anymore and it's more emotional than logical. It's just not right.

My anger lies less with people allowing Bud to move than not fighting for the team names and colors.

I mean people freakin hated Modell....but they were able to separate the name and colors from the man. Give Cleveland and their fans some due. Houston didn't even put up a fight. That's why I think you're karmically screwed.

Us ex Oiler fans are probably karmically screwed since we support the man whoi ripped the Oilers from the city of Houston. We're all screwed.

I'm not a Houstonian. Maybe you have to be from there to get it. But there's no way the city of Toronto wou;ld just lket the Maple Leafs go and some other org come in here and it would be the same. Forget about it. Tradition means something to some of us anyway.

Bring back the freakin Oilers. Your organisation could use some fans and some good pub. Bring back the columbia. Luv Ya Blue, some of the old timers...and let's get the show back on the road!

Let's steal back our song from the Dolphins. Let's pretend this Casserly crap never happened.

Bring back the OIL!

The name and colors are Buds baby. He is an Oilman and he chose the colors. Good riddance to all. The Oilers died when he took his ball and went home.

We are still glad that Bud is gone. We now have a state-of-the-art stadium, a classy owner, and much cooler looking digs. The Texans will have their day. It just isn't under this GM and coach.

I think many of the fans would still want the same outcome. I don't think of Bud as a villian like many of the other fans. He did have an unpolished and reckless quality that could have been helped with a good PR man. His lack of charisma is a key reason he is gone.

The Texan's "stuff" is cool. I like the uniforms, logo, and the stadium. McNair just has to find a better staff this time around.

You've got some good points, CTF.

Glad you read the book. At least we're on the same page about Bud with regards to his history.

We probably did pay more in the end, but I guess that's water under the bridge now.

I know Bud said he would NEVER give up the rights to the Oilers name, logo, and colors. That was a black/white issue with him, which I can understand since he has been the only owner of the franchise. Maybe that's why the NFL made a deal with the Browns? (ie. AM not being the only owner?)

But you're right...there wasn't much of a fight when he left. I can't really 'defend' Oiler fans, as much as I can explain it. I think Bud and the Oilers could not be separated in people's minds. They were one in the same. And he upset a lot of people during his 40 years as Houston's only pro football team owner (ie. 'dome renovations that just a couple of years later he was complaining about, firing Earl and Bum, etc...you know, you read the book, too).

Honestly, I can't say. But one thing does come to mind: 35-3 It broke our spirits. Not so much of an excuse, but maybe it sheds light on the subject.

But I still have to give some props to Bud, though. He did champion Houston for a new franchise, as well as Jerry Jones. I've got some respect and appreciation for both of them for that little favor.

As a native Houstonian, I used to think Houston sports was cursed, too. (35-3 didn't help, either).

But then two things happened: back-to-back Rockets championships and the Astros going to the World Series.

ps. no, no, and no on the old Oilers fight song, smurf blue, and bringing back old times.

Quite happy with the Texans - win or lose.

You guys are a captive audience. You're hardcore fans who have emotionally invested in your new (relatively) franchise. But look at it from the "mass" angle.

Purely from a PR and business standpoint I think a going back to the roots campaign would be a boon. I imagine, as with most fan bases that are losing, there is a high degree of apathy towards the Texans right now and they could get that turned around in a hurry.

The Oilers will always be a part of Houston. Look at that event you had for the Super Bowl and the reaction that those old Oilers still get...

Nationally, everyone would be on the story and feeling good about it.

It would take the focus off the losing. it would be another honeymoon deal. They'd sell 8 zillion jersey's. The city of Houston would be crazy pumped. From a marketing standpoinht the possibilities are endless. Reaching out to old players and fans...

It's like a link to the past can be rebuilt.

There is no broken link to the past here because we don't want to be associated with that loser & how held this city hostage. Nobody wants anything to do with Bud and Bud's team. You can love the Oilers from Canada all you want. They are dead here.

Yeah it was a great book. And while it detailed Bud's fiasco's very well, Pirkle DID put most of the onus of blame on the departure on Lanier than he did on Bud.

Thanks for the thoughts Double Barrel. To me the real shame is so many fans couldn;'t seperate the colors/tradition/identity from Bud (per your point).

I'm sure any old Oiler fan feels a "little" remorse that the Oil is dead even if they won't admit it. It was a big part of my youth that was ripped away and buried.

Them and the Expos. The differnece is I know the Expos will never come back. The Oil....hey man there's a little light there. That fire never completely dies. I just have to hope the Texans really blow for a while until McNair needs a gimmick bad.

It's been a pleasure, CTF. But don't hold your breath, because the Texans have a 30 year lease on Reliant. There ain't no going back.

H-town will never welcome the Oilers back, either as a franchise or as an image. That's just the way it is. Liken it to an ex-wife. You might look at the pictures of your vacations and good times together, and you can reflect fondly on those times, but you'd never take her back after she dumped you and married another dude.

Honestly, I have great memories of the Oilers as a kid and young adult. I'll always appreciate the memories. But after the past 10 years, there is simply no way that I'd ever root for another Houston Oilers. From a PR standpoint, that's pretty much a dead end street. I'd rather root for the Cowboys, and that means I'd have to be dead first.

Now, what city do the Oilers play in? Oh, you mean, wow, Nashville? I guess I forgot that. Didn't Houston have a team called Oilers years ago? Let's just take our chances on the Texans getting well quicker than the Oilers .... errrr.... Titans
