These guys seem to think that Mike Martz would be a good fit for the us. Personally I think the chance of us hiring him as a head coach are pretty slim and none because I think Mr. McNair would go another direction. That being said, I think Martz' career lies along the path of offensive coordinator. Just my

I don't think Martz's ego would allow him to accept a role lesser than head coach. I pray we aren't the ones to offer it to him. He's a nut case similar to run-n-shoot offensive coordinators who think they are right all of the time. Last time I looked, Martz's team only did really well immediately after Vermeil left him with a Super Bowl team. Soon thereafter, the demise hit. He's just in a conference where 8-8 is a playoff contender.

A couple things just don't sit right with me regarding Martz. First, he's been reluctant to really establish the running game and they tend to get into shootouts quite a bit. As a fan, that would be fun to watch, but I'm not sure it does much more than keep the team mired in mediocrity. Second, his plays require the QB to hold onto the ball a bit longer to let the deeper routes to develop. Bulger has taken a pretty good beating behind a line that is really pretty darn superior to ours.
Regarding the run/pass ratio ... hey, Andy Reid makes it work, so who knows? Regarding the offensive philosophy ... if he fixes the line, I think Carr could thrive in a system like that. I just don't have a warm/fuzzy feeling about Martz as HC. |

I don't consider him a viable candidate in Houston. Maybe a few years ago he was THE GUY people wanted but that luster wore off.
He's ill now anyway and who knows what will happen with that. He may not be able to coach anymore. |

The guy is about 180 degrees different than Capers.
With Capers: Grab a blanket, some cookies and a glass of warm milk. With Martz: Grab the anti-acid, and get ready to cuss all game long. He's made just as equally bad coaching decisions as Capers. AND, he's arrogant and snippy to go along with it. The guy is no better than Capers, IMO. And with JJ, you just have to think that you get a guy who's "been there, done that" and he'll do only as well as his talent does....and then he's done. There's no way that guy is taking a Texans HC offer. He's not into re-living his glory days, and it's probably all the best for everybody. Right now, when I see a Jim Mora Jr. ripping up the NFL with sub-par running backs and an often-injured Vick....I gotta think that Kubiak is the next best thing that we could pick up as HC. Today's NFL doesn't need old geezer disciplinarians like Parcells, Coughlin, and JJ. It needs young, passionate guys like Jim Mora Jr. whom the players can relate to and get along with because it's a generational thing in today's NFL. Martz? Not for me. |

If Mike Martz becomes our new HC, Domanick Davis had better demand a trade. If a HOF'r like Marshall Faulk can't get a lot of carries in his offense, DD is doomed for stats. Martz loses too much because he is way too quick to bail on the run. For that, we need an O-Line which we ain't got. My personal choices are Kubiak, Phillie's OC (I can't recall his name at this time), Saunders (KC's OC), heck I would consider Wade Williams if it was a bad idea to scrap the 3-4.

martz will go to a team that wants a complete an utter difference in scheme and thought. I do not think that McNair wants that. He will look to the hometown guy and best choice Kubiak. Martz is just to big a headache, he is a TO type guy at the coaching position.
Kubiak is a hardnosed kind of guy who is an offensive coordinator with a D-coordinator smack you in the mouth attitude. |

Martz is garbage. I want no part of the self proclaimed offensive genius.

I would not like to see him as HC, but as an OC.

I think that we can agree that St. Louis was arguably one of the greatest Offensive units while he was an OC.

Can't picture Martz's ego allowing him to go from HC to OC. If he brings Orlando Pace with him then I am all for him being HC.

No way he fits here in Houston. We also don't have the personnel to run what he wants. Lord knows how bad we would be if DD was not allowed more than 15 carries a game.
