...that the Texans will have pick #1 in the 2006 NFL Draft. It's looking that way.

Since Vince Young has stated he's going back to UT, that takes one name off the table.

Who, as fans, do you want to see the Texans pick? It's apparent that the first 2 picks will be from USC.

...Matt Leinart? Who, armed with a boatload of talent (No pun intended to any Vikings fans lurking), also brings a certain fan base with him? (ala the Who's who in Hollywood) This would let Carr know that his talents are probably going to have to be showcased somewhere else.

...or Reggie Bush? The next great thing in football? This kid can do it all...and he's a nice guy, to boot. This would effectively be the end of the DD era, unless he accepts a backup role, which I don't think he would like.

...or do you let this talent fall to other teams, and draft the best offensive lineman available? Trade the pick for a good o-lineman, and pick another good 0-lineman with your second pick?

I'm all about addressing the needs. Unfortunately, the needs are not agreed upon by the fan base, so I thought I would ask and see.

It all starts with the o-line. The greatest QB / RB in the world are nothing if they cannot find protection or holes to run through.

On the other hand, a solid (and consistent) line can make even mediocre players look good.

No Quarterback likes to get hit. It makes it hard for them to do their job. Some of them will bounce up and get back in their, but over time ask Carr if those don't add up. The point being we are not looking for a tackling dummy or a quarterback that is though enough to be one. We need to be looking at a big picture. At the top of the draft we should be looking for Impact players and team leaders. The reason Lienert and Bush will be picked up so quickly is because they fit that mold. I think we should take Bush, as he would make the best impact on our team and then either look at O-line projects. We need to get into Free agency and get proven linemen. Or even if we drafted the best offensive line guy availible in (college football) we will still need to draft a new quarterback next year, so this guy can learn the system and get up to speed, while Carr gets pummel beyond repair. I believe running backs are the quickest at getting into the NFL and having immediate success. The key to quick recover is more weapons not more protection, or else you might as well keep Capers.(his philosophy is protect till the end and maybe you can win) The Colts haven't won it all yet, but I would prefer us to look like they do rather than the Ravens, at least we would be able to celebrate a lot more even if we didn't win every game.

He is a good leader and a clutch passer. Alot of teams in the NFL seem to play a quarterback that "won't hurt you by big turnovers", this guy not only offers that, but can win the game on 4th and 9 and everyone knows it. Ask anyone at ND. Brady has been the same way for the patriots the last three Superbowls. The only gamble with Lienert would be his durability and in the NFL no one last forever. Brett Farve is the only exception I can think of in the last 20yrs. With as big and strong as these guys are getting I done think long term on QB position, especially in Houston. That said, I don't think we should pick him up, I think Bush would be much more versatile as a weapon and give us a better chance to win offensively. Their is no team in the NFL that dominates at the line alone week after week. It makes it easier if can win alot of those battles, but ultimate success is with your decision positions and playmakers, and how quickly they execute.

Half of the starting LT's in the league are 1st rounders. All of the stud LT's were taken in the top 10. We have struggled for offensive consistency for 4 years. Is there any question where we need to go with the first pick?

Yea, we need to go buy one of these studs you are talking about and stop overpaying the guys we got. And use are first pick on resources that are harder to come by. Their are five linemen per team 32 teams thats 160 guys. Compare that to starting RB 32-40 depending on system, 32 QB's,WR's probably 64-80. Didn't we try the lineman thing with our original pick in the Expansion draft? Is their no proven guys we could get from another team? We were looking at Orlando Pace last year. Why not actually follow through and out bid someone, who has cap problems, etc..? To me it would be more difficult to go out and get a stud in his prime RB or QB then several linemen. What would the price be for LT or either Manning vs say a STUD lineman? I think you go after the best assest and shop for other items we need.
