Regardless, it was just hilarious.

"GO FOR IT! Let's go for it!" (waving his hands and getting no response from any other coaches or coordinators)

(...kicking team trots out onto the field.)

(missed field goal, camera pans to Capers)

(Capers staring out onto the field, wondering what type of grass the field is)
Capers just talked about that on his radio show and said it was his call to kick the field goal. The caller acutally said she saw him saying "lets go for it" but also saw the kicking team came on and wanted to know who was responsible for that.

He dodged the question and said he thought it was their best chance to get points before the half. Oh, and instead of "we didn't execute" now it's "we didn't execute the fundamentals".

He completely dodged the question. Very typical of this organization. These people are going to figure out, sooner or later, that we're not a bunch of dumb fans and that most of us grew up on football and are fully aware of what's going on. It's going to take a lot to earn our respect back and it will start with firing this entire front office.

I heard that exchange too and also felt he completely ducked the question. I'm with you: The entire front office and coaching staff need to go.

That was me that asked the question! I was actually surprised that they let me ask such a point blank question. When he started dodging the question I wanted to ask if he regretted no goin with the momentum then, but I was already cut off by then.

At least I know that all the responsibility now falls directly on his shoulders!

Nice job. Too bad you couldn't get an answer out of him.

The real question is... was it his decision or did another coach on the staff make the call while the rest of team went with it. If that is the case, this guy should have been fired immediately after the game because he has completely lost control of this team.

Casserly has had 4 years to build a decent team and we're worse than we were our inaugural season. As it turns out we've all had good reason to pull our hair out every draft day wondering WTF Casserly was thinking. His picks were every bit as bad as we thought they were.

Casserly's best moves: Andre Johnson and Dunta Robinson. The only reason Casserly picked Andre Johnson is because Detroit had already taken Charles Rogers. The only reason Casserly picked Dunta Robinson is because the Jets had already taken De Angelo Hall. Anyone could have made those picks.

Picking David Carr and putting him behind the world's worst offensive line was a bad move. The only thing that's taught him is how to run for his life. That's not hindsight, a lot of us said we needed to build the offensive line first, but Casserly is the "expert" and who are we to question the expert?

I heard Capers take full responsibility for the loss yesterday. When will I ever hear Casserly take responsibility for giving Capers absolutely nothing to work with? How much did Casserly overpay Todd Wade and Morlon Greenwood? What did we give up for Jason Babin? When is that second round pick we wasted on Bennie Joppru finally gonna pay off? Why didn't Casserly fight harder to convince our pro bowl corner Aaron Glenn that he fits into our plan? What did he see in Travis Johnson?

When are we going to finally use our #1 pick on an offensive lineman? The commercials they ran during the draft making fun of our line should have been a clue.

Fire Casserly before the draft before he wastes our #1 pick on Matt Leinert (you know he will!).

He was an assistant somewhere, maybe even two or three other places, and you didn't hear his name called all those years leading up to his first HC job? But there he is one day...making a splash, getting it done. Most recently it's Marvin Lewis, Romeo Crennel, and Charlie Weiss in the NCAA. All of those guys were quality assistant coaches/coordinators and the success just translates if you ask me.

Look back at how Mariucci and Sherman and Andy Reid were all a part of Mike Holgren's GB staff (I think that's right). And possibly even John Gruden was in that bunch before he became a HC at Oakland.

Yesterday's assistants, Today's head coaches: Green Bay staff leads the way

You see each of them in those NFL Films clips, back in the day when they were all assistants, and you can just see in their body language and in their focus, and in what they say to their players' units: You could SEE the potential in those clips.

I see the same thing in Marciano. The guy is enthusiastic, motivational, and he just has "purpose" burned into his eyes when you look at him.

Why couldn't we give him a shot? Give him the authority to replace the coordinators and assistants. Go out and get free agent coaches out there and finish up this season with a different attitude. Something like this will not happen because McNair is just not going to fire Capers in mid-season. But I think it couldn't hurt in terms of the product that's being trotted out onto the field right now. What could it hurt to give a guy on your own staff the chance to HC? It also communicates to other coordinators and other assistants out there who are alreayd on NFL teams right now that "You can have a shot at promotion within if you come to the Texans..."

Marciano for HC.
I don't know why everyone thinks Marciano is so great. Our return units were so bad that we dumped JJ for these speed guys we have now. You might notice, they haven't done anything special either. It doesn't take much to coach a guy to punt and another to kick field goals. Our coverage teams haven't been stellar either. Remember Dante Hall returning a punt all the way a couple years ago on us? I think we've been burned on kick-offs too. I'm sorry but Mathis should be averaging 30 yards a return and Buchanon 10+ yards per punt return. Our special teams coaching isn't anything special.

The reason why we dumped JJ was because he didn't have breakaway speed. Even so, he did a pretty good job given the supporting cast around him.

I believe the Texans aren't the only team that has been burnt by Dante Hall.

As for Mathis, I have high hopes for him if he can stay healthy. Hamstring pulls are hard to come back from. You just can't run full speed with them. I am actually surprised he has played as much as he has.

The reason why I am impressed with the special teams coaching is that it has consistently played better than the rest of the team--it is the same talent but with better results. Our offense and our defense this season have often been near the bottom of the league rankings, but our special teams have been near the middle, with the same talent. And this was having Morency return a lot of kicks because of Mathis' health issues.

One of the most difficult part of coaching special teams is the salary cap--that once you get guys who know how to play it, they get enough years in the league that you have to start paying them more. (Marciano hates dealing with salary cap issues). And you have to take the players that are more important for the other parts of the team.

Even with all the changes on special teams, with all sorts of new players doing new roles, they are performing much better than the rest of the team. (IIRC, the Texans special teams is ranked higher than the Colts, as just a point of comparison).

As I said before, I am not saying that Marciano needs to be head coach or anything, but I do think he is a bright spot for our team. With all the things that people are trashing about the team, I just was trying to point out something that is good.
