Glenn and Sharper

Can someone explain the salary cap benefits of releasing Glenn and Sharper. I'm not well versed on the NFL cap but I heard we got more room for next year by releasing them before this season rather than before next season. Maybe I was letting these guys slide on name recognition but I would have had to put them as two of our top 5 defensive players last year (not saying a whole lot), and it just seemed weird letting them go when we didnt appear to be in cap trouble. Maybe we can make some real acquisitions next year.

I can't help much with your cap question. I can tell you though, that I think we lost much more than just another player when we lost Aaron Glenn. I think Aaron was a real leader on and off the field for the Texans, and the difference without him is obvious.

I don't care what the salary cap had to do with anything, the Texan's lost too very popular and effective defensive players in Sharper and Glenn. In my humble opinion, Jay Foreman was also a big loss!

Probably a back loaded contract that the FO felt vs. age and what they could probably get on the cheap to replace with "younger / faster" itr wasn't worth it to keep around.

I still don't buy the "leader on the field" - I think that's the coaches duty. If the players need a leader on the field - seems that makes them a follower and possibly expecting their "leader" to show them the way.... or make plays.

Shaper and Glenn were too expensive and they didn't want to play another year for the Texans.

They now playing somewhere else, and they are playing for much less money than we were supose to pay them.

Roy Williams was at fault on both of those plays. Maybe the worst in the game at his position in helping on the long ball

So Roy AND Glenn gave up the play. Glenn was solo in his int last week however. Please go ahead and reach more that getting rid of Glenn was the "right thing to do"

It does not make me happy. Just a known fact that it is a glaring weakness in an otherwise sound game that the All-Pro still needs to work on. Mix in a aging Glenn and it is not a surpise.

Wow, discard Glenn as garbage because some TDs were scored on his defense?

Safety help was needed on those plays, and MOST people realize that

One one play they were playing 4 deep zone, where Glenn had to cover the left side of the defense, Moss ran a go route down the middle right at Williams and it was Glenn coming over to help out Williams. Both missed the play due to Moss' speed.

This team could use Glenn and Sharper right now .... Those were BONE-HEADED moves by the front office ....That was my take when they were let go and Ill stand by that today .

Yeah, after that game saving INT last week in San Diego, I was about ready to have a jersey burning ceremony in the parking lot.



Glenn was partly at fault last night. Most of the blame falls on Williams.

Honestly guys I don't think the D is doing that bad. Most of the points they ahve given up have been due to good field position given to the opposing team by turnovers. That said, P-Bust should be benched for the remainder of the season or just released right now. I mean he has been burned for big gains and he hasn't forced a single turnover. And the matedor move sealed it for me. Beyond his play, the D isn't that bad off.

Faggins and Robinson have been burned for the big plays also. Should release them too? Or should we accept the fact that we might have the worst pass rush in the league and when you give a QB lots of time to throw and more importantly let him feel comfortable and have no fear in the pocket then your secondary is in trouble.

I agree PB matedor move was just pathetic and I think most people are forming their oppinion on that one play. Or giving the one play a lot of weight in their decision.

The NFL is a business. Replacing the big salaried famous old guys who for young talent is how you win in the NFL these days. Ask the Steelers, Eagles, Patriots. They are masters of it.

We released them and they signed for other teams for MUCH LESS money. Do you think anyone would have picked them up for the amount of money we were supose to pay them? No way, they weren't worth it.

Plus they are getting old. Yes they were great but they don't have a lot left in the tank.

Coaches pad up and tackle?

Defensive leaders call audibles and direct different positions to make plays. Plus they lead by example. Never underestimate the leadership of a player like Ray Lewis on the field.

We had that with Jamie Sharper...
