Default Casserly is the luckiest man on earth!!!

CC is like the teflon man...NOTHING STICKS!!
Is CC having the greatest slump of his life or is he really not a good GM?
Yes, I know that he came to Houston as the man who single handedly built the Redskins powerhouse... he came in as a genius GM according to Bob McNair
So if that is true...what happened here for the last 4 years?
Let's be fair, he had some successes, that is:
1. Nobody expected DD to be a starter on this league, yet I have the feeling that the next game will be his last due to his injury prone record
2. He did get Sharper, Glen, Foreman and Posey only to get rid of them at the first opportunity he had for nothing in return
3. Dunta, CC Brown seem to be good picks
And the failures, are so many that I am sure I will miss some:
a. Failure to hire a winning head coach. Look at Caper's statistics. He's only had one winning season as a head coach. His overall winning percentage is less than 40 percent. So you would ask, why was he hired? CC needed to hire a head coach that would never compete with him for a general manager position. All the good coaches in the NFL out there to be hired, want to have a say in hiring and personnel decisions. I always asked, why did Mr. McNair not go for a proven winner like Jimmy Johnson or the Tuna? Not to mention other worthy candidates? McNair made his biggest mistake in hiring Casserly who wanted a head coach who wouldn't be asking for his job.
b. Just plain bad and sloppy personnel decisions. For a coaching staff who had a whole year to prepare for their first season, the mistakes they made are unbelievable. Such as paying tons of money to Boselli for not playing a single down for the Texans. Yeah...yeah...we have all heard the excuses about the absolute need for that decision so that we could get Walker and Paine...I say, it was no way near worth the tons of money this franchise shareholders have to play.
Some other Draft/Expansion Draft/ Decision ones: Eric Young, Joppru, Steve McKinney, Seth Wand, Tony Hollings, David Carr who right now is looking like Tim Couch (Palmer by the way was his HC, think it is a coincidence?), Wiegert,
c. Getting rid of Sharper, Posey, Foreman and Aaron Glen for nothing in return...way to go CC!!! Sure...you convinced Mr McNair it was a brilliant decision
d. Why would the Texans hire Vic Fangio who had one of the worst defenses in the NFL? Just look up the statistics. Fans in Inddianapolis held a victory parade downtown when he was fired. So, how did he become our DC? Simple, it's called the fraternity of coaching which insures that many worthy, coordinators will never get to the NFL because in the NFL it's like "I will hire you when you get fired, if you hire me when I get fired". So, we got people like Capers and Fangio.
e. Fangio likes to brag about his defense being the most complicated in the NFL. Please!! somebody tell Fangio what the KISS rule is all about. I have never seen a more incompetente DC than Fangio. When his linebackers drop into coverage in obvious running plays, and the opposing half back runs through the 3 DL untouched, and by the time he gets tackled, he has gained 12 yards, and you see this over and over again, then somebody please question this "my defense is the most complicated in the NFL" b.s.
f. Palmer had to go before the first Texans season. The fact that some people even question this decision after 4 years is still incredible. Palmer will one day make a good QB coach in the NCAA.
g. Casserly has got to go..... Mr. McNair you did not build an economic empire overlooking the simple fact that you need to get a decent return in your investment. This is as bad as it ever going to get. Insisting on a 5 year plan only helps Casserly getting away with mediocrity
and one final note,
h. Did you ever see Casserly on TV? I saw him 3 times, and I quit in disgust. I thought the Jack Pardee was the worst display of cheerleading in the NFL. CC proved me wrong. God, that is as awful as watching David Carr on Sunday

i. Failure to build an average Offensive Line. Yeah..we heard how hard he tried to find a DL...yeah... poor CC.. he tried but could make it happen... it is tough in the NFL...mean guys...

The Texans would not have gotten anything out of Glenn, Sharper, Foreman, or Posey in a trade. Teams don't trade draft picks for average or even above average players. Well, the Texans do, but that's another story. There are better players than all of those guys released each year.

I'm not suggesting that releasing them or not resigning them (Posey) was the best decision. They weren't going to get draft picks out of them, though.

They don't have the best personnel but I think scheme has a lot to do with it. Read between the lines on post game quotes and such. Wiegert talking about the protection package they installed not working, etc., etc. Every once in a while one of our OL's will get beaten physically - most of the time it's McKinney - but 90% of the time it's about someone being out of position or "technique" ... things of that nature. There's little things that come out from time to time that are telling. I think it's as much the system as it is the personnel.

After reading this I was going to DEFEND CC BUT....I am still in ANGUISH :brickwall over our recent draft.

1st round: We say we won't draft D. Johnson b/c he played in 4-3. Ok but then we go draft T Johnson who played in a WHAT ....4-3.

2nd round: P Buc essentially. I can live with this.

3rd round: V Morency. Are you saying DD is not the man CC? B/c you must be saying this if you have a OL that has been has bad has ours has and you draft a BACKUP RB?

I don't even need to go into the rest of the draft b/c it only makes me more upset. I hate to do this but I'm on the FIRE CC & DC committee as well now.

I don't think the guy has done "that" bad of a job. Last time I checked he doesn't take the snaps, create playbooks, or call the plays from the booth. This team has some pretty good talent for only being in existence in a short period of time...the staff just doesn't know what to do with it.

Which is going to lead to a lot of disappointed fans when we replace the LT again. I see on the boards and hear on the radio constantly that we need a "stud left tackle". Say we had brought Pace in. What would it have solved in the last game or other past performances?

1) Would it have stopped Pitts from being beaten on the stunt last game?
2) Would it have stopped Weigert from being susceptible to delayed line backer blitzes?
3) What happens to Wade, who isn't as solid as we need him to be now, if the defense moves their best/fastest rusher to his side to avoid Pace?
4) Will it make any of the other lineman better blockers against their own man? It's not like they are helping the LT double team now.
5) Would it make any of the lineman better at their own technique?
6) Would it make the system better?
7) Would it have prevented the 4 sacks that (Capers says) were the running backs faults?

Yes, having Pace or another of the very few "stud" left tackles would improve the team. Having the best player at a given position should do that, and would in this case. However, I'm not sure how great an effect that would have on the overall offense. As stated above, the problem is much deeper than one player and his match-up.

Drafting/acquiring a free agent LT is just a first step in what looks to be a long process, unless a way is found to improve what we have on the line already. That's the coaches challenge and responsibility.

The thing about "technique" and such sounds a lot like excuses to me. Last year I bought into that, but I'm getting tired of it. If they can't learn to do it, they need to be replaced whenever possible. It's just like these speed freaks who cannot run a route correctly or come up with a descent fake move before sprinting down the side-line. Strength, speed, weight, and height don't mean much if you just can't do it on the field.

However, I'm all for losing a GM and a few coaches right now. Fangio seems to be the only one who has a clue. I know I'm not the expert either, but....well, yes I am. (just kidding)

Has it occurred to anyone that just maybe we need to lose the zone blocking scheme? I mean, I didn't think it would effect the passing game much, but look at the time line.

Correct, we don't have the athletic linemen to run the scheme properly. When the Bronces were in their glory days, they had smaller more athletic linemen who could get to their area faster than the big 300+ lb linemen. Again, Dan Neil could have been at least a good consultant to the zone blocking scheme. For those of you who will talk about DD's 1000 yard season, didn't he gain 1000+the previous year while starting and playing in fewer games? Why did we change? What does zone blocking do to improve pass protection? Thats where ALL of our problems are.

Yep! And the scheme was created by? (hint-not the GM)

Ah, technique. When an O-lineman gets graded, a lot of the grading is about hand placement, foot placement, where was their first step, etc. I agree that a lot of that is important - balance certainly is, getting lower than the opponent, etc. It was also kind of funny watching these big lineman "dancing" in the technique drills during camp. However, I like to see them make their blocks too, even if their left hand is a little too low or something.

Don't know if I'm right or wrong about this, but if a team traded, wouldn't they have to pick up their existing salary. If they wait for waivers they can negociate a salary and not pay what the team they came from was paying them?

Interesting note that I was listening to 610am on the drive home last night and they stated from insider sources that Casserly was very strong into signing David Carr's extension before the start of the regular season. The "scout team" was against it, and had actually talked Casserly out of doing so and letting David play out the season to see how he actually does.

It's gonna be fascinating to see how this whole thing with DC plays out, but anybody who thinks that GMs, HCs, and other Draft Day decision makers/pickers don't have a vested interest in which players succeed and which ones don't grade out is smokin the good stuff. Maybe McNair liked the
young family man from Bakersfield, but I don't think he wanted to draft him
just on the basis of being a fellow Bible pounder - ya know Cass had to put his seal approval on DC. Lookin more and more like Carr won't be another John Elway, lets just hope he didn't peak in college and become a victim of the Peter Principal in the NFL.
