Fangio's D isnt getting pressure despite the energy we have put into it, and the boatload of talent in our secondary is going to waste.

Palmer's offense is a joke.. im not sure what his plan is with this O he is running.. but maybe he should spend a few years practicing with a pee wee team before he brings it to a professional level.

Capers.. I LIKE capers.. i really do.. but I honestly wonder if he is capable of leading a team. It doesnt look like we are out there to win sometimes. For a team to be effective.. especially a team that is running on a defensive mindset.. the players have to trust the coach to make the right decisions and get them the win. There are only so many times you can have one of these dismal performances before the team loses faith in the coaching staff's ability to get them the W. I think this team has lost faith in Capers and the other coaches and we need a fresh start.


I cant beleive im typing this junk. I hate(d) posts like this for the last 3 years.. but this loss was just unexcusable. I thought the loss to the Browns was as bad as it could get.. but this is much worse. We are a team that is still learning to win.. and it looks like we have been sleeping in class all offseason.

B. No problem going for it on 4th and goal early in the game resulting in a TD. With under 6min left in the game down by 2 TDs we decide to throw in the towel and punt. And we wonder why the players are ill prepared and inconsistent?

That O-line is making everyone else on the offense look bad. They're also deflated. The defense is getting tired because they're on the field too much. Carr is running for his life. He even has to roll out and score the only TD on his own and that is not unusual at all. Today, they didn't even run block. I was actually impressed with the performances of DD and Carr, considering they had no blocking at all. The were NO holes to run through and the D was in the backfield. Right now, I want Casserly's head. We need blockers.

I know Casserly is the one person we don't like to talk about firing around here, but I'm tired of watching the QB run for his life and it's definitely a lack of blocking ability. It's not a learning curve. It's not the head coaching (I mean the line problem). It's just the simple fact that our O-line is NOT NFL calibur.

1)They start Mathis over Bradford to give a double threat with Andre and do whatever THE HELL they want with Jabbar and Corey in a position battle for the slot receiver.

2)Stop being conservative about everything

3)Watch other teams utilize the 3-4 and figure out how to get pressure or confuse people. (Watch the Ravens confuse Peyton Manning and limit the 35-49pt wins they are used to)

4)Play 3-4 WR sets and use those TE's like all the other teams that try and get it done. (Chargers, Packers, Cheifs, Giants, Dolphins, Eagles, Falcons, half-the-league, etc...)

5)Take their chances on experimenting with and pick up a vet/free agent or a released/contract expired player like a Peerless Price, or change that 4 HB spot, drop one and try someone like an Eddie George before the week 6 deadline.

I think what happened is that the so-called "new playbook" went missing 5 min before last night's game. Palmer had to bring fourth the old one, dust it off. He opened it and first page had this DD run up the middle....

I really think the offense needs a big infusion of confidence. Somebody, anybody has to start making big plays and getting this thing rolling. David literally runs for his life sometimes and he got nailed twice that I saw and I was fast forwarding over much of the game.

I'm impressed with the rookie QB of the Bills.

AJ said it best when other people missed assignments. Hell, even my wife, who isn't a huge fan of football was asking me why Gaffney was running a sprint instead of trying to catch the ball that hit him in the shoulder. Damn ball would have been in his bread-basket.

4) The o-line cost us the game by not protecting Carr. Carr was sacked how many times from his strong side, not his blind side. Talk about missed assignments. Look, Buff D was outstanding, but there is no reason why we shouldn't have moved the ball a little bit easier than what we did. Carr had barely half a second to make a decision I'd say, at least 75% of the time he dropped back. An absolute embarressment. I wouldn't have minded giving up a first round pick for this years draft and next years draft for Pace...it would been worth it and would have made the game a little more interesting.

I'm still troubled by that there are people out their that think we need to start a different QB. When, reaslistically, has Carr been given the chance to succeed when he knew he had decent protection? None of you can answer that because he has NEVER HAD DECENT PROTECTION. He's been on the run since his first snap against Dallas in '02. Man, if I'm Carr, and I make it through this season, I'm going up to McNair and telling him if he doesn't shake things up with the o-line, I don't play till they do.

I've been going to bat for Carr for a while now. Joe Montana would look bad with this protection and the verdict is still out on what Carr's potential is given an good O-Line. However, some of these throws as of late have been really bad. Bills safety Troy Vincent, who had two of the three interceptions, said Carr looks at some receivers too long before delivering the ball. There is plenty of blame to go around. No one is excluded...

...the coaches put the best players on the field. Forget names or salaries, put the best players on the field, or even the team. Hollings? Come on already.

Also, the coaches allow a mentaility of "I'm a starter, I'll play". Take training camp injuries for instance. If you're a big name starter, you can sit out much of camp with a "sore hamstring" and not be penalized. Is that leadership? Hold these guys accountable! What's wrong with "if you miss half of camp, you miss half of the first game".

When a player goes down in pre-season, the first sentence is "Player X sprained a Y". The second sentence is always "but he'll be ready for opening day". I'm all for resting real injuries, but hey, if three weeks isn't enough to recover, sit out the first game to make sure you are OK.

The team is supposed to use camp to learn how to play together. If the coaches allow players to sit out with a wink and a nod, it hurts the team. Yes, it's just practice, but obviously some of our units lack in communication that comes from playing together.

My sentiments exactly. I feel like I've been pretty patient. But this is year four. This is when the team should start showing real improvement and consistency, building on the foundation from previous seasons. This might as well have been their first game ever---it looks like we're starting from scratch. How many ridiculous penalties? How many turnovers? I didn't see any sign of cohesion or discipline yesterday. This was a disaster, plain and simple. The defense did an admirable job considering what they were handed by the offense. Pity David Carr. This kid has the tools to be one of the premier players in this league, but we've asked him to go out and get creamed on every down by handing him the crappiest protection collecting an NFL check.

Something needs to change, and something BIG.

Championship teams are built around GREAT OFFENSIVE LINES. This team is going nowhere with this offensive line....

This is a LOT less important than the O-line. Sure, it would be nice to have another star receiver. But how many teams have even so much as one receiver of AJ's caliber?

A) They've needed to do that for the last two years.
B) Capers knows how to build teams, not take them to the next level. I don't think he has it in him to go where we want to...
C) The ONLY reason I can see to change QB's is if they don't get my damn O line fixed. Why risk David's health???

Defense - I thought the defense did okay considering they spent so much time on the field and so much of it on OUR end of it. The pass-rush is still an issue. We should have been pressuring Losman all day long. You will see him struggle a lot more when he goes against a blitzing team. Also, guys (Peek and Wong) need to come up with the INT's when they are hit in the hands.

Special teams - they had good coverage against one of the best return teams in the league. You really cannot gauge the kicking game since he was on the field all of 3 plays (two of them kick offs). Stanley remains an asset. I still think we should have kept Reggie Swinton as our return man. He is explosive. That said Morency and DD had above average return yards, and PB was okay on punts too.

Offense - The blame can go all the way around. AJ was getting double or triple teamed, so you would assume the other receivers would be open. This was not the case. The line got pushed around and/or run around. The edge rushers made the tackles look like revolving doors. The interior line seemed to be bunched up on every rushing play. The play calling was pop warner level. Carr looked like he had the confidence of a fat, pimple-faced teenager asking out the eventual prom queen. I couldn't really make a read on DD because he spent the entire game in the backfield blocking or getting tackled.
The problem I am having is determining whether the issue is talent or scheme. I am afraid the blame lies on both, but moreso on scheme.

This is just one game. There is plenty of time to reverse our fortunes, but there were too many elements wrong offensively. If we play like this much of the season, I expect us to enter 2006 with a new offensive coordinator, new OLT, and replacements for a few other underachieving/undertalented positions.

I used to think talent, but now I'm thinking coaching/scheme. The players are asked to do the same thing every week, and it keeps not working. Change something! Our o-lineman have strengths and weaknesses, but no adjustments are being made, or the adjustements aren't given a chance to work. Instead, we inject a new player in the line to make it look like we did something.

I see lots of calls for a new LT, but that won't correct the poor O-line coaching. If Orlando Pace had been at LT yesterday, what would have changed?
