The Cardinals and new coach Dennis Green were found in violation of the League's collective bargaining agreement for practices during organized team activities which were deemed too intense.

An investigation based upon player complaints found the Cardinals and new coach Dennis Green violated the League's collective bargaining agreement for Organized Team Activities. The NFL Management Council and NFL Player's Association deemed the "intensity level and tempo of drills" violated the agreement.

As punishment, the Cardinals final week of offseason conditioning program was forfeited.

The Cardinals are the second team this offseason to be punished for practices. Tom Coughlin and the Giants were penalized two of their 14 OTA days after they broke rules concerning length of workouts and scheduling of classroom sessions.

I think each team should be able to conduct practices as they wish. If they want to have hitting drills so be it. If they don't that's fine too.

This is maybe a little too much regulating but perhaps I'm not understanding the "why" of the rule itself. I don't see where it would give any team an advantage over another based on summer practices.

These guys deserve an actual "offseason". I cannot imagine having Spring Training type activities for 4 months prior to Training Camp. I'm all for the guys staying in shape, but some of these coaches push the envelope.

You should be able to hit to an certain extent. I went through spring training this past spring and the most we were allowed to do drill wise was a grudge match type thing were you drive the person head up on you the opposite way. But these NFL players do need a break to rest their bodies or they are not gonna last as long as they could. They just need resonable boundries that both officals and coaches can agree on.

What is the average career (year wise)for an NFL player?

Isn't it a fairly low number...like 7 years or something.

I'd like to see the average career of the guys who sign 2+ contracts. It seems like the NFL average isn't so much an indication of the longevity of individual players as much as the ineptitude of many of them. Think of what our 3rd round pick in 2002 (was his name Charles Hill?) would do to the NFL average. That guy didn't even play a season in the NFL did he? There are many cases of guys that never play more than a season or two. I would bet the median for an NFL career is closer to something like 7-8 years.

Gosh the short length of the careers surprised me. I thought 7 was too conservative and I'm off by 4 years..
