The Associated Press reports the Houston Texans have signed former Arena Football League 2 WR Donovan Morgan. He led the league in regular season scoring with 57 touchdowns and had 1,687 yards receiving.

Morgan has tried out for four NFL teams since the Talons ended the regular season on July 30.

On Monday, he mulled offers from the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins while flying home from a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs at their training camp in River Falls, Wis.

After landing in Tulsa, Morgan notified his agent that he had conferred with his mother and grand mother and decided to stay with the Talons.

"He said he didn't want to feel like he was abandoning his teammates," agent Martin Prince said.

Prince said the Dolphins and Texans had indicated a willingness to wait on Morgan if the Talons advance to the ArenaCup game on Aug. 27.

But Prince said his client is gambling against an injury that might damage his value, or simply against time. NFL teams have about four weeks until they must cut to their 53-man regular-season roster.

"Every day of training camp he misses is one more day of repetitions that another player is getting," Prince said.

Morgan said he has another timetable.

"Everybody's saying this a chance for me to win (an NFL) spot, but God gave me this ability, and if it's meant for me to win a spot, then I'll win it, regardless of when I go," Morgan said.

Morgan would have required a release from his Talons contract, but that's a formality in the af2 for players of Morgan's stature.

Talons co-owner Paul Ross said Monday that he would gladly grant such a release.

"I'm stunned," said Talons head coach Dave Alexander. "I'm not sure it's the right decision for him, but if he's thought about it and that's what he wants to do, we're excited to have him."

Morgan signed with the New York Jets after his sophomore year at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College in 2003, but sustained a severe elbow injury while relegated to NFL Europe and needed most of 2004 to recover.

He tried out for the Arena Football League's Las Vegas Gladiators in January before landing in Tulsa. Morgan set af2 records for touchdown receptions (54), total TDs (57) and points scored (346) while leading Tulsa to a West Division title and a first-round playoff bye.

Hey guys, I'm from Tulsa and have season tickets for multiple years now to the AF2 team, the Talons. I saw every home game in person, and 1 away game, and Donovan Morgan has some "ups". He's got quite the vertical jump and can go over the top and get the job done. Granted he will see much tougher DB's in the NFL, I hope to see him do good on the Texans squad.

Another Tulsan here... You are going to be very impressed with Morgan that man is a great player with agility, speed, massive vertical skills and a whole lot of heart. He'll go all out all day every play for you guys. I think the fact he had offers in hand from a couple of teams talks about his skills a great deal. I hope he does as well for you all as he has done for us and the Talons... We sure are gonna miss him...

I don't think the wrestler is the same Donovan Morgan. The wrestler's date of birth is 1976.....that would make him almost 30. From what is being said about the football player Morgan, it doesn't seem like he would be that old.

Well, Donovan Morgan just went from AF2 to the NFL. If you will re-read what has already been posted here, you'll find that Morgan had previously signed with the Jets but got injured while in NFL Europe. He was at a community college when he signed with the Jets. After recovering, I guess the Jets didn't think he'd still have 'it' and released him. Morgan then went to the AFL then came to Tulsa.

So it's NOT that the AF2 is for those who don't make AFL. It's just like college is a stepping stone to the NFL. The AF2 is a stepping stone to get to the AFL or, like in Morgan's case, to the NFL.

Why don't you wait to make decisions about Morgan until you actually SEE what he can do.

Sounds like a talented kid, the FO is good about discovering players who play with alot of heart..The Texans seem to have alot of speed at wr's trying to make the cut, good luck to him and may the better hands win!

Was Morgan a good special teams player? If he can't play special teams, his chances is of making the team are slim and none.
