AFC South Vs. NFC West - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

First of all, I'd like to say with training camp less than a week old, to have 12 threads active in the Bull Pen in the last 24 hours....Bravo.

This place is hopping compared to the doldrums of June.
May said doldrums never be seen again until mid-february.

The Local Yokels on our afternoon sports talk show interviewed the play-by-play man for the Seahawks.

This Chump was talking 9-7 and playoffs. And I realized the Texans and the AFC South (until the fall of the Titans, considered in contention for the toughest division of the AFC) would be matching up against the Pitiful NFC West.

I find myself, for the first time ever, planning to watch how the rest of the teams in the Texans division match up against a particular division.

True, the teams of the NFC West have been pretty sad of late. But the Cardinals are the early dark horse for NFL pundits and other funny sounding words for "people who think you should listen to them." And these teams have been pumping early first-round talent into the teams for a few years now. Which at times creates the posibility of dramatic improvement.

Also, it seems like the regular posters to the site are pretty well informed on the current greatness of the Colts and the potential for greatness in the texans and Jags.

Which, I believe, could make an interesting matchup between what could be the two most volatile divisions in all of the NFL.

So I thought I'd put it out there, How do you think the Texans and the AFC South will fare agaisnt the NFC West?

Will it be an fascinating clash between two divisons on the rise?
Or will the AFC South tear through the NFC West like so much tisse paper?

How will the Texans do?
How about the Jags, Titans and Colts?

The Cards, Seahawks, and Rams all look like teams that will finish anywhere from 7-9 to 10-6. The 49ers will be lucky to win 4-5 games.

Compare that to the AFC South. The Colts should win 11-13 games. The Jags and Texans look like they should finish between 8-8 and 10-6. The Titans look like a team destined for about 6 wins.

From that I would guess that the AFC South will win about 9-10 of the 16 games between the two divisions.

I'd say the Colts should roll to a 3-1 record vs the NFC West. Chance for a sweep but I wouldn't bet on it.

The Jags and Texans are good teams that should match up fairly even with the Seahawks and Rams. I'll still put them both at 2-2 though. Outside chance at 3-1.

Titans are in the Cardinals and 49ers league this season. 1-3 would be my prediction.

Overall I think the AFC South goes a nice even 8-8 vs the NFC West. I'm very conservative when it comes to predicting wins against teams I've seen little of. The NFC West doesn't get any airtime in Houston so it's based on lots of reading, previous year stats and offseason moves.

the titans and cardnals are better than most people think. the titans have a 1-2 backfield punch with henry and brown and a decent passing game with mcnair and drew bennett. the cardinals are a young team with one of the best wr tandems in the league. they have arrington who will be solid and a good pash rush which leads to turnovers. cardinals could win their division easily.

Homefield advantage will play a huge role in deciding this. I'm glad the Texans have AZ and STL at home and think we should beat them here in Houston. That really leaves Seattle as the toughest game for the Texans in Seattle.

I'm not sure where the Jags play Seattle, but that's going to be a long flight for someone.

We get Seattle at home to open the season. They should love the 100 degree weather with high humidity coming from the northwest.

Yup, that could help ya. I would call that one as leaning in your favor. Almost a coin toss, but more towards you guys do to homefield.

for My 2 cents, I say:
Texans 3-1 (with overcoming some major challenges).
JAgs 3-1.
Colts 3-1 (with a major breakdown/upset).
Titans 2-2.

AFC 11-5

The Titans look like a team destined for about 6 wins. From that I would guess that the AFC South will win about 9-10 of the 16 games between the two divisions.
