The only thing is I want 1 WR with sprinter speed on the roster next yr.

Don't think Coleman will be there in the 3rd. If he is this pick is a no brainer.

Mixed bag for me BL, while I like Collins, I like Prewitt as well and ranked in second. I would be pleased with Erving in second but a round too high for an Olineman, just my opinion. No way do I go RB after today's performance by Blue and Grimes and our lower rounds have been fruitful for this position.

Now the other half, you are solid on Thomas and Depriest. I would not scream about Wallace but just does not seem to grab my attention. I am ok with Mallett and Savage for now. OO would be a good 7th.

Respect your opinion, but would use the QB and RB picks other positions like WR.

last years WR class was spectacular & Texans choose to address other areas of need. remember too, they have couple flashy wideouts stashed away (Alan Bonner & Uzoma Nwachukwu) then added Damaris Johnson to Keshawn Martin in the slot not to mention still have DeVier Posey. If the right opportunity presented itself, why not, but feel Texans have more speed & talent now than at any time in their history. Coleman is outstanding receiver out of the backfield like Foster, which when Foster is out, a facet of offense they miss most.

What do you mean by enforcer? If you mean Laron Landry... Dante Whitner type enforcer, I'm good with that. If you mean Bernard Pollard, Dj Swag, a biscuit away from being a LB enforcer, I'll pass.

We've yet to see a HC who knows how to manage two RBs. Don't need another to muck it up even more. I like the pick, just don't think our HC/OC knows what to do with a third RB.

I want a Packers/Broncos type WR corps.

Love the CB pick of Thomas. From the highlights that I've seen, Thomas has size, is very fluid and has the SPEED teams secondary seems to be lacking.

Is Thomas capable of playing safety?

I'm not sure what direction Texans will pursue in regards to secondary but upgrading Safety is vital & Landon is clearly the best prospect at position in this years class so why not address it & resign fellow Bama alum Kareem Jackson? Thought Jonathan Joseph played a great game today too, AJ Bouye continues to shine as does this Jumal Rolle kid.

Never too high to select OL who can start. Know where all a little stunned that Jones has not relinquished LG to Su'a-Filo but it will evolve, point is you have to strategically build & develop your OL consistently, especially going with less mobile QB like Mallet. You also know that NFL starting lineman always go higher than you think. Erving gives you bonus has a top developing Center as well OT credentials should position need to be covered in event of injury.

Had to hurry to finish just before start of today s game coming off bye week but feel good about Mallet moving forward, lessening need to take QB higher but still back filling as stated with almost certain departure of Ryan Fitzpatrick after season finished. Hopefully Savage is ready to be the back-up, hence BO is merely a big, strong developing arm in background.

Texans took a real flyer in 7th on Memphis FS Lonnie Ballentine because of his measureables (6-3 219 & running a sub 4.4 forty). Same for Owamagbe Odighizuwa expect him to shake it up pretty good @ the combine & look like even more draft-able prospect. He leads the Bruins in tackles for loss with 7.5 6th in tackles 31 & 2nd in sacks with 3. Has battled though injury's in previous seasons now finally healthy just scratching surface of his talent.

I hope in the future the Texans learn to/can draft into the strength of a draft. I forget who talked about that -- Polian?, Parcells? Whatever, I like the idea. Go with the draft/class/players, not against it.

I'm a firm believer in this.

OL/WR/RB are sthe strengths of this draft. IMHO

There are only 3 LB's that I have a 1st rd grade on and even though this is a big Texans weakness I hope they don't reach for one.

I'm basically a BPA guy.

I've got a couple of OL/QB's/WR's rated over the LB's.

Excluding Shaq Thompson, who I've got in the 5-10 range. He's as good of or better than Mack as a prospect. Dude is a baller.

1. Collins, is a good player but is more of a small LB. He plays the run well but has a weakness in pass coverage. Also I want my 1st round pick to start and think Swearinger and Lewis will be our starting Safeties. Are you demoting Swearinger?
2. Erving, in your mock are we losing Newton to FA? If so I like the pick, if not it seems a little early for O-line depth. Another good player, just confused by the pick.
3. Coleman, another good player but I like my RB's late in the draft as they are quickly replaced and expendable. Foster and Blue have shown there are quality RB's to be found later in the draft. I think O'Brien will follow the Belichick example.
4. Thomas, no arguments here. Fits a definite need with decent quality.
5. DePriest, another strong run defender but weak pass coverage. Most teams seem to throw in this new era NFL more than they run, and what's he bring as a run stuffer that Mohamed, Tarpinian, Tuggle, and Bullough can't provide? Is he fast enough or athletic enough to cover a TE, RB, or drop in zone? Depriest seems like more of a 4-3 MLB than a 3-4 ILB.
6. Wallace, no arguments here either. Decent developmental depth. Hopefully Mallett is the answer.
7. Odig., I know nothing about him.

Just to look at it another way though by going against the draft you can take the best players at other positions while other teams are chasing lesser talent. In 2014 5 WR's were taken in the 1st round and then 6th-12th best WR in the 2nd round. Would you rather have the 10th best WR or the higher ranked OG, C, ILB, Safety, etc... I guess it really all just depends on the players and team needs.

Collins is a solid pass defender for strong safety, of course he solidifies run defense first & foremost. Landon actually leads Alabama with 3 interceptions. Swearinger is a FS, this would allow him to focus more on his coverage assignments.

I would like to see Texans OL continue to get bigger, younger & more talented. I always thought of Erving as a decent OT but because he is a natural knee bender, has excellent hands with long arms, he is focusing on learning craft as Center, telling me he is also very smart & hard worker. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...ter-cameron-erving-helps-florida-st-top-miami

Really like Coleman from first time I watched him play but your right, like to get quality backs late or undrafted for price/value. Just see what 6th rd. pick Alfred Blue did 36 carries chewing up clock 156 yards or New England undrafted free agent RB Jonas Gray 4 TD's 199 yards. Still Foster is enigma, Tevin is a talented all around back both carrying load or receiving in space.

Thomas/Depriest fit in with young players all ready assembled. Depth, talent passion for the game & ability to manage football game planning within structured salary cap for long term. Never can have enough good soldiers. One or both could develop into starters in 2 or 3 years going forward.

I'm not crazy for Bo but has size & arm worth developing. O'Brian likes to develop his own people that doesn't require taking QB early, just a feeling nothing set in concrete, I'm sure if the right player drops, like a Connor Cook, O''Brian could very well select him with that first pick.

Watch UCLA. This guy flashes, he is raw, but you can tell he works at it, very passionate, good teammate & blessed with size/athletic ability.

I'll just preface this by saying that I'm probably the biggest critic against Collins so my opinion is going to be very far from the consensus. But this guy is a two down safety in the NFL. He's a SS who doesn't add anything that Swearinger can't already do. He's also a huge liability in coverage. If we didn't have a SS then I would be okay with this pick. But I hate it for the Texans.

Erving is an okay RT/LG prospect but I think this is at least a round too early. I don't think he'll ever be anything more than an average starter or good depth.

This kid is electric and I don't see him making it out of the second round, much less halfway into the third. Love him as a pro prospect. If you just switched his selection with Erving I would see it as more realistic, but that's just based on my own grading.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said senior Cameron Erving will stay at C.
It is the correct moves, as the Seminoles were consistently giving up pressure in the A and B gaps and seemed to improve in that area against Miami. Despite all of the accolades, Erving was not great at left tackle and might be better suited inside in the NFL. He gets a jump start on that switch. True freshman Roderick Johnson will continue to start at left tackle.

comparing Swearinger = to Collins is laughable, really? I had a third rd. grade on DJ & nothing so far has changed my mind, compared to Landon Collins a consensus top 10 pick who will slide because of concerns you mention but will be gobbled up by secondary needy team in the teens somewhere. Very similar to Kareem in sound tackling physical style of play, he was a 5 star recruit one of the top preps in country & #1 Safety. Surely he is more polished & received comparable as close as can be in College to NFL coaching in a pro style defense. I really don't see much downside, only a solid cog in Texans secondary who fills both short/intermediate routes to run support & all out blitz packages.

I'm intrigued with Erving as Texans next Center, while adding swing tackle depth without tying up a roster spot. Ben Jones has transformed into a solid starting OG so don't see him moving into Center role as I once did. Really liked Ferentz in pre-season but is small & for depth purposes only. Big QB like Mallet would be a great fit with Erving.

I think they have a pretty good idea already, which is why Savage will be the back-up. Resigning Mallet & stashing a good arm on practice squad just part of evolution as all three QB's from last year are gone & next will be Fitz from this year, on the cheap I might add, Bill is proving his worth as QB guru which at one time thought was Kubiak :kubepalm:

Comparable in style of play, not necessarily talent level. They are good at the same things and they have the same weaknesses. I would love to have Collins if we didn't already have Swearinger. I'm not saying they are equal in talent, but the difference in talent is not high enough to warrant an upgrade by first round pick for a guy who has the same limitations in coverage.

In the above write up you could be talking about Mark Barron and nobody would notice the difference. Collins would have been a great NFL safety 15-20 years ago. In today's NFL he is a liability and his strength against the run is not worth his weakness in coverage.

Erving was having a down year at LT and the Noles backup C was struggling terribly. It's the right move to have serving continue at C after the Miami game, as the unit was much more successful with him in that spot. I don't know what that does to his pro posters, but it's the right move for the Noles.
 
Right now I have Landon around #18 on my board so I'm not saying he is a top 10 prospect just saying he is a target right now. Texans looked very good last week against the Browns in Cleveland. If they look as good this weekend against Cincinnati @ home in NRG stadium I think they win! Lot of mocks have them drafting lower than I do but Landon is fair value late teens while upgrading safety position. A big factor too is what happens during off season in regards with Kareem Jackson. Texans should restructure Jonathan Joseph but need replacement for tackling machine KJ. Or just go bigger stronger in secondary. :inneganned:

"NFL teams want their safeties to be able to play special teams. They want to see a safety who can break down in space and tackle people, and Collins has shown he's excellent at that." On the more traditional side of things, Collins' interception in the game was a case of being in the right place at the right time. Jeremiah wrote that "I don't think [Collins is] someone a defense is going to want to match up in man coverage on a down-by-down basis. Not a secret anymore, now top 100? that's what is being said of Odighizuwa.

His name may be hard to say (pronounced Oh-wah-MAH-bay Oh-DIGGY-zoo-wah) but for Southern Cal right tackle Zach Banner, Odighizuwa was even harder to block. Banner, the 6-foot-8, 350 pound son of former Los Angeles Raider Lincoln Kennedy, signed with USC amid much fanfare. Banner is so gifted he's already generating buzz as a potential early entry into the NFL, perhaps as soon as 2015.

Despite the fact that Odighizuwa was giving up 80 pounds to his opponent, the UCLA defender frequently stood up Banner at the line of scrimmage, including on a failed 4th and two early in the second quarter.

Rather than take an easy field goal to narrow UCLA's lead to 14-10, USC head coach Steve Sarkisian opted to challenge the Bruins' talented but inconsistent defensive line. Sarkisian called for Buck Allen run behind Banner. While certainly imposing, it takes Banner an extra half-second to get all that mass moving. Odighizuwa used his advantage in quickness and leverage to stand Banner up at the line of scrimmage and UCLA's fast-flowing linebackers stopped Allen for no gain.

On their next trip to the red zone - early in the second quarter - they tried running behind Banner again. Odighizua once again set the edge, creating the pile that stopped Allen for no-gain.

Given his advantage in quickness, perhaps it wasn't surprising to see Odighizuwa also beat Banner as a pass rusher. He didn't rely on speed to the outside, however, instead beating Banner inside with good initial quickness and a powerful bull rush.

It wasn't just Banner that struggled with Odighizuwa. When the muscle-packed defensive lineman moved inside, he quickly slipped past USC's guards, registering one sack in the third quarter and nearly recording another a series later. When he flipped sides, his quickness and a powerful slap challenged USC's left tackle Toa Lobendahn.

Odighizuwa, who started six games for the Bruins back in 2010 (but only two the past three years), is enjoying a breakout campaign that could have the No. 21 defensive end on NFLDraftScout.com's board moving up quickly. He missed all of last season after undergoing surgery on his hip and entered Saturday night's game with 45 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

He doesn't possess the explosive burst off the edge or nifty change of direction expected of a first round pick. He does, however, possess the stout frame, quickness and power valued by clubs operating out of each alignment.

That position and scheme versatility could land Odighizuwa a spot within the first 100 picks of the 2015 draft and certainly qualifies him as one of the feel-good stories of the year.

I don't understand the urge to draft a developmental QB every year generally but particularly don't see it for the Texans this year. Either Mallett will be gone and we'll use a higher pick or he is here and we'll have 2 QBs with 7 starts between them and I would expect any 3rd QB to be a vet.

Totally agree. The only way I see us taking a QB this year is with a higher pick than the one we just used on Savage.

Not going to argue common sense. What I am laying out is if in fact, Bill O'Brian is a QB guru & has special eye for identifying/developing QB's why not? This does represent plus value, maybe turn for future "higher pick" built leverage for negotiation process & add insurance. Even if Texans don't draft a QB (Bo may not even be drafted) I firmly believe Bill will at the very least sign un-drafted QB for reps & practice arm to keep starters fresh while working out WR's/TE's.

Or we still haven't found what we're looking for?

I've decided, I want the Texans to give Mallett a chance.

Rd.1 DeVante Parker.
Rd.2 Ty Sambraillo or Erving
Rd.2 Kendricks with a trade up
Rd.5 Trevone Boykin

I would be very happy with this Texans draft.

It's been a while sir. Time for me to jump back in the fray.

1. I am concerned with Collins. He seems to be too much like a Bernard Pollard type of Saftey. The Texans already have DJ Swearinger in that spot. As great a hitter as Pollard is, he gets burned frequently in the pass game. I think the same would happen to Collins.

2. He is a very good RB. However, I am concerned with grabbing RBs this high in the draft. While he certainly has talent, lots of good RBs can be attained later in the draft. For example, last year Bishop Sankey, Jeremy Hill, and Carlos Hyde were 2nd round RBs. I would have preferred Andre Williams in the 4th.

3. A very good center prospect. Is a bit smaller. Can he handle the bigger NT/DTs he would face? That's my only question mark on him. Can his body handle an extra 10 pounds of muscle? I imagine Kelly would love to get him in Philly. If you want him, you may have to trade back into the second.

4. I really like Thomas. Has the capacity to play outside CB, nickel CB, or FS. Very good selection. The DB need some help and Thomas would certainly help immediately.

5. I could see him get as high as the 2nd round. That said, he is a great prospect with a lot of potential. Seems like a hard worker and would fit with most teams. Can't argue this one.

6. Reminds me too much of Garrett Gilbert. He has been able to pick apart marginal teams but struggles against the big boys. I'd rather have Savage.

7. Great player, but the second coming of Dante Hall/Brian Mitchell/Devin Hester would be able to do much with the Texans special teams coverage units. Need to fix that side IMO.

1. Collins, I don't understand this pick for the Texans. We need more pass coverage not a liability in the secondary. With a lack of coverage skills, I think he drops on draft day.
2. Coleman, I like the player but don't like spending a high pick on RB, get one in the 5th-7th rounds.
3. Grasu, I'm not familiar with him, what's the injury, all I'm finding is left leg injury? Seems light weight, if he can add 10-15 lbs. of muscle and handle the big NT's of the NFL then ok. I like the idea of a pick that can play OG and C.

5. Odig, his size seems like a tweener DE/OLB. Is he going to lose weight, gain speed and play OLB, or is he going to add weight and muscle to play 3-4 DE? Size alone seems like a 4-3 DE.
6. Wallace, I've got to agree with Bah007, we don't need another project QB.
7. Alford, no problem here. Probably competes for depth at WR/KR or makes the PS.

Everybody feels Collins will fall, so do I which is why he is still available when Texans select.

Coleman is a workhorse back that allows Texans to move on post Foster era being held hostage with all these game time decisions ruled out. Its unsettling to me & as good of player as Arian is I'm sick & tired of it, enough already.

What is the most important facet of a great centers toolbox? Character? Toughness? Intelligence? Leadership? Athletic ability? Size? Quickness? Intangibles? Hroniss Grasu has them all in spades, he should be a second round pick but because he plays center & got dinged up with undisclosed leg injury his grade is affected. He would be Texan future starting Center post Chris Myers, rock of consistency & professionalism. Would trade Texans 1st & 2nd, keep 3rd then trade rest to move up for his QB, Marcus Mariota, that would be epic.

Just finished watching tape of USC UCLA game, lot of talent both sides. USC OL young but high upside. Like USC Center Max Tuerk, Junior 6-5 290, like size/wingspan weight comes with time as we all know. If Texans pass on addressing Center, see what happens with Myers or Jones going forward I'd be fine with taking him next season in 3rd. Odighizuwa looked like a DE who fits in a 4-3 that kicks inside out. Also beneficiary of stellar play from legit DT Kenny Clark, 6-3 315 looks like a bull @ nose but only a sophomore. Very good prospect to follow. Can't say enough about sophomore OLB Myles Jack. NFL talent ready now, think Mack with plus coverage skill & playmaking ability.

Oregon will face toughest test of year & rightfully so to stay in top four when they face UCLA in Pac12 Championship!

Bama DBs have been overdrafted and overrated in the NFL. I don't know why, maybe because Saban does such a good job scheming to hide their weaknesses? I'm not down with drafting one in the 1st round, or spending a lot to keep Jackson, for that matter.
