Default Question for Texan fans

alright I want to know the facts about this. The OL? you guys have chester pitts, wade, McKinney, wiegert, and wand I wanted to know your grade for them as a lineman and just a little bit about them and if you like them or not because I don't know much about the line but the only positive thing I've heard about any lineman was that Todd Wade was big, wade #71 right?

Default Horrible O LIne

I must say the one mistake the Texans made was not takin a decent center in the draft, or signing a free agent Tackle. :brickwall

You haven't even seen Hodgdon take a snap and already you're writing him off as not being a "decent center"! Man, I'm glad i'm not a player around here. Can't you feel the love????

I've read quite a bit about Hodgdon and have decided that he might be the
real sleeper for us in this years draft. First off, he's not real big but rated
as fairly quick and considered very good in blocking LBs. OK, since we're not
going against any 3-4 Ds in our own division (the place where it counts the most - we play each of them twice a year), he won't be asked to go head on
against a huge Nose Tackle where size would be real important for a center but will instead be uncovered much of the time and be blocking LBs or helping with stunts - another area where he excels. Also, in his sophomore year he was voted his schools (Arizina State) best OL. But that was when he played Right Guard. So he's obviously versatile. Then his junior year he switched to and started at center, but when he came back his senior year
he suffered a broken foot in Training Camp. But he bounched back from that
and was playing and starting at center in like the 2nd or 3rd game of the year. Many guys miss the whole year from a broken bone in the foot !
To sum it up, we obviously have a tremendous competitor here who never
quits, and he's also very versatile. And one more thing that's very significant -
last his play was highly rated against 2 Dlineman (Patterson USC and Castillo NW) who went in tfhe first round in this years draft and most feel that perfformance against strong matchups is the best indicator about one's potential to succeed in the NFL. So I think we got a lot of value for a 5th rounder !

I’ll play too…

Seth Wand
- Solid run blocker. Good feet, and has long arms to be an ideal LT. Looked like a project at times last year. Expected.
Chester Pitts - Dominant Run blocker and a solid pass protector at LT. At Guard he struggled but to be fair to Pitts he never played G in his life. Not sure it’s his best position.
Steve McKinney – Finesse Center who has trouble with physical players. He does a good job most of the time but gets flat out beat way too much.
Zach Weigert – above average run blocker, not so good in pass protections…but not a liability if he has some consistant play on either side of him.
Todd Wade – Above average run blocker who struggles at times in pass protection

I'd add that Wand and Pitts were durable last year. Wade and Weigert were both slowed by nagging injuries. Weigert's age/health may be becoming an issue.

Seth Wand - C - good run blocker who stuggles in pass protection when given no help.
Chester Pitts - C+ - good in pass protection, but above average as a run blocker.
Steve McKinney - C- - an average center who can't hold up against big DTs in the league.
Zach Weigert - C+ - can hold his own when he is healthly, which isn't often.
Todd Wade - B - most complete lineman on the team, a mauler in the running game.

I hope that those of you who have been so critical of Seth Wand and, to a lesser degree, Chester Pitts will be willing to retract your remarks about these two on this board if they play well this year. I guess the whole idea of being patient with a player who is changing positions or starting for the first time is difficult for some people to grasp.

I expect Seth Wand and Chester Pitts to play well this year, and to be assets to the team in no uncertain terms.

For the record, if they play badly for this year, I will retract my remarks on this board.
