Here's a look at the Texans' first unofficial depth chart.

Quote:
What everyone is interested in, Kicking. Randy Bullock listed ahead of Chris Boswell on the depth chart. #Texans

Keshawn Martin is listed as DeAndre Hopkins backup. Don't buy it! Mike Thomas is 3rd behind Andre Johnson and DeVier Posey. #Texans

Will Yeatman is listed as the backup LT and Tyson Clabo as the backup RT. Matt Feiler is listed as 3rd string RT, despite playing mostly LT

Interesting to see that David Quessenberry is listed as the 3rd LT, despite being out with Illness. Answers the question on if he's an OT.

Jerrell Powe, Ricardo Mathews, Austin Brown, David Hunter the order of NTs with Nix still out. #Texans

Tim Jamison listed as backup RDE behind JJ Watt. Keith Browner backup LDE behind Crick. Pagan 3rd LDE, Warmsley 3rd RDE. #Texans

Brian Cushing is still on the active PUP and in parenthesis #Texans

Justin Tuggle (MIKE) & Jeff Tarpinian (WILL) starting ILBs. Bullough backup MIKE, Mohamed backup WILL. Dent 3rd WILL, Terrance Lloyd 3rd Mik

Keo backup SS behind DJ Swearinger and Eddie Pleasant 3rd string #Texans

Kendrick Lewis ahead of Chris Clemons at FS. Brandon Harris backup CB to Joseph at RCB, Bouye backup LCB behind Kareem. #Texans

Quentin Groves 3rd string JACK, Lawrence Sidbury 3rd string SAM #Texans

#Texans depth Chart: Brooks SOLB, Jadeveon Clowney JackOLB, Mercilus behind Clowney, Ankrah behind Reed

#Texans release unofficial depth chart: RBs - 2-Andre Brown, 3-Dennis Johnson & Tim Cornett 4-Alfred Blue & Jonathan Grimes

What's the news on this Alex Kupper.

I know he was a walk-on at Louisville. A solid starter for them playing Center and left OT. A strong work ethic. Went undrafted. Was ranked so low among offensive linemen I find no draft profile. Was signed by the Texans and made it through until the final cuts when he was released. Resigned late in the season. I don't believe he had any playing time.

6'-3" and about 300 lbs.

With Brandon Brooks out, he's now #1 at RG on this first depth chart. I guess he's had a good camp, although his competition is not all that great.

To change the subject a bit, I'm a bit intrigued by this Sam Longo. Incredibly strong upper body strength. Decent arm length and hand size. His rep is that his strength is run blocking. It's going to be hard for him to catch up, coming in this late. But I'd like some camp updates from those of you who get to the practices. What chance has he in moving up the depth chart?

Not hearing great things about Kupper. Longo, we'll see.

Myers on the Sirius NFL channel was talking about how good Kupper was looking. What was he supposed to say? I wonder how Kupper looks vs XSF?

5 looks too low after last night's debacle. There are not 53 legit NFL players on this roster. The lackluster drafting over the past few years have left the Texans with little depth. It shows. A really good QB could mask some of these problems. Where can you get one of those?

Yeah, doing mock trades using that online tool I kept wanting about 8 more than the 11 picks we had. It was obvious to me then the roster turnover was going to be big.

I certainly think we'll be exercising our waiver wire option often as teams cut to 53.

DeAndre Hopkins doesn't run a good pass pattern. If he were where he's supposed to be occasionally, I wouldn't be so butt hurt. But he isn't, and I am.

Ironically despite all the talk about us having no depth at ILB, I think we do have some nice guys back there that could help a healthy Brian Cushing out.

I can't tell if the Offensive line is trash and that it is causing bad QB play or if the bad QB play is causing the offensive line to look like trash. There isn't a lot of solid depth behind Ben Jones, who actually seems more likely to be a starter now then the rookie Su'a Filo at LG.

I've been rooting for B. Harris since we drafted him but son is looking like he is going to play himself off the team with the penalties and bad mistakes, Bouye, Mack and Hal look far more solid which makes Harris expendable. Especially given how unsure I think we are at who among out safeties outside of Swearinger is capable of being quality.

Rick Smith is the only 2013 guy to be retained by 9-7-14. Texans still suck and no one knows why.

Not a big fan of Mercilus, but I don't think we'd whack him yet. Groves isn't any better, imo

Texans’ 53-man roster projection 2.0/Zangaro
Here we go:

Quote:
QB (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, Tom Savage

RB (3): Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes

FB (1): Jay Prosch

WR (5): Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, DeVier Posey, Keshawn Martin, Mike Thomas

TE (3): Garrett Graham, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Ryan Griffin

OL (9): Duane Brown, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Chris Myers, Brandon Brooks, Will Yeatman, Derek Newton, Ben Jones, Alex Kupper, Tyson Clabo

P (1): Shane Lechler

K (1): Randy Bullock

LS (1): Jon Weeks

These three should be back for 2014. Bullock beats out Chris Boswell for the kicker job.

DL (7): J.J. Watt, Jared Crick, Louis Nix III, Ricardo Mathews, Tim Jamison, Jerrell Powe, Jeoffrey Pagan

OLB (4): Jadeveon Clowney, Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus, Jason Ankrah

ILB (5): Brian Cushing, Jeff Tarpinian, Mike Mohamed, Justin Tuggle, Max Bullough

CBs (5): Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brandon Harris, Andre Hal, A.J. Bouye

S (4): D.J. Swearinger, Chris Clemons, Kendrick Lewis, Shiloh Keo

Looking at that I wish we could find a way to keep one more WR (maybe two). So much talent going to be sent packing at that position. Why can't we just kick Keo and Brandon Harris to the curb and keep Travis Labhart and EZ. We could just call them CB's.

Really, who would notice? If we get to where we have to put Keo and Harris on the field then the peanut vendor stands just as good a chance of altering the outcome as either one of those guys.

I still don't think our #2 QB is currently on the roster. I think we'll have a new QB to fill the spot by the time week 1 rolls around. McGroin, Mallet or another QB that has been in a similar system.

Savage hasn't proven to be worthy of an NFL roster spot, much less a #2. Keenum shows a flash, then poops the bed.

First, the dude only picked 52. I'll fix that for him and call our opening day roster (or does Q count against our 53?).

Offense:

QB (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, Tom Savage

RB (3): Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes

FB (1): Jay Prosch

WR (6): Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, DeVier Posey, Keshawn Martin, Mike Thomas, Travis Labhart

TE (3): Garrett Graham, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Ryan Griffin

OL (9): Duane Brown, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Chris Myers, Brandon Brooks, Will Yeatman, Derek Newton, Ben Jones, Alex Kupper, James Ferentz

P (1): Shane Lechler

K (1): Randy Bullock

LS (1): Jon Weeks

Defense:

DL (7): J.J. Watt, Jared Crick, Louis Nix III, Ricardo Mathews, Tim Jamison, Jerrell Powe, Jeoffrey Pagan

OLB (4): Jadeveon Clowney, Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus, Jason Ankrah

ILB (5): Brian Cushing, Jeff Tarpinian, Justin Tuggle, Max Bullough, Akeem Dent

CBs (5): Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brandon Harris, Andre Hal, A.J. Bouye

S (4): D.J. Swearinger, Chris Clemons, Kendrick Lewis, Eddie Pleasant

We might be looking at keeping someone like Elbert Mack for a 6th DB, by dropping an ILB like Dent. Or, because our safeties are so horrible, perhaps adding Keo back in the mix at least gives us a Special Teams guy (see Eddie Pleasant).

You only need one swing tackle and that's Yeatman. If you don't want to add an extra safety or CB then you go with that 4th TE in Zach Potter, yet if you don't carry Potter there is always Anthony Denham to bring up from the practice squad because of an injury.

I see guys like Ballentine, Bester, Mike Farrell and EZ on the practice squad. Something similar to that PS roster. Pick 'em.
