Default One sided draft?

I think most agree that we're in rebuilding mode, not reloading contrary to what McNair thinks, and that this will probably take 2-3 yrs.. Just in time for Super Bowl LI in 2017 in Houston Texas. Would you be willing to do a one sided draft to fix at least one side of the ball, provided we have a great draft and this looks like a really deep one, instead of doing a patchwork on both sides of the ball that really won't fix anything. 4 options:

1. All offense draft that fixes our O-line, and QB while adding depth to our TE's, WR's, and RB's. Possibly even finding Fosters future replacement. This would mean rolling with what we've got for a year on defense though. Fewer but more important holes on offense means a better fix and future depth.

2. All defense draft that fixes our D-line, LB corps. (front 7), while adding depth to our CB's and upgrading our Safeties. This would mean finding a cheap FA QB or rolling with what we've got for a year on offense though. More holes thus more need, and we could fix the offense in 2015 when there's a better selection of QB's to choose from.

3. A normal draft that tries to spread the picks around filling a few holes but fixing nothing, it's a patchwork with all the holes we have.

4. A trade down picking up even more 2nd and 3rd round picks to really add great depth to either side of the ball.

Example on Offense: It doesn't have to be these players specifically, you can use your own favorites, but you get the idea.
1. Teddy Bridgewater-QB
2. Austin Seferian-Jenkins-TE
3. Brandon Thomas-OG/OT
4. JaWaun James-OT
5. Andre Williams-RB
5b. Storm Johnson-RB
6. Cody Latimer-WR
7. Justin Britt-OT

Example on Defense:
1. Jadeveon Clowney-OLB
2. Stephon Tuitt-DE
3. Telvin Smith-OLB/ILB
4. DaQuan Jones-NT
5. Kenny Ladler-FS
5b. Phillip Gaines-CB
6. Ross Cockrell-CB
7. DeAndre Coleman-DT/DE

If I had to pick the best way for the Texans to win games as soon as possible I would focus on the weakest side of the ball. If you want to win 8 games next yr this is the draft.

Rd.1 Robinson
Rd.2 Trade for Mallet
Rd.3 JuWaun James
Rd.4 Robert Herron
Rd.5 A.C. Leonard
Rd.6 Matt Patchan
Rd.7 Damien Williams.

The Texans may not have speed on defense with this draft. But the offensive side of the ball just gained some dangerous weapons. All of these guys can run.

I agree, more or less. I'd also go offense first. It's a QB driven league, he plays on offense.... so I'd start on offense, even if our QB isn't a "franchise" QB, stacking that side of the ball with talent can only help whoever we put back there.

You know I'm not big on drafting a QB in the top 5 this year, but if we invest that much in our offense, I wouldn't cry about that draft either. Especially since you got my man Andre Williams in there.

And I'm one of those who would lean heavily defense in the draft, although I'd address the offense at a few positions in the back half of the draft. I think the defensive front seven is where it all begins, so I'd draft:

1-1.....OLB, Khalil Mack (I'd prefer to trade down 4 or 5 spots, but not counting on it to happen).
2-33...DE, Stephon Tuitt
3-65...ILB, Yawin Smallwood/Shayne Skov (one of these two should be there)
4-97...RT, Ja'Wuann James
5-129..NT, Ryan Carrethers
5-S.....RB, Tyler Gaffney (I'd go running back here. There's a group that should be available; in addition to Gaffney: Jerick McKinnon, Marion Grice, Lorenzo Taliaferro)
6-161..QB, Keith Wenning, Tom Savage
7-193..?

Default Re: One sided draft?

For Offense:

1. Sammy Watkins, WR -- Making our WR corp potent.
2. Antonio Richardson, OT -- Shoring up our line.
3. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB -- Getting a possible starter
4. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE -- Adding a better blocker to the TE corps.
5. Lache Seastrunk, RB -- Getting a backup to Arian.
6. Brandon Linder, OG -- Didn't look good at the Senior Bowl or Combine but he was productive in school. Probably won't play.
7. Nate Freese, K -- Just for the hell of it.

For Defense:

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB -- He scares me.
2. Ra'Shede Hageman, DT -- I don't know if he'll be there but I think this would be a score.
3. Shane Skov, ILB -- Someone good to pair-up with Cush
4. Victor Hampton, CB -- Rough and needs some work but he could be a good addition.
5. Antone Exum, DB -- CB in college, probably a Safety. Would be a nice addition.
6. Brent Urban, DE -- In some boards, he's not available here. But in one he is, so I'm going to nab him. He'd probably be starting by the time the season rolled around.
7. Khairi Fortt, OLB

I'm really liking that offensive one.

I'm not generally a offense guy but I can see a great run game getting going with that draft.

It seems some of you would be open minded to a one sided draft. Personally I'd go with an all defense draft, fix that side of the ball since there seems to be so much good defensive talent in this draft, and then go all offense in 2015 when there are better QB's from which to pick. Right now I think the defense is in worse shape than the offense and thus needs alot more help. Of course the opposite could be said as well, that the offense needs less fixing thus it would be a much easier and quicker fix while also adding some really good depth.
