Default The NFL’s New Dirty Player… Ndamukong Suh?

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/1...a-dirty-player

Quote:
While his talent is undeniable and his fury a good thing, he hasn't learned to properly harness that aggression. It spills out at times uncontrollably and it's only a matter of time before Suh is suspended and his reputation morphs into something not so positive.

In fact, I think that is already happening. I can tell you the league is watching Suh's behavior extremely closely. If it continues he's going to be hit with a much more massive fine. That's a guarantee.

The latest incident with Suh came against the Patriots. It was a brutal game featuring a few skirmishes. Patriots guard Logan Mankins was involved in a beef with a Lions player when Suh approached Mankins and threw a punch. It connected.

He should have been tossed but the game official missed it. Replays clearly showed the punch. How an official could miss a man the size of mobile home throwing a punch is a mystery.

On Twitter, Lions fans showed their smallness by saying Suh was justified throwing the punch because he was defending a teammate. That's part of The Danny Ainge Syndrome. If you were a Celtics fan when Ainge was in Boston, you loved him. If he was an opponent, you thought he was cheap. So I understand that phenomenon and it's happening with Suh.

There's still no excusing what he did. It was totally a punk move and there's little doubt the NFL is going to fine Suh.
ESPN Radio has been harping this and most fans seem to be laughing at them.

Dude plays like a D-Lineman should and he is a dirty player. He protects his teammate who is getting dragged around by his facemask and he is a dirty player…

The offense-first mentality that the NFL has been running on for a decade is starting to get old.

I heard someone talking about him the other day...... NFLN, or ESPN, I can't remember.

What they said (whoever they were) made sense.

He's changing the mindset in Detroit... he's changing the minds of what people expect out of Detroit...

He's Ray Lewis.

He does need to be careful though.

It really doesn't matter if we or ESPN think of him as dirty...it does if Roger Goodell though. Then every extra oopmh he puts into a tackle will be looked at with suspicious eyes and he'll be sitting out games for being a hard hitter like Harrison does.

Suh being able to draw the line will be the biggest thing or him though...

But man, that dude is a monster...

Yeah, I see a slippery slope coming. This game is a FULL CONTACT SPORT, correct? At the same time being a "I am my brother's keeper" mentality kinda thing. There's a reason Suh was drafted where he was. Certainly it's because of his play making abilities but at the same time he was drafted as a leader and he's become that in short order and doing a dang good job with it. While "punching" per se shouldn't be condoned, what if he'd just given the offender a 'shiver' that put him on his backside in a convincing manner. Would that draw the ire of the league as well?

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run. Personally I think Suh did what any other team mate would have/should have done.

Thoughts?

Here. Looked like Suh was trying to breakup the altercation between Mankins and Jackson. At first, Suh pushes Mankins. Next, he gives Mankins a push to the facemask. It didn't look like Mankins thought he had been punched.

Now this is a punch.

Dude's a beast, period. He'll soon be the best DT in the league, if he isn't already. I think he'll eventually tone down the emphasis he currently finishes tackles with

You could see that side at Nebraska. You just knew he was going to be special. I think he could possibly become the best DT of all time.

yeah, I wish some of his 'dirt' would rub off on Mario. Hopefully JJ can roll around in the mud and get 'dirty', too.

The term "dirty", to me at least, implies intent. I think Suh plays hard and plays through the whistle. But, dude is not like Romanowski who intentionally tried to injure opponents.

I have no problem with Suh playing "dirty". I see that as a good quality in a DT.

Hell, most O-Linemen play dirty anyways, so I would want my monster DT to do the same.

Count me as saying the Suh critics are full of horsecrap.

The guy is getting flak for nothing. Correction: He's getting flak because people don't have the Lions to joke about anymore. People like to have their same whipping post every year, and the Lions said "To hell with drafting a flunky WR every year. We're going DEFENSE, and we're going big."

Good for them.

Unfortunately, if they ever DO get over the top...they'll be even more obnoxious as Saints fan are right now. Detroit has been in the doghouse so long, that the day they get a Penthouse Suite will make them unbearable for about a decade afterward.
