Add to the list:

3) Terrible at picking up blitzers. 4) Quite a few fumbles.

With that said, best of luck to him wherever he lands.

Meh, there's bad luck and there's injury prone. To me, nagging hamstrings, recurring back injuries, constant ankle sprains, etc. are signs of a player being injury prone. Tate's had three injuries that caused him to miss time. Two of them involved broken bones and another had the muscle torn away from the bones. It's not like he was running down the field and tripped over a yard line and fell down grabbing the back of his leg.

The only question I've had about the Texans next running back is why is it so hard to get him on the field. We've gone through a bunch of guys, like Forsette & Deji... we went after them for a reason, but unless we had no other option, there was no way either was going to see the field.

& it's worse for guys we "feel good" about. Cierre Wood beat out Deji & Dj.... but couldn't get on the field. Tate's got broken ribs & Dj only gets the ball when Tate needs a breather. HE'S GOT 4 BROKEN RIBS... HELLO

If Rick Smith is still around we'll be alright finding talented runners. Hopefully the next regime will at least get them on the field before shuffling them off.

I don't know. "Wishy-washy" to me infers dispassionate when the chips are down and fired up when things are going well. Houston football fans have always been very passionate about football - to a fault, in the case of the Oilers.
I think a better word, a more accurate word, would have been "bandwagon". And you know we gotz LOTS of them kind around Houston. Rockin' with the team when we were making the playoffs and then turning on them and dogging them out (not to mention burning jerseys) when things went south this year.

You know the kind with the shiny, new J.J.Watt jersey but couldn't tell you anyone else (besides maybe Ninja) on the D-line. I know I've seen plenty of them. Bet you have too.

That's how I took Tate's statement. So given that interpretation, I agree with him.

Yes he has a bit of a injury history, but to me a lot of that is just bad luck, certainly can't hold it against him on a personal level. It's ok to want players with constant injuries gone ( it's all about winning ). But as a tough ass human being I think we should all be proud he represented Texans, thank you Mr Tate..
Agreed. Best of luck, Ben

Last several games, we never left the back in the backfield. We never threw the ball to him either, but we never left him for pass blocking either.

& still. Other teams get their running backs in the game much quicker than we do. I understand most teams don't have a Foster, but damn near 400 carries in a year? Tate got all the carries & he had 4 broke ribs. He shouldn't be blocking any body.

I respect what he did playing hurt and all, and I think he will make a good, not great starting RB for another team. The whole wishy-washy thing just put him on my sh!t list though. So, Ben dont let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Dude rubbed me the wrong way off the field. I'm happy it's likely he won't be back with us.

Just hope Arian can come back and be what he is and we can find another gem to back him up.

I understand your perspective, but I do not feel inclined to give my fellow Houstonians a free pass.

The year after the 12-4 Oilers? This city set NFL low attendance records.

Sure, Bud was fire-selling the team (like he said he would before the implementation of the salary cap), but fans completely quit on a team that had just went to 7 straight playoffs. One of the reasons why those teams were so loaded with talent is because Bud was paying for the moment and did not plan ahead. It was win now, and he spent the money to get the talent.

Granted, they choked like no other, but if we can just keep quantifying the reasons why Houstonians go hot and cold on teams it just prove my point.

But, I can tell you straight up when I truly realized it: 2005, when the Texans had their first 2-14 season. I still had season tickets and was delusional enough to be "hardcore" about staying for every second of that excruciating season. It does not make me better than the next guy, but it does give me the insight to see a completely empty Reliant in the 3rd and 4rth quarters of many of those games. When the clock hit 0:00 at the end of some of those games, I have no doubt less than 3000 people were left inside. Even the Bull Pen was empty. All the folks wearing costumes? GONE.

This city can be as rabid and passionate as anyone...when the team is winning. People come out of the woodworks for winning Houston teams like they have a lifelong passion on fire.

But, many of us know better. I am not seeing any Texans gear being worn like it was last year this time. And since I still wear my crap (since it seems to be about 50% of my wardrobe), I get all kinds of sarcastic BS thrown my way. I'm shopping last week, and some dude asked if I was still "holding out hope". For what???! I'm a freakin' Texans fan, good, bad, or whatever. GTFO as far as I'm concerned about fans like that.

But there are only a handful of folks like me, many of them on this board (I consider all of you hardcore Texans fans, tbh), but we do not represent a majority in Houston, Texas.

Anyway, Tate was just responding to a moment in time, not the lifelong experiences that I'm talking about. And guys like Watt and AJ backed him up. I think JJ wanted to sucker punch anyone that was booing.

Like I said, though, I don't take emotional comments to heart. Houston is what it is, and it is my home. It's either a hometown advantage "house of pain" or an apathetic "house of disdain". Collectively a multi-personality fan base going back many decades (Pastorini and Moon both got boo'ed on the field like Schaub, fwiw).

Unless it was pre-season with my kids, I have yet to leave a game early and I'm smack in the middle of the aforementioned Bull Pen.

I know what you speak of however. It gets damn lonely when there's nobody home. I had a hard time blaming anyone from leaving when the wheels fell off and we were down more than 2 TDs going into the 4th though.

A large part of this is that Houston is a "melting pot" of a city. We don't have generations raised as die hard Houston Football Fans. Kids are raised as Steeler fans, or Packer fans, Bear fans....

We are just starting to grow into a NFL city. Traditions will come someday, but it's gonna be awhile. Luv Ya Blue era showed what this city could be, this year showed what it still is.

lol! yeah, not trying to ruffle any feathers. With the awesome tailgate that y'all have always had, we could never blame you for leaving such bad games to go have some fun in the parking lot.

We always got seat upgrades during those games, many times right after halftime. We'd just mosey ourselves to entire rows of empty seats on the front rows of the 500 levels.

yep, I agree completely. I'm certainly not trying to disrespect our fanbase, but just trying to analyze it objectively in order to understand the "why" behind it all.

Right now I've been reading about the rather schizophrenic nature of the early Oilers and I'm starting to see into the souls of early football fans in Houston (obviously before my time). This city had a very strange relationship with a very strange football team owned by a very strange man. Almost like your first girlfriend being a professional 'working girl' and how that would taint your perspective for the rest of your life.

The lack of NFL championships in the past half a century hasn't helped us at all. At least those Houston fans with dual-citizenship as Cowboys fans got some good vibes by osmosis over the years from that yankee team.

To call out a teams fans for the bandwagon fans, is just a classless move IMO.

Name ANY team that DOESN'T gain bandwagon fans in ANY sport.

If he has SUCH a problem with "wishy washy fans", he shouldn't collect a fat pay check. In fact, he should avoid all competitive sports, playing and watching altogether.

Good luck finding your utopia of a bandwagon free fanbase.
