The Texans not having the money and not being able to sell everything to get Manning are two differnet things. Denver didnt have to go on a sellathon so their risk was less than that of the Texans
I think we can agree that the Texans on the field product always has been and is right now far from this Ferrari you speak of.

This really came down to would you rather spend some cap $$$$ on Schaub vs spending more cap $$$$$. BoB chose to spend less on Schaub. (Shocking) The Texans are where they are today because of these decisions made by BoB.

Man, the Texans are so stupid. They could've drafted Russell Wilson in the 2nd round of 2012!!

The Texans didn't have the cap room to sign Manning and if they did the team would have been gutted to do it. The fact that Manning hadn't been cleared to throw yet is another issue. It would have been hard for me to give a guy 90 million and you couldn't even see if he could throw the football. Yes, I know it worked out for Denver but the Texans were already a playoff team and a move like that backfiring in their faces could have set them back years.

Honestly, I think it's really simple. Kubiak would not give up the kind (and amount) of control that Manning demands.

All the other details do not matter if the head coach is against the decision.

It's just really absurd that an NFL head coach would be stupid enough to say they don't want Peyton Manning because they'd have to let him call audibles.

I believe that's what happened, but it really is ridiculous. Hey, we should fire that guy!

that's just the typical response of posters who were flat out wrong about peyton and were on board the schaub express.

That plus being content with Schaub. Kubiak has always been loyal to a fault, and I think sticking with Schaub, and giving big contracts to Foster and Myers were more important than even entertaining the thought of Manning. Foster was still an Exclusive Rights Free Agent, and really had no business being given a 40m dollar deal, but Rick promised to take care of him, so they did. Made his cap figure go from about 500k to 7m that year.

The Texans only needed to cut Schaub and not give a big contract to either Foster or Myers in order to make a competitive offer for Peyton. No we could not go as high as 20m a year as the Broncos did, but we could have been in the 16-18 range.
