Default Re: New HC candidates

While watching these important end of season College Football plus firing of Gary Kubiak I would be more in favor of an experienced, brilliant College Head Coach with proven track records for turning around programs.

That being said I was impressed with interview & then on field coaching of Michigan State HC Mark Dantonio. In 7 years with Spartans he has molded them into the #1 ranked defensive team in the country & Michigan States first Rose Bowl in 26 years. Good evaluator of talent, good staff sound in all phases, 33 years of College Coaching experience, no NFL but see no reason why he couldn't? Like his character, disciplined team, makes good adjustments & clock management.

As I make my plans to go to the Rose Bowl, I have to say no to this. Dantonio is a Spartan, and has certain goals he wants to accomplish.

I freely admit to wanting him fired last year. Glad we're going to the Rose Bowl, but, it's taken Danronio way too long to get it together.

And: he knows very little about offense, and seems overly loyal.

Does it seem like more than a coincidence that McNair surprisingly fired Kubiak before the end of the season... Then, we discover that Sumlin has yet to sign his contract? I think Sumlin is a serious candidate and likely a reason for the firing... After all, no NFL team is hiring right now. Also, no coaches with NFL jobs will be interviewing before the end of the season.... I think the job may be sumlin's if he impresses in the interview and wants it.

I am not a fan of Chucky but that is piss poor reasoning by LZ. We don't even know if Smith isn't going to get Casserly'd. We certainly don't know that McNair has all the sudden ceded all control to Smith. I doubt very much McNair is going to let Smith keep him from a HC he wants.

Yep, the timing of firing Kubiak tells me Sumlin is in McNair's serious HC candidate list.

Some appealing possibilities are Jack del Rio, Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban. Of those who will be available, among those we want least are Mike Shanahan and Mack Brown.

Just got a text from an out-of-town friend whose opinion I respect and knows a ton about football: "You guys have to get David Shaw at Stanford."

Jesus, Ok, what's the deal with David Shaw? I don't know much about him, but everyone is raving about him. Is he that good?

The guy has taken what Harbaugh built at Stanford and improved on it. Probably the most well coached team in the country with the talent level not close to its ranking. I'd love to have Shaw even though I'm not sure how his style would adapt to having 2 really good receivers on the outside. That's a luxury he's never had at Stanford although they always keep good Tight Ends.
