We were Kubed to death. The coach's predictable play calling and his rule that the QB can't substantially change the call played right into the hands of the opponents, who finally caught on to his style.

My opinion? Turnovers killed this team. At first it was Schaub throwing pick-6's every game, which basically lost the confidence of the entire team. Now, although Keenum hasn't thrown too many interceptions, the team is still committing crucial turnovers. Against Arizona Keenum was strip-sacked that directly resulted in 7 points to the Cardinals. Against Oakland Graham fumbled and Keenum threw an interception. Both gave Oakland the ball in the redzone directly resulting in 14 points. This team is biting themselves in the ass. Good football teams don't do that.

Kubiak since Wade and Foster came along regressed a lot of his previous play calling to try to keep Schaub and his plays within reach for the post season. This feel in line with Schaub's regression after this injury which lead to a system where check downs are the primary throws and it seemed like there was no real deep threat.

Other teams noticed this due to several games last season and have stepped up to take away the three key points of our offense, A. Johnson, Foster and the TE position (especially in the red zone). Kubiak despite several games in the second half of last season never seemed to recover, convinced that the defense would eventually bail them out as they did against most teams last season. The defense didn't step up and stayed about the same, the offense took steps back from even their late season form due to relying even more on those guys (with Graham picking up on receptions that previously went to Casey or Dressen) and ultimately leaving this team where we are now.

Case Keenum had the spark that might have gotten us a couple wins but Kubiak pretty much killed any confidence the kid had by benching him in the Raiders game and has worked him into playing more like how Kubiak wants (ie Schaub) which means he isn't getting into the red zone as teams are ready as they have been since week 3 because the other teams know where you likely to go and you take what they give you.

As inconsistent as the offensive line has been, the fact that teams like the Broncos and Seahawks have done as well as they have lost starters for significant times and their QBs have been hit and sacked worst. The play calling is the biggest issue with the offense and combined with how bad the special teams are that makes the fate of Kubiak and others in this regime obvious.

The many decisions made by the brain trust have finally taken its toll.
Not if this was going to happen but when.
Ultimately goes to very top. (McNair)
1. Keeping GM means
2. We keep head coach and extend means
3. We not only keep MS we overpay (GM responsibility)
4. Not really sure who evaluates talent but we really have no clue what we are doing.
5. Ed Reed (GM)
6. Salary cap management (GM)

Will not get better in future unless we get "LUCKY" with our next brain trust choices. I really don't feel even remotely confident the right choice will be made.

Gm must go.

Case's "spark" was that no team had tape on him yet

Yep, if you play him straight up, not knowing what to expect, Keenum can run around like a madman, pull up at some point after getting free, and launch a precision bomb to a WR deep downfield on a broken play. Problem is, you can't plan this out if you are our coach (Keenum just makes it happen occasionally) & you CAN plan against it if you are the opposing DC and know about it. Keenum is GREAT at doing just what I just described, but lacks expertise (or something) at throwing intermediate passes across the middle (leading the receiver horizontally), reading defenses, and especially finding the hot receiver while getting blitzed and getting him the ball accurately and quickly. He can't see him (possible height problem), he can't make his reads fast enough, & he couldn't hit him accurately even if he could. He's workin' on it, though, & we got other problems all over the field.

Default Re: Texans....whaaat happened!

One of the biggest detriments to this team happened during the last two or three off-seasons, when players were far from the field-of-play. The Texans let some good players walk, and tried to replace them with draft picks that did not work out. Even some good draft picks like Quesenberry ended up on the IR. Most of our good players have gone on to other teams and played really well. Both DeMeco Ryans and Conner Barwin went to Philly and they're in better shape than the Texans. Eric Winston is playing well for a play-off bound Cardinals team. Of course, you know how Trendon Holliday has played for the Broncos, and Jacoby Jones for the Ravens. Our seasoned TE Kevin Walter was let go and then we could not find a good backup at that position when Owen Daniels went down. It has been an orchestration of losing good players, supplanted by poor players or injuries.

Then...to top things off, we went into Kansas City and nearly beat them. We would have beat them I think. The scenario that played out could not have been scripted better for what this season has become. We went into the game rather healthy, but Arian Foster got injured, and Tate was already injured and our promising young running back Cierre Wood, just the night before; was caught up in the "Cigar Smoking Incident" and was sent packing with two other players. He could have been the difference for us in a game that would have been a huge shot-in-the-arm for the team.

Really...since Schaub's Pick-6's started, every week has been a week of frustrating events. Wade loses his dad, Bum. The icing on this cake of crap was the Indy game, we were beginning to blow them out and then Kubes goes down with a mini-stroke.

Now...things seem to have settled down and everyone is waiting to see what happens at the end of the season....

I'm assuming that was a jibe at his slowness and pretty good blocking ability.

Yeah, he was (despite rarely being open), & Owen Daniels was first, leaving our Hall of Fame caliber WR, Andre Johnson, as Mattie's 3rd choice.
