Some quotes on the Texans from Walter Football's draft rumor page:

1/24: "Still early but source beleves if its up to Bill O'Brien expect Blake Bortles/UCF at 1st pick or Zach Mettenberger/LSU at the top of rnd 2." - Tony Pauline

1/24: "Bortles is also a Bill O’Brien type of passer and Houston is a franchise in desperate need of a signal caller. The owner would prefer Johnny Manziel." - Tony Pauline

Not that I've settled my mind or anything, but it's nice to know they aren't "in love" with any particular player right now...

@THEREALALLENOU @Zepp1978 I'm telling you this emphatically; Bortles is better coming out of college than Locker.

Here's the thing about "Reach at 1". If he's your guy, and you know he wouldn't be there at 33, it's not a reach.
Deleted. Misunderstood who was the person talking.

I don't get the Roethlisberger comparisons. The thing that makes Ben Ben, is that he holds onto the ball, he's hard to get on the ground, & he's always looking for the big play.

I don't see that with Bortles. All his size... he goes down pretty easy.

I have not seen that. I have seen a guy that moves around very well and can scramble. He is a good size and he plows forward from what I have seen. And he throws a pretty nice deep ball and is very capable of big plays. Big Ben wasn't some passing guru when he entered the NFL either. You're taking in hind sight of what he became. Hell, Ben isn't an elite passer now or even close either. He can play though. He has been a winner and been consistent at it. I definitely think that Bortles has a very similar skill set to Big Ben.

"I just think that when I see him personally and see what a strong guy he is, he looks just like Ben Roethlisberger did when he came out of college 10 years ago," Brandt said. "And I think that strength part of the QB position is really important in the NFL, because guys that are built strong aren't as likely to get hurt as guys who are thinner like Teddy Bridgewater."

Bortles told "Super Bowl Live" he checks in at just over 6-foot-5 and currently weighs 235 pounds, attributes that were on display in a 34-31 win over Penn State in 2013. Bortles threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in what ended up as an inadvertant audition to be the No. 1 overall pick, as new Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien was on the other sideline leading the Nittany Lions.

I'm not going to argue against the idea that bigger guys like Bortles tend to be more protected from injury than smaller guys like Bridgewater.

But does anyone else see the irony in the comparison to Roethlisberger, a guy who has only played all 16 games twice in ten years?

He mentions how size and strength are important to prevent getting hurt, and then mentions the one big QB who is hurt all the time.

Upon further review, Big Ben has started 142 games out of a possible 160 games. That is DURABLE for most NFL QBs and really doesn't meet with your characterization and exaggeration of "one big QB who is hurt all the time."

Big Ben's size and strength allow him to stay in the pocket longer/extend plays because he's tougher to bring down. His unwillingness to fold may contribute to his injuries.

I'm not sure that automatically translates to any 6'5", 235 lb. QB, though.

Of those a few were "missed" early on when he was healthy but not the starter until Maddox got injured. He also missed time due to the motorcycle accident and appendectomy. Hard to see how those reflect on his football durability.

I think he missed 4 games due to suspension for the whole "rape" thing.

All very good points which further suggest Big Ben is far more durable on the football field than off.

What an idiot. This guy is not a doctor and shouldn't be viewed as one. He's a guy that has a platform to say whatever he feels like, but is clearly (EDIT) someone that is not as qualified as a doctor to speak on this.

He's an 80 year old man set on his ways. He's like those scouts that laughed at Brad Pitt in Moneyball because it was something new and innovative he was introducing.

I remember "BIG Ben" almost dying because of an injury suffered on the football field just over a year ago.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...entially-fatal

Let's speak about truths related to size and not need to break out our resident Dr's to sort truth to it again that some will never accept/respect.

He can see the full field of vision and he will be a beast to take down coupled with his ability to run. He's a talented young super old looking man.

In other news, we now have "trusted" sightings of Bortles #1. This goes along with the others we have seen with TB #1, Manziel #1, Clowney #1, and a trade down scenario, and a trade for Mallet scenario. Obviously all of these are from "trusted" sources... obviously.
