Default BADBOY's December mock

I am wishful of a trade down & in this mock #1 (3,000) to Cleveland who missed out on the RG3 sweepstakes and desperately needs a QB. Texans get #8 (1400) & #25 (720)(Colts) in first, #72 (230) & #79 (195) in third and a first in 2015 (580 equal to 2014 2nd) totaling 3125.

1. WR Mike Evans 6'5" 225 1322 yds, 12 TDs and 20.3 avg. Texas A&M This 20 YOA from Galveston Ball High is deadly over the middle and down sidelines. Deceptively fast with great hands and known as "panic" target for Manziel. Gives both QBs a huge, fast, accurate target

http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/cfb/132186/mike-evans

Excellent break down on stats such as avg after catch: http://secondroundstats.com/2013/11/12/wrs2/

1 b QB Brett Hundley 6'3" 227 20 YOA UCLA this red shirt soph ended regular season with 2845, 22 TDs, 9 INTs and 8.32 avg. 68% (59% at Washington lowered number).
http://articles.latimes.com/2013/oct...tball-20131029
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-so-he-should/

2. OL Cyril Richardson 6'5" 335 Baylor draft him to start LG or support Q. He played LT 2011 for RG3.
http://standingosports.wordpress.com...il-richardson/
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-...n_cyril00.html

3a CB Louchiez Purifoy 6' 190 Florida this player frustrates me more than any other college player I've watched. I see him behind Joseph and maybe replacing KJ in 2015 barring a stellar final season for Jackson.

http://walterfootball.com/scoutingre...14lpurifoy.php "Skill-Set Summary: There doesn't appear to be any weakness or limitation for Purifoy as an athlete. He has ideal size for a cornerback with the agility to turn and run with receivers. Purifoy's speed and movement skills allow him to run with receivers in and out of breaks to prevent them from gaining separation. The first-year starter proved to have cover-corner ability last year. Purifoy's height and length mean quarterbacks have a hard time getting the ball by him.

Purifoy's tight coverage was one of the reasons why he did not record an interception in 2012. The sophomore simply didn't have that many passes thrown his direction. His level of ball skills is one of the only unknowns about him athletically. Purifoy hasn't had an interception in college, but that may not be from a lack of ball skills as he obviously is good enough at catching passes that the Gators are cross-training him at wide receiver.

Purifoy has rare speed for a large cornerback. He can run with speed receivers down the field and isn't threatened by smaller fast wide outs who try to get over the top. Purifoy can battle the big receivers and won't be bullied around. He also showed nice fundamentals as a first-year starter. Purifoy didn't gamble on routes and was disciplined.

The junior is surprisingly physical for a cornerback."

3b S Dion Bailey 6' 200 4.46 USC this 21 YOA has skills and hip swivle to play CB. I compare him to Glover Quin as Dion has played LB and nickle corner prior to moving back to safety 2013. 58 Tackles 5 INTs. Replaces McCain and maybe Manning 2015.

3c ILB/OLB Yawin Smallwood 6'3" 240 Connecticutt 118 T, 4 sacks, 1 INT, 9.5 for loss and defended 10 passes. Turns 22 Christmas & good motor and IMO could play OLB. Did not quit despite team record.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...015&genpos=ILB

4. NT Ryan Carrethers 6'2" Ark St 87 Ts, 8 TFL , 4 sacks

http://www.fox16.com/sports/story/Ca...k0e8J3Z0cgzv_w

5a OLB James Gayle 6'4" 255 Virgina Tech (almost went here for his teammate Taylor Hart).
http://firstroundgrade.com/2013/08/1...le-de-va-tech/
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/...yle_james.html

5b. RT JaWuan James 6'6" 318 Tennessee I like him better at right tackle than A. Richardson. He seems to never get beat. I'm unsure if Brennan Williams returns but this allows some cleaning out of tackles. Getting Cyril in second allows me to gamble James falls to here.
http://www.utsports.com/sports/m-foo..._jawuan00.html

6. Rb George Atkinson III 6'2" 220 4.48 Notre Dame 93/555 6 avg. As always ND's RBs hare the ball. 7/51 receiving.

7. CB Phillip Gaines 6' 185 Rice 4 INTs no one seems to have heard of him and TBH when I watch him he just seems steady. Low Risk high reward.

The work you guys put into these mocks amazes me. I will never be able to comment past 2nd round because I honestly don't know who most of the players are. Predraft I use everyone's mocks (on this board and national) to get familiar with lower level players.

I have a few comments. Why would you take a WR high that doesn't have top speed? You basically are getting another Hopkins - not Julio Jones IMO. I believe we need speed on this team on both sides of the ball. I feel like this would be a wasted pick but maybe you see something I don't.

I'm actually cool with Hundley. His ceiling seems high but in the games I've watched he needs some work. The only question I'd ask you is - who do you think the best QB is in the draft? If the answer isn't Hundley then I believe this entire draft could be a failure. Not your picks. They could be great but without great QB play we'll be one of those borderline playoff teams with little shot of going for a deep run. See the Bengals.

Just my opinion but franchise QB > the entire rest of the draft.

Purifoy and Richardson are too my favorite players in this draft. Don't understand why Purifoy doesn't get more love.

I have watched a lot of Evans and he just flat out runs his opponents and his reach + height gives him a target area that DBs can't achieve. Even if a corner or safety matches strides he is usually 5-7 inches higher in a leap or on ground. He is AJ strong and I disagree we need another speed WR that is 6'2 or less ( Watkins or Marqis Lee). Remember, most WRs & DBs measure less at combine & Evans has measured at 6'5 5/8".

QB good questions. I have watched all the top QBs with exception of Garoppolo & the most exciting is Manziel BUT risk he does not translate to NFL is too high & he has been beaten up this year. I am not as high on Bridgewater as some & if you follow those who evaluate him, cracks are beginning to show. Pick #1 HAS to be a slam dunk & not willing to jump on the TB train. I prefer four picks (8, 25, 72 & 79) plus another 1st in 2015. I am still on board with Keenum and think he starts 2014 unless he falls apart rest of this year. A comment some time ago by his former coach was Case gets better after mistakes. He learns & moves on. Let's not forget the Oline must be better regardless who is drafted so why would not Keenum be better also? I am also big fan of McCarron but Hundley offers higher ceiling.

Finally, there is no franchise QB in 2014 draft.

My question is, is Cleveland trading up for someone you think could be a franchise QB?

Consistency, he just is all over the board when I watch him. Some point to Kelvin Benjamin beating him but he is 6'5 235 (like Evans). Sometimes his aggressiveness costs him. He will play some his first year but a year behind Texans' starters will benefit him. Here is what I see most of time. http://stripehype.com/2013/11/30/flo...ter-nfl-draft/

Evans looks like a faster Gronk. Not sure exactly how that translates to the NFL. Speed is lacking on this team so I just think we need to prioritize speed a little more than we have. That doesn't mean eliminating a receiver like Evans but means you still have no top speed on offense.

I'm not saying to take TB or anyone else. If you think Hundley isn't a franchise QB, why waste a 1st round pick on him? Why not pick a vet to compete with Keenum and use all those picks you've received to get another 1st for next year? Wouldn't 3 1sts put you in better position to get a franchise QB or do you just not think having a franchise QB is that important?

My concern is the success rate for QBs that aren't the first QB picked are way lower. If you get a serviceable QB (say - Hundley or heck even TB) then you will never be in position to get a true franchise QB or worse, never feel like you need one because yours is good enough - see Schaub.

First off, very solid effort. I would love to trade back but I really don't see us getting this king's ransom that some of you guys expect. I hope so, but I doubt it. On to your draft..

Evans - I was higher on him earlier in the season. I think his top end speed is limited and he disappears at times. He also gets away with a ton of PI that may not fly in the NFL. Great athlete at his size, but I'm not sold that he adds that much to our offense.

Hundley - My 2nd favorite QB in this class. Having said that, I hope he goes back to school. He needs another year.

Richardson - Great pick. I like him a lot.

Purifoy - I don't see him available in the 3rd. I've got him going late 1st/early 2nd, so at worst I think he goes by the end of the 2nd round. Good prospect, just needs to get more consistent, which you already covered.

Bailey - I like Bailey as Manning's eventual replacement. I don't think he's capable of playing the nickel in the NFL, but he can certainly run with TEs. Good pick.

Smallwood - Awesome pick. WolverineFan turned me onto this guy and I'm in love now.

Carrethers - Good college player with good size, but I don't see his skillset translating to the pros very well. He's very much worth a shot here. I'm just not that high on him.

Gayle - Meh. Fills a need, but I don't see him upgrading our team anywhere.

James - I think James is gone way before this. He is overshadowed by his teammate Richardson but this guy can play. I would take him an entire round before this and not feel bad.

Atkinson - He doesn't do it for me but it's the 6th round. Not a bad pick.

Gaines - Great pick. Very underrated prospect. Hopefully this happens.

I agree with this. There is no luck or RG3 in this draft. No way we get the same deal Cleveland got last year.

If we took Evans I'd want him to play a hybrid TE/WR role. A better version of KW except he'd that
actually plays as role that suits him. I'd be in 3 wide most times which would lessen the need for a big time receiving TE.

I'd play him similar to how the patriots play gronk.

I'd line him up in the slot, at wing positions and occasionally out wide.

But I'd mostly have him playing how gronk does where he can create match up problems for the defense. Which would mean he'd have to be a good blocker.

Now, that is IMO best case scenario for him on this team. And even then I still wouldn't trade down and select him when we have a shot at clowney or bridgewater. If I did trade down id target Derek Carr.

I have not gotten into the second round and later in depth for right now. I'm still trying to figure out the first round.

Not sure you definition of speed but AJ was 4.35 combine and surely has slowed some. Hopkins ran 4.41 and 4.46 pro day and Posey ran 4.5.

As I said no franchise QB in '14. I would rather have my picks than your "franchise" and I am not being nasty just honest.

I know what you mean about Evans but he has caught less than 4 passes in game once (against SMU) and his two were for 57 yards. Missouri held him to only four for 8 yds. What I do not get is why he was not thrown to more often? Manziel seemed to use him as an "Oh, s... what do I do now? Oh, look there is Evans!" I just see him on field with AJ and Hopkins and Keenum licking his lips.

Cleveland is willing to mortgage its future because they hope TBW is a Franchise QB, or because they want to please the fans? Or both?

Its getting a little squirrely in here. You are mocking the Texans based on a trade down that involves an organization thinking a certain way and reacting to its fan base. Bottom line, if you dont think TBW is a franchise QB, what makes you think Cleveland does?

Cleveland saw all the hoopla with RG3 and wants some. Griffin had to compete with Luck, TB has nothing to compete with. It ain't about the steak but how hungry you are. Cleveland is starving.

I would not compare Evans to Gronk or use him as TE. He is more like we have played AJ last two years. Pass to him at or near LOS and watch him make a play and then let Keenum send him deep. Evans is very good down sidelines.

It is a combination of things. First having the #1 and # 40 picks is not mortgaging anything. They get what many perceive to be the best QB + a WR in second. They have nothing at QB now. Despite what others think (for now) I believe Keenum starts. Two teams with different needs at QB.

Liking the mock, especially that more people are noticing Smallwood.
