Would love to see the Texans sign Patrick Edwards.

The dude was magic with Keenum, he could be had cheaply,
he has much better hands than Keyshawn, and is just as solid
of a returner as well..

Just curious, if Texans did not keep the "cigar" as evidence or do immediate drug test, what recourse do players have?

Just an assumption but...I'm sure that smoking anything in the hotel is against team rules. They admitted they were smoking. What recourse should they have? Besides - the Texans don't have to say what rule was broken. These guys could have all been released for any reason the team wanted to come up with. It happens every week in the NFL. Breaking curfew, missing meetings, poor practice performance, injuries... The players that were released said it was for smoking. We can all speculate that this was just a "last straw" situation.

I'd like to see if the three players would actually let the league do a hair follicle test on them. Only until then would I believe that they weren't smoking pot.

Why is the burden of proof on the players? The marijuana slant was started by ESPN. Does ESPN have anything other than speculation and conjecture to back up their claims?

I completely agree but...all 3 players submitted to voluntary drug tests already. The problem is those tests are easy to cheat. If you are really innocent and want to resurrect a career with potential millions at stake, you submit to whatever tests teams require.

Dishman- Totally off topic but my step son plays flag football in a Cypress little league and Cris Dishman's son is also in the league and the kid is a freaking beast. It's seriously like watching a man play against a bunch of kids. When he gets the ball, he literally will not have a flag pulled. After a while, the coaches take him out because it's just really not fair. On defense, he will bee-line from the opposite end of the field and somehow be the one who pulls the flag. I saw Dishman himself at the game but didn't want to bother him.

Anyways, just saw your username reminded me of that. Carry on...

NFL Players, FAs or otherwise, can via the NFLPA request the NFL to test them anytime...............evidently, none of the three did.........for probably good reason........

Because the folks that need to believe these players are in compliance with the NFL drug policy are the decision makers for the other 31 NFL teams. The players can claim innocent until proven guilty, they can provide a successfully passed test they took outside the auspices of NFL oversight, and they could even potentially win a grievance against the Texans, but in the court of the real-world NFL, their innocence (or alternately, their ability to become innocent and stay that way) is 100% at the discretion of other teams who can place that burden upon them if they so choose.

But if ESPN doesn't rumor-monger then do those players even need to submit to testing?

That pretty cool! Used to live in Cypress myself a few years back until I was married off to Kingwood. I hope his kid turns out to be a beast (your stepson, too)!

I guess my point is was any evidence provided to ESPN that they smoked marijuana? If not, the players grievance should be with the network. I may have missed it, but isn't it all speculation and rumor? Sure, the 3 "dudes, 1 cigar" story is suspicious and awkward, but so far that's all, huh?

I think the speculation was going to be there regardless of ESPN or anyone else reporting it. Look back at the first few pages of this thread (which was started prior to ESPN publishing anything), and you'll see it coming up on a pure conjecture basis.

Again, going back to your burden of proof concept, if I'm with another NFL team, I'm gonna assume the worst whether ESPN, Fox, TMZ, or Incarcerated Bob reports it or not. Then I'm gonna expect whichever guy I might be interested in to change my mind.

If they smoked no weed, the dug test's will show it. Evidently all 3 did take a test. Why don't they have jobs if they can pass a league drug tesr?

Go to any smoke shop in town and they have a variety of detoxing kits, masking agents, and even synthetic urine. All manufactured for one purpose. I have friends that use these techniques all the time and not one has ever lost a potential job due to a drug test.

I heard the Wood interview today. He sounds sincere, but that, in and of itself, proves absolutely nothing, just like his independent drug test.

As mentioned up thread, the hair test is the one you cannot beat, afaik.

Most hair tests can test back to 90 days. Those who shave their head thinking that they have beaten the system will be invited back with a week or two with instructions to let the hair grow. [Hair grows at ~1/2" per month.........with total abstention, shaving AFTER 1 1/2" of hair growth needs to occur to remove all signs of substance in the hair]
