Default Cedric Ogbuehi Tore ACL in the Liberty Bowl

Important because his name has been tossed around a little here. FWIW Liucci is as good as it gets in the A&M news business.

Since Cedric O tore his ACL, what round do you think we can snag this dude in now? I still want him and love the value play he now presents.

And this is why you go into the draft when the advisory board tells you you have a first or second round grade.

I hear you on this. I'm all about a free education as a failed wannabe athlete, but if these dudes are ready they just need to go. Lattimore was a sad reminder of this. Just go and get paid.

I do remember reading somewhere that Texas A&M sound some NCAA loophole to pay for the insurance on his "loss of draft value" policy to convince him to come back to A&M. I don't know the exact name, but if he gets drafted in the 5th as opposed to the first he will be paid out by the insurance policy the difference in value.

I think it still definitely hurts him when negotiating his 2nd contract though and I don't think the policy has any protection against that.

Nothing wrong with wanting your degree, and A&M pulled out an insurance policy on him to convince him to come back.

There's no rule saying that you can't get your degree after going into the NFL.

If he is the beneficiary, then it has to be a violation of NCAA regulations since it has value whether used or not. This is an investigation waiting to happen.

It's NCAA legal:

Quote:
Over the last two years, the NCAA has allowed schools to pay such policies, most of which have been paid for through the Student Assistance Fund. The fund allows schools to pay for certain items for athletes in need, including insurance.

Yeah getting an education/college degree is ideal but with a career ending injury always looming it's wise to earn while you can. As a selfish fan I'd love to see these guys get more seasoning in college to be pro-ready but I don't have the earning potential these guys do. I can't blame them for jumping to the pros.

"Sources say Georgia paid in between $50,000 and $60,000 for the policy. Next we'll be giving House Payments for Million Dollar mansions out of the Student Assistance Funds because they NEED a place to live.

Read what you quoted, this time including the bold:

It's allowed period. Most is not all and need is not a requirement.

This has nothing to do with need. Infantrycak already pointed that out.

It's still a blatant abuse of the students funding intended to help those truly in need. Just because the NCAA has chosen to allow this abuse, it doesn't make it right. Governments and bureaucracies are not in the business of right and wrong which is obvious by the amount of wrong they allow and even encourage.

Louis Nix III and Brennan Williams endorse this philosophy.

I was about to post the same thing. People often look at a pre-draft injury as an opportunity to get a steal, but is that really what history shows?

You really gonna give up on Nix after one season on the IR cause he wasn't ready? I won't, but do you.

Brennan Williams should have no say on this either, he hurt his knee in Rookie Camp and had to go through microfracture knee surgery (the one that ends basically everyone's careers). The labrum tear in his shoulder in college had little to nothing to do with why he is currently on the streets.

That's basically like saying when Clowney turns out to be the super bust he is going to be you come out after the fact and shoot down a prospect with an unrelated injury at the time of the draft comparing them to Clowney.

Now if Cedric O underwent Microfracture knee surgery I am also steering clear, but that's simply not the case, we've seen many athletes do just fine coming back from this injury.

Default Re: Cedric Ogbuehi Tore ACL in the Liberty Bowl

This is an awful turn for Ogbuehi. He got overrated coming into the season and then played poorly throughout the year, even moving to RT for a time. I haven't dug into it yet, but I've heard he was responsible for as many as 12 sacks allowed this year.

The big issue here is that his game is completely reliant on his athleticism. He's not as naturally talented as Joeckel or Matthews and his technique is shoddy. His stock was so high because of his physical ability and the potential to mold him into a high ceiling player. The issue here is an ACL injury could sap him of some of that athleticism and lower his ceiling considerably.

To be honest, I had him ranked as a 3rd rounder before the injury and would probably lower that to 4th-5th round now. He's going on the PUP list for sure. One positive is that he will not be thrown out on the field with his shoddy technique and get worked by better defenders. He will have some time to sit and learn how to play OT.

He's perfect for a team with a 3rd day comp pick. IR him for the year, stick him in the weight room, and you might have something in 2016.

Don't know how many comp picks Texans will get this year but do you think they would be willing to do something like this after all they've been through with Williams, Nix, Clowney, etc... the last couple of years? It's a shame because Ogbuehi could turn out to be a good player. Just don't know what the Texans are thinking anymore about players with injuries before the Draft.
