He's raw. Needs a redshirt year. I'd prefer Bridgewater, but I could handle Bortles if you bring in a vet to keep him on the bench for a year. Do not want Manziel. It's not personal with him, he's a great college player. But I don't see his game translating at all.

This seems to be the general consensus and the parroting of most of the pretend scouts, media and talking hairdos.

You are correct though that his stock shot through the roof toward the end of the year because of media hype. However, if this draft had a more prototypical QB ranked at the top then you wouldn't see as much Bortles hype. He's raw and, IMO, he needed another year in college. That said, Bridgewater and Manziel are not prototypes hence the hype around a guy like Bortles who looks the part.
Ehh, probably overstated my case there a little...there's no doubt some knew who he was...but most of those were the draftnik types....like you. I'm a U of H grad & I remember seeing Bortles before all the hype in that game.

I distinctly remember saying something to myself along the lines of "he's terrible".

LZ said that Bortles was JAG but the media played him up a bit because he threw and did all the drills .

For any of these guys, it depends on the OC/QB coach & how they go about developing their QB. I wouldn't have started Russell Wilson, or RG3 as early as they did, but since their coach made it easy for them.... they excelled.

If you want him (or any of the guys "projected" at the top of this draft) to play & look like an NFL QB, they're going to need time on the bench, spot duty here & there. No hate, Bridgewater may be closer than the other two, but it's going to be a huge jump in talent level compared to what he's used to playing against.

Four months ago Blake Bortles wasn't in the discussion, 4 months ago Bortles was going to back to school, 4 months ago the 90% of the pretend scouts, media and talking hairdos had been in the tank for Teddy for well over 8 months, the other 10% were madly in love Johnny Football.

but then....Oct 18, 2013....Louisville KY....w/ 7:52 left in 3rd Quarter

Louisville led UCF 28-7

The Results: UCF 38 - Louisville 35,.....ending with a Blake Bortles GAME WINNING DRIVE

and then....

UCF goes 12-1, League Champion, Goes to a FCS Bowl, WINS despite being the largest underdog in FCS Bowl history.

and then.......Bortles declares for the NFL DRAFT, nothing left to prove in college.

and the pretend scouts, media and talking hairdos group think and talking points begin, Teddy plays in Pro Offense, TB is more ready, TB can start day 1, BB is raw, BB inexperienced, BB will have to sit on the bench for a year.

Truth is none of what the pretend scouts, media and talking hairdos say about Bortles is true. Why the group think and talking points. They had locked on to Teddy had been for almost a year. Didn't do their homework. Didn't want to admit they had jumped the gun. Didn't want to admit they were wrong. Come May 4th the 90% will have shrunk substantially.
