That wasn't a light graze, he gave it a pretty solid hit. It doesn't look that bad if you just watch the play but if you watch his head, it is. And the blow came to the side of the head at an angle which is, from my understanding, particularly susceptible to concussions.

It's got me worried, though. We might have to pull a Detroit Lions and draft WRs in the first in multiple years to get the WR2 fixed.

So now Hopkins has gone from 1-2 times more likely to receive a concussion after having had his first one, to 2-4 times more likely to receive a concussion after his second one.

It'd be best to not throw to him over the middle.

That's going to limit him quite a bit don't you think?

During the preseason, the Texans have used all the WRs and TEs in the slot.........including AJ.

Yep, but if you don't want Hopkins going over the middle, then that means when Hopkins is in (Which should be a lot this season) other teams would know he's not going over the middle and may make covering him easier on opposing DB's.

You're right. That makes it that much more important to see at least ONE other receiver distinguish himself as a "sure thing" across the middle.......something that never really happened last year.

Just because you're in the slot, doesn't mean you're going over the middle.

Just because you're not in the slot, doesn't mean you're not going over the middle.

Hopkins will probably get hit anytime the ball is in his hands.... "weird" I know.... but that's the way it is.

You mean he's not taking every catch to the endzone?!? So much for that 78 TD season.

As the NFL has evolved, the slot receiver has become a more and more dangerous position to play.

I came across this piece published earlier this year that follows the history of the slot receiver from the original concept introduced by Al Davis.

A History of NFL Slot Receivers: Are They Playing with Fire in Today's League?

Quote:
If nothing changes, slot receivers will replace running backs as the "disposable" skill position player: draft a fast guy; plug him in; cut him when he loses a step, shreds a knee or breaks his brain.
I can't really argue with the conclusion.

Man, we certainly held out a lot of guys this year, hadn't we?

Lechler, Greg Jones.
Watt playing all of 2 snaps, etc.

I thought Jones played a lot with the 1's and 2's and got stood up more than a few times? Guy with dreads, number in the 30's? (33 or 37 I think)

Thinking 76 means limited action in reference to Jones. It was the first preseason game he played and he was only out there for 12 plays and yeah he's number 33.

He played a lot more in the Dolphins game and didn't look like any thing special from what I saw.

I think it's smart... less mileage early, stronger through the end.
