All right! Solution Time!

Ok so we lost Cushing, the only ILB that could cover...

Let us make suggestion on how to solve this conundrum...

Mine is to, while in Dime situations, pull the ILBs and replace them with DBs or a Safety. Maybe drop Quin down, Nolan back and have 4 DLs and 7 DBs to cover backs, WRs and TE....

So you could have a look like this...

Barwin
Smith
Watt
Reed

Quin - play in the box OR
Manning - play in the box
Nolan
Joseph
Jackson
McCain
Ball? or whom ever...

Don't know if it would work but is could solve the coverage issue with Cushing gone...

I'd be tempted to move Brooks Reed to ILB and plug in Braman or Mercilus in at his spot ....

Don't we already play a bunch of dime with that same look, Quin as the in the box safety?

Personally, in dime defense I'd put Manning in Cushing's spot and have Ball replace Manning

Nah, I've read several posters on this subject, and what they are suggesting is for us to move into a quarter package (4 big men - DL and/or LB) and (7 DBs).

The dime is what we normally see (5 front end and 6 DBs.)

My question is who do we need to cover to move from a dime to a quarter unless it's a hail mary situation or similar.

What about moving Keo down in the box to cover a back or help in the run. He should be compitant enough to cover a back out of the backfield...

Or am I giving him too much credit?

Remember that we still have 6 DBs in the dime to cover 5 offensive weapons.
We can go man with a single safety (which we often do) and bring the LB in on a blitz.

Or we can have the LB protecting the short hole or to help out on a certain offensive threat that we key on.

If we decide to go with 2-deep safety, the LB only has to jump on the RB in the short area (if we go man) or we can play zone.


There might be a special occasion when we put a DB on a "scat back" like we did against Dexter McCluster a couple years ago when the Chiefs move him around a lot, from the backfield to the slot, to wide out.

But that is not the norm, and not in the discussion here.
