or is he just filler for the practice squad? I have to think he will make somekind of difference @ OLB, and DE in 3rd and long.
But people have told me I can be wrong from time to time, so who knows.

Those who are being honest will say, "I don't know " or "Let's wait and see"

Well he is fast.. and was a sack machine in the CFL.. but will he be able to adjust to the NFL and the difference in rules and tactics?
as of right now.. I think he has a better chance of winning a starting job than Chamberlin or Moreno.. but whether or not he will make an impact is up in the air. |

well the reason it may be a cause for adjusting is because there is a reason he went to the CFL.. he wasnt good enough to play in the NFL. Now.. he went to the CFL and dominated.. but the CFL is TOTALLY different for the Dline.
The question is can he translate his dominance in the CFL to the NFL.. has he learned something over there that will help him be a good player over here now? |

It's really hard to say, but I'm leaning towards him not making much of an impact this year...Next year is a different story...As of now, he has no position...He'll most likely be an OLB, but I remember reading somewhere that they were going to try him out at ILB...Either way, playing LB is new to him and it will take him a year to digest the playbook and get used to playing in the NFL...The best case scenario for him will to be a situational pass rusher much like Peek was this year...

I read somewhere and I'm sorry that I can't find it, but it said that if Cheatwood doesn't make the active roster then he is going back to the CFL. That was writen into his CFL contract and Cheatwood was told that he had a very good chance on making the Texans.

I think Denver having a pretty solid DLine already, and since they're said to be experimenting with implementing the 3-4 some this upcoming season (mostly because Shannahan feels Manning struggles against 3-4 teams) Cheatwood probably figured he had a better shot at earning a spot on the Texans. What better place to go than a place with Dom Capers as the head coach, and openings for a backup OLB?

Sounds like another LB tweener position. If he can slim down id like to see him at strong safety I want an intimidator in the middle and a definite 8th man in the box run stopper. We could move earl to free safety he played both in college.

Earl doesn't have the coverage ability to be an NFL free safety, so your scenario will probably never happen...

I can't see us stretching for the Cheatwood as a SS project...our secondary is pretty well off and we need the pass rush way more than the pass coverage at this point.
(BTW...Earl would be a pretty good FS as well, I caught him in several ND games prior to the injury and what he lacks in pure speed he makes up for in angles and his ability to change direction quickly) As far as Cheatwood being a factor I think it's pretty solid that he will make the squad and be a situational pass rusher much like Peek. Think that Capers and Fangio are going to give Peek every opportunity to win the starting OLB job in camp and preseason (obviously this could shift around based on what the Texans unveil for the draft strategy).
