Thought this was interesting....
CB-S Von Hutchins’ best season of his career came just at the right time: He’s an unrestricted free agent who plays multiple positions who proved his worth to a defense that needed him to come through in 2007. And that he did, starting 15 games and seeing significant playing time at both cornerback and safety. The Texans are expected to try to bring back the 5-10, 180-pound Hutchins, whose versatility is a major asset to any secondary, but especially one that had injury issues in 2007. http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW...?mode=afcsouth Curious to hear some opinion on that....

I'm fine with it, I thought he had a solid year contributing to the secondary. He did what the coaches asked him to do and I think we will bring him back.

He looked pretty vulnerable there at the end of the season playing corner and he is undersized at safety but he is valuable as a back-up. I'd love to have him back.

I think it'd be a huge mistake to let him walk. The guy did exactly what we wanted from him. The question shouldn't be 'should we re-sign him?'....it needs to be 'why SHOULDN'T we re-sign him?'. I say that because if we let him go...we're going to need to get somebody to replace him and that would be tough to do.
CB- Fred Bennett (Dunta Robinson injured) S- Will Demps, CC Brown We def. need his versatility in playing CB and FS. I'd like to see us pick up a CB in free agency that can come in and get significant playing time AND/OR draft a top tier CB in the 1st round that would start Day 1. In either case I still think we need to bring Hutchins back. If we only do one, or neither...the case for needing Hutchins is that much more. Right now he's the 2nd best cornerback on our roster. (Bennett being #1) He's a solid player and that's just the kind of guys Smith/Kubiak are trying to pick up.

My guess is we sign Randal Gay and the patties come back and sign one of ours. And if we do this, sign Gay...you can bet money that when Dante Robinon comes up in '09...if he's healthy, the wolf in New England will throw the check book at him.

I could be wrong, but I think Gay signed an extension a few days ago. He was the guy I expected us to get.

like nero said, he wasnt looking so hot in the last few games.. that might be a reason 'not to bring him back' esp if he expects decent money... aswell as the fact that if we do FA and the draft right, he shouldn't see the field (except in nickel maybe) and you even said yourself, hes solid (at best imo).. you dont NEED to bring them back- yeah it'd be nice to at the right price but thats it |

He's what Jason Simmons was supposed to be for us only more talented. Don't get me wrong, I like Jason Simmons (he's a great guy), but Hutchins is doing what he did, only better.
