Another winable game, another big L. Sure the injuries didn't help, but when we needed a play, we didn't make one, or couldn't make one.

I understand now what the problem is. We don't have enough good players- period. Let's break it down.

Andre, DeMeco, Dunta, and even Kris Brown- known good players.

Mario, Schaub, Daniels, Walters - fragile, good players

Everyone else, isn't a very good NFL player. they're serviceable, OK players, but not good. I'll argue that till the cows come home folks- don't even start.

I take heart in the fact that when we start the season next year (yes, I'm already looking ahead) we'll have a healthy Charles Spencer, Dunta, and all our DB's or IR. We'll also have a young RB, Schaub in the 2nd year of the system, a new D Coordinator (hey, I can hope right?) and other young draft picks.

On the good side, it was nice to see our special teams contribute to our loss today with two turnovers. Not only Jones muff, but Boulware's terrific holding penalty on the muff by the Titans in the first. (For a guy who's only on the field about 8-10 plays a year, Boulware sure has committed a lot of penalties this year!)

While our line seemingly has improved according to sack totals, we tend to get obliterated when we play average and above defensive lines. We are Charmin up the middle and ancient on one of the ends. How many times did they collapse us up the middle today on runs and passes? We couldn't even block their three guys with our SIX at the end of the game.

And when we drop EIGHT, even VY completes his passes down the seem - and he's not known as an accurate passer in the least!

Mario and OD are fragile? OD has butterfingers, but I wouldn't call him fragile. Didn't he break his nose and come back into a game once?

Every week we the fans have been seeing the same crap. The organization needs to make a statement to the fans (people who pay a lot of money) to watch the crap they been putting on the field for the last 6 years.

Enough is enough. Where is the heart on defense? Make the players that lose the ball suffer some fines or something for their lack of discipline. We are leading the league in turnovers and what they are doing to stop it is not working.

awesome- D-Rob, DeMeco, Mario
good- Travis, Kalu, Clark, Amobi
decent- Bennet, Greenwood, Demps, Weaver

thats 10 out of 11 starters on defense. The Texans D has plenty of talent. D-Rob is out, but Hutchins is not that bad. Upgrade at SS, get a better D-coordinator, and the Texans should easily have a top 10 defense.

Oh, they'll make a statement. You'll have to wait until February, though, when they send out our season ticket renewals. The statement will be "Pay by March 8, 2008".

As far as seeing the same old crap...yeah, that's what fans do. We live through the bad times in order to appreciate the good ones. I'm as disenchanted as any fanatic, but what am I going to do? My only recourse is to abandon the whole thing and make a statement by not supporting the product. Beyond that, they play and we watch. There is not much else we can do. But I ain't quitting! No way. I've put way too much into 6 losing seasons to give up before they start winning.

I do understand the need to vent, so I'm not trying to chastise you or belittle your opinions. Just put things into perspective to keep your sanity, and try to avoid ultimatums and guarantees for things beyond your control.

I don't think it is safe to assume that these two will be completely healthy ever again, let alone the beginning of next season. It would be wonderful if they could come back at 100% after the offseason, but it might be a little too early to pencil them in as starters in week 1 next year. Their injuries were catostrophic.

Its not only guys trying to make a play, although I do appreciate the optimism. We've had guys fumble the ball after catching it and trying to fight for an extra yard or two. Most of the people on our offense have caused a turnover, with the notable exception of the offensive line good job, guys! But they DID allow Schaub to be sacked and lose the ball."Trying to make a play" isn't an excuse at this point... 31 turnovers is ridiculous. Like 2.5 times a game is not "trying to make a play." It's "not knowing how to take care of the ball."

Granted, Schaub is basically in his rookie year so hopefully those things (learning to take care of the ball) will come with experience. And yes, that is relevant, since Schaub accounts for like half of the turnovers, interceptions, and fumbles combined.

Although he would help IF he could stay off the injury report.

Offense: You see things where the system sometimes look better than the players on the field. You see moments and things that make you think they are on track and could be very good.

Defense: You see a lot of individual effort to make plays(see esp DeMeco Ryans), but few moments where you think the scheme makes the players look better than they are.

So the summary is:

Defensive Coordinator has no track record running a 4-3 or being the solo coodinator of any defense prior to the Texans.

His first three games as a Texans coach, unleashing his new scheme were such a horror show that Kubiak had to help him out.

The Texans defense is on the bottom of the league in many statistical categories. The run defense sucks and the pass defense sucks.

Even if you make the argument that turnovers make their statistics look worse than they are, you can see obvious huge problems of mistakes, players wildly out of position, overpursuit, odd schemes that make you wonder what the hades Richard Smith is doing and coaching.

Yes, the defense needs more players, but why should the fanbase and the players for that matter trust that this guy is a coach that if they follow him, he will make them better.

The only track record he has is with the Texans, and it stinks so far.

I just dont get the "We pay you money..make us happy" thing. For some reason I just dont see anyone over at the Texans offices bursting into tears, stabbing themselves in the chest repeatedly with a letter opener, and screaming:

"THEY DIDNT GET THEIR MONEY'S WORTH! THEY DIDNT GET THEIR MONEY'S WORTH! THEY DIDNT GET THEIR MONEY'S WORTH!"

I dunno.. maybe you think your dollar is special, and when you pay for tickets they should schedule a parade in your honor, but in my mind... you are paying to watch your team. Your investment in the team is your way of saying "I support you". If you dont feel like supporting the team anymore, then take your money and leave.. but saying "I paid you to win" after every loss, is old.. and pointless...and really pretty annoying.

I dunno what it is about the money statements that just gets under my skin. I guess I kind of see it as "cheapening" your support of the team. Instead of you shelling out the cash to be there in your Texans gear to cheer for the hometown team.. you make it sound like you are paying for entertainment. Like your support of the Texans is no more important to you than that 8 dollar movie you went and watched last weekend. Just one more thing for you to sit and watch for a few hours to take your mind off work on Monday.

If ever a day comes that I actually sit and think to myself "Well, do I really feel like im getting enough entertainment for the money im spending?".. that is the day I will just stay at home and watch the game on TV.. if I have time of course... after all.. at that point I may have a tough time deciding between the Texans game, or a rerun of the last NASCAR race, or maybe a new episode of This Old House... or whatever movie they are playing on Lifetime to entertain the housewives while the husbands watch football.

OD has only fumbled twice in two seasons and once he was basically unconscious. Somehow I don't think that constitutes butterfingers.

OD has three fumbles this year, which IMO doesn't constitute butterfingers either. He's taken some pretty good shots also. Yeah, I think the OD has a fumbling take, has been blown out of proportion.

Everything you said is true , but it's waited bandwidth with this crew. Richard Smith is doing exactly precisely what he is being told to do. It's everyones fault but the plyers is that it ? Seems to be a reocouring theme with these palyer is all I know.

TC: this is exactly what I'm talking about. Everyone is looking at the totals and asuming that Demmeeeeeco is having nother great season. That isn't true. He bust assignments, over runs plays, and takes false steps on fakes. One of the reasons there is this great gnashing of teeth is a gerneral lack of football knowledge on this board.

Defese sucks because we do not have good enough athletes currenty to get the job done. And the d co-ordintor must compensate. Just not true about Demeeco. He's regressed. B'rair rabbit isn't in that hole Demeeeco.
