Default Grade the line play yesterday

We've spent quite a few draft picks on defensive line over the past few years, and we've spent equally as much time and energy discussing and fretting over the offensive line.

Both seemed to underperform yesterday:

1. The DL generated little pressure on the QB
2. The DL could not sniff out the screen
3. The DL gave up a ton on the ground

1. The OL gave up way too many crucial penalties
2. The OL generated little in the ground game
3. The OL got beat on key plays, leading to sacks and turnovers

So what do you think?

I think the o-line is still the offensive problem this season as it was last season and the season before it. A good o-line can make bad running backs look good, and vice versa (which is when Green is in the game).

I think the d-line is young and still learning, so I'm more willing to excuse them. The o-line is full of veterans who have played 5 or 6+ years in the league (exception being Winston). They should not be making those stupid penalties, and they should know their schemes. It should be clicking, but it isn't.

I said it elsewhere, but I'll say it again here. I saw several hits on Schaub that I did not like. Total blind-sided hits; one he fumbled the ball. I blame that fumble on the line not keeping his guy out of there, but at the same time, IMO, the pass-problems appear when Matt doesn't zing the ball out of the pocket at the snap. That's not to disparage Matt. The line isn't giving him time.

O-line - garbage, It seemed like every time we got a good pass down field, someone on the line was holding or every time we got a good drive going, someone would false start & kill the momentum. Yes folks, the O-line is still a problem.

D-line did alright, considering they bowed their neck when we needed them to. (Mario sack & then Okoye & Weaver/Kalu putting pressure on Lemon to end the series)

On the D-Line, Ronnie Brown has been lighting up teams and getting 200 yds. a game lately. Our D had to account for him, and he didn't get THAT much against us. Yeah, they looked really bad a few times, but I gotta give them some credit for who they were facing. Williams got sack. Okoye got what basically amounts to a sack. I saw fire and emotion on D all day long, and they didn't let the bad plays bring them down. I feel naked making the first grades in a thread like this, but I'm gonna say B+ on the D-line. They did allow some huge holes to open up at times, though.

Salaam had his hands full again. He was just out-manned. I don't know what to say about that, except, "Don't blame him. Get a better LT (somehow)." The rest of the O-line (overall) kind of sucked. I mean, Schaub isn't getting hit too much, but there are no holes to run through, and the only lanes I seem to ever see are on the cut-back side--which is sometimes just luck and not really earned, I think. I've been a fan of Chester Pitts for a long time, but I'm starting to get sick of holding calls bringing back big pass plays. We lose a 30 yard pass or something and take a 10 yd. penalty on top of it. It happens too freaking much. You'd think he was the LT, as much as he gets caught holding on long pass plays. I think the O-line barely passed, and I'm giving them a C-.
