Texans head coach Gary Kubiak spoke to members of the media after Saturday's practice.
Head Coach Gary Kubiak (on if center Steve McKinney, linebacker Danny Clark, and defensive tackle Travis Johnson are going to be the starters) “Yes, they are. Steve (McKinney) has had a heck of a camp, played extremely well at the center position. Then we gave him a chance to go to guard and continued to play that well. I should say he went to guard because of our needs as a football team. But, Steve McKinney’s earned the right to be a starter and he’ll start for us at center on opening day. Danny Clark is a player that has made a bunch of progress with our football team. He kept making plays and making plays. It wasn’t anything that Charlie (Anderson) did, but the kid just kept getting better and better. He’s kind of a vocal guy. He’s a leader by how he plays the game, how he goes about his business. We feel like he’s earned the right to be the starter at SAM. And Travis (Johnson), you know Travis has been a different player from day one. I’ll tell you all exactly like I told him, I said, ‘Travis, you’ve earned the starters role. There’s a new respect around here for you right now and the way you’re going about your business and the way you’re playing. Don’t take it for granted. Let’s keep doing it and keep moving forward.’ But, those three guys will start at those spots.” (on if punter Matt Turk won the job) “Yes, there’s no doubt in our mind he did. Of course, Chad (Stanley) had some problems with his off leg the last 10 days, but before that, we felt that Matt (Turk) was winning that job and he’s been consistent. He’s been doing it every. He’s give us the chance to hit that big ball. If you get stuck in a hole or something, he can hit the big ball. He can get us out of a hole. He’s a good holder and that helped with the equation.” (on if he can say where he is with the other moves that need to be made) “No, I’m not going to say anything. It’s probably going to involve one offensive player and one defensive player. That’s about as far as I can go with you. We have a couple of issues to solve as coaches as we continue to look at our roster and we look at game day, how we would go on game day. We continue to talk to a couple people around the league about a few situations. We’ll get it done by 5:00 p.m.” (on if he’s trying to acquire players or trade players) “I don’t know if we’re trying to do one or the other. I just think we’re listening. We’ve gotten a bunch of calls about some of our players and we made a couple of calls on situations we think could help our football team. That will go down to the wire, I think, with everybody in the league. So, we’ll get back up in the office and see what happens here.”

It sounds like one more move on offense to be made - I wonder who that could be (please cut Cook)? Travis Johnson starting DT - he has earned it. I hope he turns into the monster that we all hope he could be.

I really think that with Dreessen stepping up and playing well, that we can get something for Putzier. I don't know what we're looking at getting but I think Putzier has some value.

I think we can get something for Maddox and/or Babin on the DL.
As far as offense is concerned I think that Putzier and maybe Flanagan could get something for us.

Glad that Travis is going to start, he's earned it IMO.

With all due fairness, I mentioned Babin trade possibility yesterday on another thread.

I titled it due to the fact he said he wasn't sure if we were making a trade when in fact we did moments later. They know what going on but try not to let it out before the details are final, he was putting up a good smoke screen that's all.
