Do I need a game ticket to tailgate?
Do I need to pay parking to walk in to the tailgate area? Here is what I am thinking: me and a buddy will probably end up going to a game this year (we both live in Austin), and I want to get the whole experience. Tail-gate before, game, find a bar afterwards (to hopefully celebrate, rather than drown sorrow). Do tell.

You do not need to pay for parking to walk to the tailgate area. If you want to park in the tailgate lots, you need a parking pass. You can purchase those on ebay, from a broker, or can find them on MBs such as these. I know some just tailgate and don't watch the games, but I never have seen the point of it. There's not a bad seat in Reliant, so you might as well see the game.

While I do plan on both attending the game and tailgating, I can easily imagine a weekend or two where I might want to bring my wife and infant son, to get the tailgate experience. But with an infant, there is a ticking clock, and I don't know if he is ready for the noise and duration of an NFL game. BTW...The Boy is going to be 6'4", 235lb, with a 39" vertical, and run a 4.39 forty. Play FS for the Texans in 2029. That, or be President. I dunno which.

One thing to consider about bringing an infant to tailgating is that it can get extremely smokey out there. When you and your buddy come in to do your "advance scouting" for the family - you'll see what I am talking about...
Also, hope the Texans don't score a bunch of points the day that you have your infant. That little cannon packs a lot of punch!! Enough to scare the crap out of a kid. (literally)

Personally, I would not want to bring an infant to a Texans game. The youngest I'd take em is maybe toddlerhood, and only then if they have a sweet disposition and don't mind sitting, and you don't do much tailgate time. If you take a youngin to a game, try to get lower level seats but at the top of the bowl. That way, you have less stairs to deal with and you don't have to walk as far.

I see people bringing infants to training camp and just cringe. I'm talking like 3 month olds laying in blankets in strollers. 100 degree heat indices for prolonged periods is no place for a little babe or the person caring for it. And that's what it will be Saturday afternoon and into the evening.
The NWS site, which is as reliable as they come, is showing a temp of 91 and heat index of 101 at gametime Saturday - which based on previous preseason home games in August, I can believe. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/forecast/Map...3&AheadDay.y=7 Last edited by aj.; 08-06-2007 at 07:10 PM. |

Thanks for the heads-up on the cannon, everyone. That would not be a good deal. At all. Besides, I doubt the bruiser has the patience for a football game. Plus, there is my aforementioned concern about the general stadium noise, so.... no boy on to the game anytime soon. Of course, the local beer joint is another story altogether. I'll do personal recon on the tail-gating, and decide if/when The Boy makes it out. Maybe I'll get to meet a few of you all. BTW, to check out a pic of my reckless budding free safety, check out the pictures (Categories...Pictures) at my blog. Later, Rick |
