Aside from the programs' success and rivalry, one of the main attractions will undoubtedly be Cy-Fair running back Sam McGuffie. The 5-11, 185-pound junior rushed for 3,121 yards and 43 touchdowns last season and became known around the nation for hurdling a defensive back in the Bobcats' Nov. 3 win over Cypress Creek, which was captured by the cameras of Ch. 55's High School Sports Live. To date, the clip has received over 430,000 hits on YouTube.com.

I was hearing some parents at the Langham Creek/Kingwood playoff baseball game talk about the Fair/Falls game being on TV and one adult said that one of his sons friends recorded McGuffie leaping over a car at a local Sonic on a cell phone and he saw it. Car was parked and McGuffie jumped from over the passenger side door to the driver side door, not over the hood. The guy is a legend over here, lol.
And for those that don't know, he has been offered a scholarship by USC.

The various sporting news show him between 180 and 190 points and 5'11 - 6.0' which isn't bad for someone going into their senior year of high school. Given that a large number of running backs aren't very large, once he gains more muscle and strength in college, he could very well be one of the next great backs. |

Any idea where he's going? Michigan fans seem to think he's theirs to lose.

"I've got a list of my final five," he said. "They are USC, Notre Dame, Florida, Michigan and Texas A&M."
McGuffie says that while all five have promised him early playing time, there are a few other things that make each school on the list stand out to him. USC: "Ken Norton (the Trojans' state of Texas recruiter) is a really cool guy. Also, there's the fact that it's USC. They have had a ton of great running backs throughout the years." Notre Dame: "At Notre Dame I like the tradition and I like the atmosphere and stuff like that. Also, only like a thousand something people go to Notre Dame every year so that's kind of a select group." Florida: "I talk to coach Mullen and coach Meyer and they tell me they could use my speed a lot like they use Percy Harvin." Michigan: "The thing I like most about Michigan is (running backs) coach Fred Jackson. It seems that he actually cares about me and not just about my abilities in football. Also, my dad's side of the family is from up there." Texas A&M: "At A&M I like that they run the ball a lot. Also it's kind of close to home but not too close. I've been there a lot and feel comfortable when I'm there." http://www.click2houston.com/sports/...98/detail.html ****** McGuffie will name his college choice this weekend on local TV. I'm betting on the Aggies. Any takers ? |

Yeah I've heard him say multiple times he will not play in the state of Texas, he says he wants to experience "going away" to college and wants to get out of the state of Texas.

I can't wait for him to try and leap over a LB against Notre Dame and a safety drill him in to the turf so hard he wishes he said in state.

Perhaps, hurdles won't work in college, yet it will be interesting to see how McGuffie's talents will translate into the next level. |

I'm not saying that he's going to bust or anything, it should be fun to see how he does in the Big-10, but I can easily imgaine him trying to hurdle somebody in practice and either a) getting light up bya defender or b) getting a massive ass chewing by the coashes. That's all; whiole that and I can't remember the last time I saw somebody hrudle defenders so much in a series of highlight clips. |

McGuffie was the first high school player I saw to hurdle a defender, and I have been on the high school scene of watching playoff and state championship teams since Thurman Thomas' heyday. I can imagine that care would be exercised because that crap is humiliating. He ran a hurdle on one of my students during the playoffs and I wasn't about to further the pain by mentioning McGuffie or anything other than congrats for a great season. |

I don't doubt his talent, but I'd like to remind you all of the LaVar leap, which you may have seen in "The Waterboy"

McGuffie didn't really impress me much when I went to watch Pearland play them. Whitaker and Proctor from Pearland stole the game. Whitaker's going to play for UT and Proctor's going to play for OU. Don't get me wrong. I think McGuffie is good, but just didn't show it that game.
It was an awesome game!

" McGuffie loved Cal and Tedford, but he also understood certain financial realities. According to Yahoo! Real Estate, the average home for sale in Berkeley this week costs $629,000. The average price in Ann Arbor is $228,500."
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...youtube/2.html ************************************ Who Knew ? Turns out McGuffie chose Michigan over CAL because of cheap RE prices. |
