I am glad some of y'all could read my post, because that has to be the worst written response I have ever done. Of course I am at work and typed that extremely fast.

My apologies for a very poorly written post.

i understood you just fine and couldn't agree more. your sick of the generic 'LOL....texans OL is teh suxxorz' drivel that gets run ad nauseum.

you just want insightful criticism and analysis of our team. it's obvious that no one employed by ESPN even takes the time to watch the Texans much less analyze them. After all.....we passed on Jesus In Cleats himself, Reggie Bush. They had Okoye going to the Redskins yet chastise us for drafting Okoye at #10 and 'neglecting' the drafting of an LT....like we could just snap our fingers and spontaneously synthesize an OT out of thin air at #10..Until we win, nothing will change with those employed by ESPN.

I was always one of the people who said that ESPN really didn't have an axe to grind but after hearing McShay and Kiper contradict their own analysis in order to slam the Texans, it was quite obvious. I can't wait to get NFLN because then I can cut ESPN out of my life altogether...after all, I am not a fan of the Red Sox or Yankees so I think I can make do without them.

I never thought I would pine for the days of CNN/SI.

Well, just to take the opposing side, as great as that Baldinger breakdown was, someone could easliy create a piece of tape showing our offensive line making mistake after mistake. In the Raider game, there's a pretty bad play where the Raiders run a fairly simple stunt and the right side of our line got totally befuddled and almost got DC killed.

The public-at-large made a decision a long time ago about what our problem is and they haven't seen us make any big moves to fix it. We haven't drafted a lineman in the first round. We haven't signed any of the big name OL free agents. Therefore, we still have the problem.

Until we're a good enough team to warrant more attention than it takes to rub two brain cells together, no one's going to look more closely at us. Our problem might not be the line. Our problems might not have been solved by Reggie Bush or Vince Young, but until we start winning, everyone is going to bring those things up as our issues.

As much as it irritates some of us Texan fans.

Yeah, what was that....Eric Winston's 4th game ?

I think you are missing the point. They already dog the line.

Now that we've gotten a few positive comments about our team, we have some (David Carr) Fans almost wanting them to dog the line more ?

I mean, what exactly are you guys complaining about? Positive comments ? Did you like it better when 'analyst' just spewed the same "the Texans problem is the O-line" verbage? And since they didn't do 'anything to fix it' they will suck again ?

I'm just a little confused....

Wait, no I'm not....

I think what Troy said is pretty on tap. there'sa difference between someone who gets paid to talk about the game and someone who has been there and sheds some insight.

Did Troy call the cowboys game this year? I didn't get to watch it b/c of work. It's quite possible he's sitting there watching the game breaking it down in his mind and seeing things Carr and the line didn't. Afterall he did get to play behind one of the best lines ever.

I believe i am starting to come around to the thought that we might see quite a different story this year with our offensive line and production in general. Hopefully we won't have the injury bug hit us as hard this year.

If our defense carries over from what they were acheiving later in the year and Amobi helps with a push up the middle we could be a top ten D. If Schaub shows up and plays well we could suprise a lot of people.

My hope is that we are one of those teams where people say....well if you want to play a defensive game they'll match you. If you want a shoot out they can do that too. They're just such a balanced team.

First, I think you're missing my point. Everyone who praises the Texans and their offseason moves isn't smarter than everyone else. And everyone who doesn't praise the Texans and their offseason moves are dumber than everyone else. But we Texan fans are going to react to the attention as though that were the case.

Someone could put together tape that "proves" that our line really is the problem. I don't agree with that assessment but someone could do that. At this point, no one is bothering to do that because most people agree that our o-line is the problem so they don't have to prove it and because we're not showing them anything to make them re-evaluate their opinions of us.

Secondly, yes, you are confused. You've confused me with the other side. I'm just trying to provide an objective view on how people react to these reports. I'm an ABC and you're confusing me with Caddy. How weird is that?

Granted, this is an argument that Carr Lovers like Caddy SHOULD have been making but I'm not putting it out there for the same reasons.

I just don't think that we're unbiased judges of a particular talking head's abilities... for the reasons I listed in the post about different opinions.

If it's not Schaub then it's not Carr either . I guess then it's a hung jury .

I still think that the offense will be better ... how much we'll see .

I think you're right. I think some of the old Carr fans are hoping that Schaub and the o-line crash and burn.

On the flip side, if I'm totally honest, I don't particularly want DC to go to the Panthers and become the next Brett Favre. If DC does make it to the field, I expect him to be the same DC we had here the past couple of years and I want him to play that way, too. Maybe I'm not a good person for that, but if I'm honest, after everything that's been said and all the words that have gone back and forth, I want him to crash and burn. I didn't think I would feel that way but I do.

Just like I didn't want RB or VY to play well because I knew we'd be catching a bunch of crap in the press and here on the board.

Again. You're missing my point. No one here has said, "because Troy said it, it must be true"...You have some here saying they respect his opinion, but I have not seen one single opinion be swayed because of what TA or anyone else has said...

When someone post a thread about someone in the national media saying something positive, most fans come into the thread and just enjoy reading something positive coming from a national prospective instead of the same old "they are going to be terrible again because they didn't adress the line" crap...All stories like this do is make you feel good...they don't sway opinions...that much is obvious...And they damn sure don't prophesize the future...My point is that you have this small group of 'fans' that come into the thread and say "well he doesn't know what he's talking about" or "what does he know"...basically spewing negativity into what is by all accounts a positive situation....

Like I said, most of those select few are by no coincidence the same group that felt like our previous QB was good enough "if only he had more help"...whatever....you can see it you way, and I'll see it mine...

If you think Troy Aikmans opinion is non-relevant...ok....that's really not the point...the point is that it's positive news about 'our' team, and we have fans that seem to get angry, or disgruntled when they read it...that's awfully strange to me...

Quote:
Someone could put together tape that "proves" that our line really is the problem.
That's really not relevant. YOu can put together tapes of any teams O-line and find a bunch of busted plays. The point is that for the FIRST time people are actually showing that it wasn't ALL on the line as previously thought to be common knowledge. I don't know how you don't see that. If someone accuses you of cheating on your wife with a secretary all the time but a tape surfaces showing you and the secretary just running to Office Depot for some staples and then heading back to the office, would you not feel that was somewhat significant ? or atleast worth a mention ? No it doesn't prove that you're not a cheater, but it atleast gives you some of your credibility back...

These National figures that show positives about the Texans are 'giving us some of our credibility back, or atleast giving the line a little more credibility'...of course if you think it was their fault that David is gone and they never did anything right, ya' probably think they don't deserve that credibility, therefore you get upset, which leads you to come into the thread trying to discount that opinion....

I don't like to categorize people (even though I just did), but that's fairly normal....

Personally I don't care if David goes on to become the greatest QB ever. I'd be happy for him and respect what he'd gone through to do that.

Do I think that'll happen ? No.

I really don't wish any individual player to do bad though...but if I think that player is not good, I'll say it...

But saying, "I don't want so and so to do good now" or "I hope so-and so is great" without any personal ties to that player is just your pride and ego talking...If you think a player is bad, you think he's bad...If you're wrong just say you were wrong and just enjoy good football...

It blows me away that this debate still rages on. I mean is it that crazy a notion to say our problem has been twofold? Could it be that we had a bad quarterback as well as a sub-par offensive line?

No, I don't think our OL is as bad as people make it out to be. But at the same time was David as bad as we make him out to be? Is he good? No. I love the direction we are going, and I personally think everyone will see our OL is not as bad as advertised. Perhaps from the beginning, David and our OL were not going to be a very good pair. Man, I can't wait for the season.

If they do they are not true Texan fans. JMO!! Very few players stay with one team for their entire career. When it's time for them to move on, it's time to cut them loose and let them go.

I wish David well. I will remain friends with his family for many years to come. BUT, when it comes to football, my loyalty lies with the Texans, PERIOD!! I teach my grandkids to never use the word STUPID! BUT, I will use it here. To hope Matt and the OL crash and burn is just plain STUPID!!!

I would have to agree here with Aikman as Schaub being the best Off-Season move, he is one player that I personally have kept an eye on since seeing his performances in pre-season and especially against the Patriots.

Now I have been away from the forums for a while so I'm not sure If you will have seen this or not (I'm guessing yes as it was posted on youtube by a fellow poster) but this little piece that was aired on NFL Network sured up the decision for me, highlighting how much better Schaub looks to Carr already.

Great post! Thanks for the video link I had not seen that. It really helps to see someone break down video, I have not seen much coverage of Schaub. It looks promising!

Totally meaningless trivia for the off-season (pointed out by someone on HT.com). Matt Schaub has 2 more runs over 20 yds on just 24 attempts than Reggie Bush has (0) on 155 rushing attempts.

LOL

PS--probably unsuccessfully prays this doesn't sidetrack the thread into a Bush debate. Fingers crossed, rabbits foot cut off, black cat kicked prior to crossing...
