"This is where I grew up and to be able to play at home with my family is a great opportunity," Adams said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

We asked Adams what it would take for him to join the Texans.

Adams laughed and said, "Momma's home cooking is here hoss. I'd love to be here. I wouldn't have gotten on a plane if I didn't want to come home.
Quote:
"I have a lot left in the tank and we have to prove that this year on the field.(I had a) couple of injuries the last couple of years. I need to get back on the field and get back into the Pro Bowl. I went to Cincinnati, didn't do what I felt that I should have been able to do. It was my fault. I was hurt; needed to have surgery and I really feel like I have a lot to prove. People think that I am old and I don't really want to play. I'm pretty upset about it and I really would like to get on the field and show people what a dominant tackle is in this league, " Adams said.

Kubiak's take on the situation:

Quote:
"When we have a chance to look at some guys that can better our football team we are going to do that. Sam is coming in here. There are no guarantees. He's got a history in this town. He grew up in this town. Mike Sherman and I know him very well from his A and M days. We want to talk to him and see where he is at as a player and as a person. We will make sure things are a fit for our team before we do anything," said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak.

Default Re: Texans showing serious interest in DT Sam Adams

Here are the two tidbits I took out of the article:

Adams met with the Texans Wednesday and will do so again Thursday.

Adams has a number of other options. He met with the Rams last week and will meet soon with the Titans. The Patriots and Broncos have also expressed interest.

If he is meeting again with them today, there must be some interest from both sides. I say let's lock him up now, and don't let him go to the flaming meatballs.

The only worry I have is some of the rhetoric he is using, saying he needs to get back to pro-bowl form. It's good if he truly thinks that he can get back to that level of play, but I think a rational analysis will show that is nearly impossible. I am worried that if he thinks that much of himself, he will ask for more than he is worth, and the Texans will either pass, or we will sign him for more than we should. Time will tell, but I am excited about the potential of having a guy of his calibur, even at his age. He might have 1-2 more good years in him as a run stopper playing 15-20 plays a game to keep him fresh.

There is no point in paying anything other than vet minimum for a DLmen who can't play more than 15-20 plays a game.

I also found this little nugget on fox26.

The Texans are looking for veteran free agents who may fill a specific need. The Texans are also interested in veteran free agent receiver Keenan McCardell.

Well, that is my analysis, but the Texans may feel differently. And besides that, it's more than the number of plays, it's the impact he can have for those plays.

How many plays was Devin Hester involved in each game for the Bears? 6 to 8 maybe? Seems to me he had a pretty big impact.

I would rather have a run stopping beast in there for 15 plays moreso than an average player playing 40 snaps. I'm more interested in the how good more so than the how many.

Hmm... I guess its worth the competition for #2. He did have 70 catches 2 years ago. Who knows if anything is left in the tank.

No doubt, but that was why I specified DLmen. IMO it isn't worth having the guy unless he can play the majority of defensive snaps or about 35-45 plays a game.

Ok, fair enough. That is a valid position. I just happen to disagree with it. I think for a young fella, I would tend to agree. But getting a guy of Adam's calibur both on the field and in the locker room, is worth having even if he doesn't play most snaps.

I wouldn't mind bringing Adams in if it won't cost too much, much like Sam Cowart last offseason. Bring him in to camp, see what he has left, let him help the younger guys along, and see if he makes the cut. I think if we were willing to bring in Zgonina we might as well try to get Adams in camp to see what he can do, if we can get him at a reasonable rate with a low signing bonus. If he doesn't make it, then like Cowart, he's gone.

According to Fox 26 tonight, Adams will not be signing here in Houston. They said things just didn't work out.
