As I recall, I thought Coleman was about 4.3 per year salary cap now, so the 3 per year salary cap (9 mill over 3 years) moving forward would be nice.

Perhaps someone can refresh my memory. As I recall, the Texans quckly signed Walker and Washington right before free agency started and then quckly signed Todd Wade and Robaire Smith. I also recall that they wanted CB Antoine Winfield to visit, but after a reported signing with the Jets, he quickly signed with the Vikings.

My question is what happened to the money 'earmarked' for Winfield?

Have I messed up the timing and the money went to Wade, or Smith?

I thought Coelman's cap number this year was $4.3 until I read the little blurb this morning about him getting a $1.2 roster bonus in March. That hadn't been publicized previously. Based on that, his number this year could actually be $5.5.

Walker was signed on Mar 1
Wade was signed on Mar 2
Smith was signed on Mar 2
That's 30 million in signing bonuses alone right there.

Winfield was signed by the Vikes on Mar 4

If the Texans signed Winfield they probably wouldn't have drafted Robinson.

I think the money 'earmarked' for Winfield was used on WWS and used to re-sign all the EFAs and RFAs.

I think this is great news! He is one of my favorite texans, and now we get to watch him for another 3 years. Hopefully he wont get shafted at the pro bowl this year. He is a valuable part of our defense, and a great leader.

Marcus is a steady player but he's not having a Pro Bowl year.

I know he isnt having a pro bowl year yet. But he did have a great year last year that i think was worty of the pro bowl. If he gets 7 ints again I think he should be there.

As I recall, it was reported that the Texans were aggressively trying to get Winfield to visit. That being the case, I would think that this means they were prepared to pay Winfield in addition to:

a) WWS
b) a #10 draft pick

I wonder if they think they have more cap wiggle room than we can identify?

Agreed. Perhaps they would have pulled the trigger on a trade to move up to get Taylor (and then not resigned Coleman), or another top 7 pick, or perhaps a DL prospect.

It was reported in the Chronicle in late Feb that Aaron Glenn was trying to get him to come down here so you know the Texans wanted him, but he chose not to visit. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Dunta is a fine CB.

From what Casserly has said, Sean Taylor and Kellen Winslow were the two guys they would have moved up to get if the right situation presented itself. Again, I'm kind of glad it worked out the way it did.

The move up cost were prohibative, though. remember the Browns paid a 2nd round choice to flip positions. For the texans to move the 5th or 6th overall, would have cost something crazy like this year's entire 1st day plus 1 high pick next year. Prices for moving in the draft were high this year.

If the texan got winfield it would have been interesting to see the direction of the draft. As of now, the pick pick robinson and move of Colemen seems to have worked.
