"Lets just stick around"????? - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum

I can't believe I heard that. Our game plan coming into the game was to stick around. What kind of gameplan was this. Just sticking around obivously doesn't get it done. We all saw what happens when we let the offense go, but the coaching style was just to stay around instead of take the game early and keep it. I got so mad when I heard that, I couldn't believe Capers would even say someting like that. Just wanted to hear what the minds on the Texans MB thought about this.

That's why we've lost games this year. We are not aggressive on offense until we have our backs to the wall. We have a QB - WR combination as good as any in the league ( check the stats ). The plan today, D. Davis. Our first 6 plays went to D.D. That ain't creative. We're down 21 and they know we have to throw the ball. AND WE STILL PULL IT OFF. Imagine if we'd have thrown to our WR's early in the game. GET THE D@MN BALL TO THE PLAYMAKERS!!

you know until we get a real dominate runner i would say throwing it more than running it should be our offensive strategy...i know it's not a convential way of running things but with andre playing the way he is...and carr being as acurate as he was this game why not...heck let's take a page out of texas tech's offense and just run the spread offense with these guys...no one could keep up...no one

I heard the whole sticking around thing while watching the game, but I don't remember hearing them say it was the gameplan. I thought it was just the commentary's oppinion on the game. The Vikings have a very explosive offense and their defense did their job for most of the game. They are picked to go to and win the super bowl. The Texans are improving...look at it with some positive aspects instead of completely negative

We lost to the Patriots in OT last year and they won the SB. We just lost to the Vikings in OT. Does that mean the Vikings are going to win the SB this year?

Carr had 97 yards at the half. He got 88 on the first drive of the second half. What I fail to understand is why spend your #1 pick 2 years in a row on offensive studs, and then not even start lighting it up until the second half? Davis shouldn't be the center of the offense, he isn't durable enough, and opposing defenses now know that we just love to run the ball to start the game. They were able to run the ball a bit better once they got the defense on it's heels, and Carr was near unstopable once he got into a rhythm with his receivers, even when he kept getting knocked down (I thought the NFL was trying to crack down on hitting the QB late?). He was throwing bullseyes yesterday, and had we opened it up from the get go that could have been a classic shoot-out.

I don't think anyone would disagree that our O-Line is the pits at pass blocking. If we opened it up as much as some of you suggest in the first quarter, we probably would be talking about which of our back-up QB's would be starting next week. You all saw some of Wand's great pass blocking nearly resulting in broken ribs for Carr. While Carr did look great passing the ball yesterday I am for a balanced attack that disguises the pass so he has a chance to get out of the play in one piece. We are not there yet with our O-Line and must adjust accordingly in my opinion.

I agree that a balanced attack is more beneficial, but the longest pass of the first half was 8 yards to AJ that netted 12 yds. ( I'm not counting the 1 yard pass that he turned into 19 yards. ) Throwing the ball 8 yards downfield against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, is not balanced. It is Monday morning quarterbacking, but wouldn't you like to see AJ and the other WR's have a chance to make something happen earlier in the game?

I'll be the first to disagree with Palmers play calling but I don't like having Carr throwing as much as he did in the second half behind our O-Line. It's an accident waiting to happen. I do think Palmer is way to predictable but going to a West Coast offense is not the answer the way I see it. I'd like something in between where we are now and that option.

The point is to air it out early and set up the run, instead of using the run to set up the pass. Using the run first is the conventional method, but we all know the Texans are still lacking in some key areas, talent-wise. Sometimes you just have to adapt. Our best offensive talent is Carr to AJ, so we should use that toi open up other avenues of attack.

The 49ers under Montana used the pass to set up the run. A lot of us have been saying the same thing for a long time. I'm sorry, but until Capers goes you will see the same think over and over again. He wants to win with his defense and control the clock. That's the only think he understands. I think he has an alergic reaction to offense. The great coaches open their eyes to what their players do best and adapt accordingly. They don't make the players adapt to them. I'm sorry, but Capers has shown no ability to adapt to what he has and his defense is just not up to his standards. That makes for a double wammy.

P.S. If you listen to what the players are saying, you will hear positive comments about Palmer and finding good plays for the receivers. This is another reason to think that the problem offensively probably rests with Capers and not Palmer. Palmer simply must call what Capers wants and is not free to do anything else. When we get down, we have no choice so we open up the offense to catch up - and then - its time for the run.

Just an FYI for evaluating the performance of the D against MN--in MN's first three games (Dallas, Philly & Chicago) the Vikings were forced to punt a grand total of 5 times. The Texans forced the Vikings to punt 8 times.
